Any way Midway fans; I was at the restoration hanger today June 25 and spent about an hour and a half working on the C-1A. This aircraft is to be pulled out of the hanger in a couple of weeks to have the wings spread for corrosion treatment and have the tail fin installed and a couple of weeks after that it to the paint booth.
I'll be at the restoration hanger on saturday as well to work the C-1A somemore.

San Diegans enjoy six displays from Midway museum

As a surprise for his 7-year-old, Steve Grimaldo brought the towheaded boy smack in the center of where the rockets' red glare used to happen for real.
Here, on the 4-acre deck of the retired warship Midway in perhaps the best seat on San Diego Bay, father and son saw and felt the beautiful thunder of six flashy fireworks shows last night.
"It's so big, and I can't believe it's so close," said Issac Grimaldo, as he swung his legs happily from his red, white and blue deck chair aboard the Midway.
They were among 2,500 people who spent $5 to $10 to set up chairs and blankets on the 1,001-foot-long flight deck of the just-opened Midway Carrier Museum near Harbor Drive.
On this deck, captured Nazi V-2 rockets once were launched and refugees were saved during the fall of Saigon, Vietnam. But the bombs that burst in air last night were the happy kind, fired only in tribute to America's 228th birthday.
Families ate hot dogs and drank cocoa, and kids like Briana Bautista of Bonita raced around the deck with patriotic pinwheels.
For the shipboard party, retiree Violet Hoene of Encinitas came decked out in red suede shoes, Uncle Sam-striped capris and flag earrings. Daughter Lisa McKay sat beside her under a blanket featuring the words to the Pledge of Allegiance. They were thrilled that they got in on this deal, a first-of-its-kind event that sold only limited tickets.
Luckily for spiky haired, 16-year-old Matthew Anderson of East County, there were plenty of food vendors aboard so he could get a funnel cake while he complained, "My mother made me come."
His big brother, Danny, rolled his eyes for he and the rest of the family loved wandering around the deck, looking at the vintage war planes on display.
Like Thomas Jefferson said, it's all about liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Rebecca Darby, who attends Grossmont High School, wore her cowboy hat and brought along a Spanish exchange student for this most American of festivities. Her grandmother, Rebecca Sadler, sat beside her but was lost in her thoughts as she gazed upon the bay, the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and the boats with a faraway look. She said she was recalling the old days and other warships down at the harbor.
"I used to come down here to see the sailors when I was a teenager," Sadler laughed. "We had other kinds of fireworks back then."

Hi Midway Fans :D
The C-1A as of yesterday July 12th was only moved out of the Restoration hanger. The tail fin needs to be installed and the wings need to be unfolded then off to the PAINT BOOTH. as far as the EASY WAY Airlines is concerned
I'll have to ask about that.
The T-2C, at least from a distance, looks in fairley good shape. There is some major construction to do as the wings, tail fin and horizontal stabs are off. I'll get some pics this comming saturday.

City prepares to welcome carrier Reagan

The Navy's newest aircraft carrier, the Ronald Reagan, is coming home to San Diego – for the first time.
The massive warship, the ninth Nimitz-class carrier, will make a jubilant arrival in the bay Friday, docking at 10 a.m. at a North Island Naval Air Station pier after a 57-day journey from Norfolk, Va.
Former first lady Nancy Reagan, in her first public appearance since the June funeral of the former president, is expected to attend, along with stepson Michael Reagan, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, local congressmen and other officials.
"It's going to start (the crew) off with a great feeling," said Capt. James Symonds, commanding officer of the Reagan, which was promised long ago to San Diego as home port.
..........
As for the festivities, they won't stop with the Reagan's arrival.
Friday evening, an invitation-only gala is planned aboard the Midway museum ship at the Navy Pier downtown.
At 10 p.m., a 20-minute fireworks show, visible along the waterfront, will cap the welcoming party.

Who in their right mind would take pics of Pedi-cabs anyway. Maybe Buzz has a few of them he leases out to starving college students to make some summer cash showing tourists in Manchester Michigan around.
I have seen Mr. Persell wip out that Digital Camera snap a pic and re-pocket the darn thing faster than you can say cheeze.
Events at NAS North Island are moving along faster every day as Ravishing Ronald CVN-76 approaches Sun Diego. There are rumors going around about the Bridge being shut down for brief periods while some Big Whig in his limo crosses over to Coronado. Need less to say traffic will be a night mare all day.

It appears President Bush is on the guest list. :)
Presidential Welcome Set For USS Reagan
POSTED: 10:26 pm PDT July 19, 2004
UPDATED: 3:42 pm PDT July 20, 2004
CORONADO, Calif. -- The Navy's newest aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, will get a welcome fit for a president when it arrives at its new home port this week.
About 10,000 people are expected to pack grandstands erected for the occasion along the pier Friday morning. That night, the skies over the ship explode with red, white and blue fireworks and President Reagan's own voice will echo from loudspeakers across San Diego Bay.
NBC 7/39 and NBCSandiego.com will cover the arrival of the USS Reagan beginning at 10 a.m. Special coverage include the official welcome ceremony and is expected to conclude at about 12:30 p.m.
Nancy Reagan is expected to make her first public appearance since her husband's death last month. A helicopter will ferry her out to the carrier shortly before it arrives and she will take part in a pierside ceremony on the ship.
The USS Reagan set sail from Norfolk, Va., with 3,000 crew members on May 27, making its lengthy journey around the tip of South America. The ship was the first carrier to be named for a living president. Naval officials said that with its two nuclear reactors, it can travel faster than 34 mph and operate for 20 years without refueling.
Michael Reagan, the president's son, is scheduled to attend Friday's pierside ceremony, along with actor Tom Selleck and a half-dozen congressmen. Three-star Vice Adm. Michael Malone, commander of the Naval Air Forces, will be the highest-ranking Navy representative.
Friday evening, Selleck will be master of ceremonies at a fund-raising dinner and dance on the deck of the USS Midway, a decommissioned carrier that has been converted into a museum across the bay. Proceeds from the $200-a-plate dinner will pay for improvements on the USS Reagan, such as Hollywood movie posters in the crew's mess.
At the end of the evening, up to 2,500 people will gather on the deck of the Midway to watch the fireworks, which will be synchronized to a soundtrack that includes clips of President Reagan uttering his most memorable lines.
