The 'Reputation System' is vaguely reminiscent of the old 'User Ratings'.
It's based on a scale of -999 to 3000. Within that range there is a scale of 15 text ratings that correspond to a certain umber of points. By default, one starts with 10 reputation points.
One can assign reputation points to a user on any post they make, by using the little 'scale' (?) icon under their avatar. One can also make comments.
You should be able to see comments and ratings made on you, if any, on the first page of your user control panel. You can also see if someone gave you positive or negative reputation here (green = positive) and a link to the post that you received the rating on.
If you hold the mouse over the little green, gray, or red (?) square(s) under one's avatar, you can see the text rating one has.
If you click your own scale, you should also be able to see your total reputation points.
The number of points each person can assign to another is based on a number of factors:
* whether they are an administrator or not
* how many days they've been registered
* how many posts they have
* how much reputation they have
* one must have 100 posts before his reputation hits count on others
* one must have a reputation of 100 before his reputation hits count on others
Also:
* you can give only 6 reputation clicks over each 24 hour period (administrators are exempt from this limit)
* you must rate 12 users before you can hit the same person again (administrators are exempt from this limit)
This system changes over time, based on whim.
