For those that are interested, Midway is a qualified hit. Yesterday (Fathers Day) we entertained over 5000 visitors. Our numbers appear to be climbing. I have a few recommendations for ya.
When you visit the ship, get there early. Lines start forming by 0930. My recommendation is head for the Bridge/Pri-Fly tours first. Then double back for the audio tour. Once the museum opens, lines can be quite lengthy for the Island tours. The Museum staff are working diligently to resolve these issues but an understanding of how things happen will help ensure a more enjoyable tour.
Attire. Remember, this is a Retired warship. Sneekers or shoes with rubber soles are Highly recommended. For the kids, we recommend that they NOT wear the shoes with the pop out skates. We see kids like this all the time. When they pop out there skates, we politly have them go back to walking mode. Non Skid is a heck of alot more painful than regular pavement.
For the wives. Shorts or comfortable slacks. Again several steep ladders and stairwells. Skirts are not practical for obvious reasons. Be advised that you will do alot of walking. Remember this when you plan your schedule.
If you will need handicap access, ask one of the Volunteers for asistance. We will arrange for priority access to the Ticket windows, then Basket access to the ship. AS soon as you get aboard the ship, Find anyone in a red hat and ask them for information about elevator runs from Hanger Deck to Flight Deck. If they dont have the info, they will find it for you.
Based upon recommendations from folks like EAGLE03's C.O., we have diaper changing stations in the Ladies rest room. The fantail cafe now has a PB&J item on their menu. The cost is $3.50
Hot Dog combos are availiable on the Flight Deck. Cost is $5.00 and comes with chips. SOft Drink stations are availiable all over the ship COst of a Bev is $2.00 and comes in a 16 oz bottle.
Flight sims have two price structures. $10.00 for 30 mins on the HOTAS models and $40.00 an Hour for the Cock pit mock ups with Big screen viewing.
Currently, we are allowing folks to bring their own bottled water aboard. If this will continue is not known. Bottles need to be factory sealed/un opened.
Any other Q's?
