View Full Version : It's never too hot to be cool

This being my first summer in Sacramento, I am a little shocky about what this heat does to people.

Having grown up at the beach, this heat is offensive, but I find that the way some people choose to contend with it even more so.

To the pervert who sits on the Capitol lawn (South side) at lunch time in the cheesy Arkansas folding chair - PUT YOUR FRIGGING SHIRT ON!!!!!!! I'm am going to bet that there is no one in this town that needs or wants to see that - especially at lunch time - especially since you need a bra more than I do.

Another thing gents, short sleeves on a dress shirt are so wrong - unless you happen to be a fast food manager. Always wear long sleeve dress shirts. If you need to, roll up the sleeves a little. This will cool you off, and (I'm going to speak for others here) women like that look a lot.

White pants - bad (unless you're Will Smith)
White shoes - also bad

Also, if you have to be somewhere and you need to walk, leave a few minutes earlier than usual so that you don't have to rush, and drink lots of water. This will keep you from having pit stains when you get to where you're going.

PrincessB,

I am so glad I don't have to live in Sacramento. I HATE hot weather, I HATE men without shirts (especially the hairy armpit thing), I HATE short sleeve dress shirts and I HATE white shoes.

**Note to everyone -- white tennis shoes are ok!

Ok, HELLO some people. If you work in a FREEZING cold air conditioned office you don't need to wear crop tops or sleeveless tops to show off your Tolstoian dimply arms!

And you white-shoe-wearers, please remember that once fall comes and you feel the need to wear black tights, change your shoes, black would be a plus.

A nice summer outfit -- light colored linen suit with light brown sandals. It keeps you cool and you look cool too.

PrincessB, I'm not sure but since I have never really been subjected to heat, maybe it alters the thinking part of the brain and people are working only on instinct. Sort of like a dog in heat, a janpanese beetle flying into the window, a man with an erection...

Gotta agree with the goDESS. Heat does destroy vital brain cells. I recently made a painful and hopefully short-lived move from beautiful Ventura CA (and my island-view apratment) to Phoenix AZ, a city which is still burning to ash with little hope of rising. I'm not sure, but I think the city requires one to where shorts and sleeveless tops, regardless of age, sex, or fitness. Why in the world would anyone allow their mate to walk out in public with black sock, sock garters, shorts and hirachis? Or pink spandex shorts, knee-high supp-hose and Nikes? Ye god(es)s! And this is at work! Trust me, you do not want to see an average Finance department without lots of clothing. I saw my first suit in six months just the other day, and it looked so alien. As a final example of brain damage, the same people (college grads, every last one) come to work every day in shorts and tee-shirts, and spend the day shivering and bitching about the a/c. I'm talking every day. Can I come home now?

One group of men that are allowed to wear short sleeve dress shirts is aerospace workers. Engineers could also.

If you are from the South, are sersucker suits stylish?

Only if you are selling ice cream.

Princess b-- Another exception to the rule re: no short sleeve dress shirts is for men over 80. Those old guys need to stay cool after all.
On a side note, what do you think about women who wear nylons with sandals, i.e. a suit with sandals so she throws on nylons too? It's one of my pet peeves but other people have told me it is okay.

When I wear sandals with a suit, it is only with a pants suit. I firmly believe that if you are going to wear a skirt to work, casual or not, you should always wear nylons or tights.

Taking that into consideration, I think it is okay to wear nylons with sandals, as long as the perpetrator follows a few guidelines. I've seen it done extremely stylishly - goDESS does it perfectly.

One must never wear tights with sandals, only very sheer nylons. The other thing that must be avoided AT ALL TIMES, regardless of what type of shoes one is wearing, is that orangy nude color. TOTALLY WRONG. Also, make sure you choose sandal toe, not reinforced toe - they make sandal toe nylons for a reason I suppose.

Xena,

About nylons with sandals with suits -- YES! It is rather inappropriate for a woman to go nylonless in a business situation. After all, we're at work to work, not to be oggled.

Casual Friday is a bit different, but nylons should always be considered.

About choosing nylons -- at a Nordstrom, there is a huge variety of colors from which to choose. If you take the time, you will be able to find a nylon that matches very closely to your skin color. Never wear a nylon that makes your legs the color you wish they were.

Oh, yes, always have a pedicure with dark colored toes when you wear sandals. It breaks up the monotony of skin color and gives you something to smile about!

Another plus to nylons -- skip the panties and avoid VERY UNSIGHTLY panty lines!

One piece of advice I'm not sure about is if you should wear nylons with your warrior outfit. I'm tending to think no, they may run when they come in contact with swords and stuff.

godess-- Good point. I don't think armor & kicking ass go with anything as delicate as nylons.
