Folks, this is a rhetorical question.

I am a volunteer on the ship. The only spaces I have not been to is Engineering. I have standing offers, but let's face it, I am an Airdale. It is contra indicated. Airdales have no Biz in Snipe country and we 'Dales check snipes *Fresh Air* chits, when they stray above the O2 level (In their Cover-All's), Further more, I feel all weird when drifting into 'Shoe land (Surface Pukes! Just Kidding)

Having said all that, I swear before the Big *Flight Deck Officer* in the sky, I will work my ARSE off and get some 'shoe and 'snipe pics into the gallery.

Still, the question remains, "What do you wanna see, the most?"

Ok,

If possible, anything and everything related to the arresting gear on the 02 level before they lock it off. My wife was hoping to be able to see all of the spaces that I worked and lived in when we got to SD but it seems that those will not be available for tours once the ship opens.

I find it kind of unusual that with all of the things that could be shown on the 02 that everything is going to be locked off from the public. Almost everything on the 02, cats, gear, berthings, repair lockers, etc, give an idea as to what the ships purpose was and how it functioned.

I know it's frustrating not having lots of these spaces open when Midway opens to the public in June. In order to do all this, three things are missing: time, money and bodies.
Time: The museum must open early-June to meet all the commitments that have been made over the past year. We know that there will be lots of things incomplete but the main priority is to get the gates open.
Money: Right now, there is none. Contractors can be hired to do just about anything but none of them work for free. Once the turnstiles start turning and the $$$ starts coming in, lots more will happen.
Bodies: I thought that people wanting to volunteer would be lining up at the gate once the ship was parked at Navy Pier. That didn't exactly happen. We have lots of people already but more are needed with different skills. There aren't many people that say (for example) "I'll be here one day a week, every week, with ten of my friends and we'll get the cat gear restored."
So, back to the original problems, there's lots involved with determining what spaces will be open on opening day. I think when people see what's ready to go, they will be pleased with what they see. Of course, there's always more to see on a ship this size. Come back next year and you'll see more spaces, more exhibits, more aircraft.
Just like Bill and a few others on this forum, I am a volunteer. I’ve worked with the Aircraft Restoration guys about a year, then a few months with the Pier Patrol and now as a Docent (tour guide). For a year and a half, I have been asking about stuff and I’m a bit upset about some spaces that won’t be open and things you can’t see: CIC is gutted and needs lots of work, we probably won’t see a fire room right away, Ready Rooms, wardrooms, galleys, officer’s staterooms. Some artifacts I’d like to see: get some 5”, 3”, 40mm or CIWS gun mounts and some WWII planes. All of these are missing but I’m sure that they will eventually be there.
Just remember your Navy days: “Hurry up and wait.” So, hurry up and volunteer (if you’re within a hundred miles of San Diego), hurry up and see the ship once it opens, hurry up and send money (tax deductible), and then wait for more things to happen.
See you all on board. Bob

Dude,

YA must be praying to the "Big AB" in the ky, eating all your veggies and generally living a clean life!

Because...I got Pics of #3 AG space before I personally locked it down. They will be appearing on this sight soon. remember. Buzz does this sight as a labor of love. He does not make a dime and he has a real life to boot! CHuckle. I could send Buzz 30-40 pics from every visit. That would just overwhelm him, so I send pics a few at a time. I am sure he would disagree (LOL) but I do try. If ya go to my current albums, you will find Pics of V-2 Berthing)

I know the AG space is on the *wish List* but for reasons explainde by Bob, this will happen later, down the road.

Hope this helps
Bill

Just out of curiosity, did you get any pics of 3-Alpha or the deck in the gear-lounge? There was a custom tile job done on the deck at the piston end of the 3-Alpha gear engine that I was hoping to still be intact.

:Z: Just reminiscing and dreaming of the old days...

Baricade, Don't know enough about Arresting gear to explain what I shot. When the pics appear, then let me know what they are and If I can help by finding other spaces.

I was on the last topside AG crew , and I have alot of pix. I also have alot of flight ops footage during dessert Storm. I could make them into mpegs for all to see. I also have footage of the last time the Midway docked in PI during the evacuation.
