:fbomb: This is for the San Diego news media who seemed to divote more coverage of what was wrong with the USS Midway opening day and those idiot protestors than to what the day meant for so many of us who served aboard her.
Not everything was going to be perfect the first time out and I don't think any of our shipmates would raise to much of a fuss with the initial quirks but the media played them out like a stupid harp.
And those protestors and their idiot signs. Perhaps they'd change their tune if a few angry Vietnamese who were saved by the Midway in 1975 showed up to kick their ass. But hey, they have the right to be idiots don't they?
One more sore spot about San Diego. Since the city has declared war against the Boy Scouts because they won't allow f*gs in their ranks will the city also bring their B.S. to our decks? We as Midway veterans should be showing solidarity with the BSA to tell the city of San Diego to keep their gay loving politics off our steel and their gay loving hands off the boy scouts.

Dan,
I did not see much in the way of negative media coverage and I live in San Diego. What was mentioned was all legitimate news in the context with which it was presented. Yes, we had some Hiccups, Yes the San Diego Peace Coalition showed up to protest and yes, the protesters got some coverage.
I can say this tho. None of the electroni media moved over to the protest. In the San Diego Union-Tribune , the protesters got a couple of lines. In fact, it was the least covered protest in the last 3 months.
Boys scout and The Museum are two different entities. The Midway Museum is a private foundation, sitting on a pier leased from the port district. The port received the pier with the express understanding that it would be made availiable to the Midway I don't have all the facts surrounding the deal but I suspect that we wont have to worry about the ACLU. And Please note it was in fact the ACLU that forced the cities hand regarding the Boy Scouts.
Hope this clears up any misconceptions

Hi Midway Fans :)
ON opening day, I watched with great interest what San Diego media activities said about the Midway opening. I don't recall even one bad comment
and one local tv station labeled the Midway Museum as " The Best New Thing in San Diego IN Decades". I Spent all day on friday June 11 th onboard and everyone I talked to seemed generally impressed with what the volunteers created.
If your not having fun; your not doing it right!!
The BSA have no room to bitch, they were renting their spaces in Balboa Park for $1 dollar per year when others paid many thousands per year .
