For those of you who haven't had time to look into this, take a moment and
consider the foolishness exhibited by our State Assembly (43 of its number)
when it passed AB 531 (Soto). This is the bill which requires all service
stations to provide free air and water.

According to Assemblyman Leonard, "AB 531 places an undue burden on the
independent owners of such service stations by forcing them to purchase new
non-fee based equipment and assume all responsibility for the recurring costs
and maintenance."

This is the kind of legislation that illustrates even to the average
disinteresed citizen or occasional voter the silliness of the
command-and-control Democratic approach to regulation of businesses.

Can you believe this came from a San Bernardino County legislator?

43 of its number? you mean to say the bill passed on a 43 vote? (refresh my memory please -- how many in the assembly? -- my 3.5 years of direct exposure to WA sentimentalities and my last 0.25 years in NJ have experiencing extreme displacement.)

There are 80 members. I think it's 46 Democrats, 33 Republicans and one
Green.

But don't quote me on that.

Is the state going to remburse the station owners for the air & water equipment when it is vandalized?

And one other thought. If we motorists have a constitutional right to air and water, what about free gas. That's more important to make a car run then air and water.

Also since my car may run out of air and water in the middle of the night. Will service stations allow after hours access to the air and water.

We may need to amend this bill to include these items!

Wait I think more central planning is needed. Let's get rid of the unseen hand that guides the economy and take up the yoke of state central planning. If air and water is a consitutional right, then transportation is a constitutional right. Since the mode of transportation were I live (socal) is the automoblie then the state should supply me "free of charge" (if you don't count taxes a charge). But that's not all! If the state supplies me a Yugo then my self esteem will suffer. Therefore the state should supply me with the car of my choice. So Gov. Davis where is my Mercedes!!! The state has a surplus it can afford this "right".
