View Full Version : Retirement...what rank would you be now?
I could have retired on June 4, 2004. I am guessing that I would have been (or more to the point... should have been) an ADCS.
What do you guys, that got out also, think you would be?

I had eight in when I got out and would have been elgible for Chief in one more year. I had a NJP from NATTC Memphis that probably would have screwed me for several cycles. I'm guessing I would have made AQCS, but the AQ rate is gone, so make that ATCS.

OMG! Thats pretty easy.
I was a *hard working* sailor but with a low thresh hold for *B.S.* I would probably be a coffee drinkin, cigarette smokin E-6. I'd be one of those guys down in the coop's talkin about what it was like "Back in the day*, back when we could smoke on the Mess decks while *Rolling the bones* or in the coops while shooting dice on a blanket.
I worked hard, and I played hard. I was not real concerned about kissing any ass, not then, not now.
So, in a brutal self assesment, I speak the truth. Besides, I would have been retired for many years...by now.
Now my brother...He was E-5 in 4! He was a *Flying Rifle* at Millington, he performed for the President. He was, in a word, a *Butt Smoocher!*(Of the Highest order). He was, I am told, a brillent Avionics Tech. (Damn Twidgets!).
I take great solice in saying "Hey Rich! Real world Commitments, Midway Magic etc. How ya like me now?" LOL He is a good kid and I love him like a brother. Wait! He is a brother. LOL

I would have retired march of 2002 and I am sure have been an AMSCS.
I was in VF151 1982 - 1984. Often wonder 2 things why I ever transfered to VF-24 USS Kitty Hawk and more importantly why I ever got out of the Navy at all.

I retired as a LT which is amazing if you would have known me 24 years ago. My enlisted personnel could not get away with much as I had probably already tried it. It feels good to be retired. :D
Given what I know of the Navy now,policies/rules and the way I was "raised"in the Navy  More than likely I'd be busting rocks in Leavenworth  Just kidding :p
Probably AMCS I would have retired this year on or about June 23 for my 20yrs.
I would have been eligible in 1992 but I don't think I could have spent 20 years in the Navy due to my low theshold for B.S. It was hard enough to do 4 years. Maybe if I could have changed rates from AO to something more useful. Lately I have been thinking that maybe I should have stayed in. But that's real easy to say now. I just remember what I thought when they asked me to re-up, f***you!

I don't think I would have had any rank as I was enlisted and had to work for a living ---but my thoughts are if I had stayed in more than likely I would have became Rated a chief if I was willing to change rates as they had frozen my rate(I was quoted 3 times) so I ended up being the senior third class in my squadron -doing all the work of the second and first class P.O. at $240 per mo.-to my knowledge they never made a second class in my rate during that time at least I never saw one.

I joined in june 1972 and was able to last till aug 1985. I was an EN1 when I got out. I am sure I would have stayed in for 20 had it not been for my last tour of duty, that of recruiting.
Any sailor that has had the ill-gotten fate of recruiting duty forced upon them can relate to the sudden end of my carreer.

I did retire in February 1990 as an AD1 (didn't kiss enough ass to make chief)and now, I still work for the Navy as a contractor overhauling Jet Aircraft at North Island. and on top of that I also volunteer at the Midway Aircraft Restoration Hanger
If YOUR not having fun; YOU'RE not doing it right!!!!!!!

Nipon, I hate to sound like an ass but, here goes.....Rating such as Boatswain, Aviation machinists mate, etc.... Rank such as E-1, E-2... look it up. It was fundamental knowledge in Basic Training.

As I roll up on 19 years of service, I'd have to say I was headed squarely for an E-6 (AZ1) retirement. I also have a low tolerance for butt-kissing. Now that I've got my commission, I have to serve 10 years as an "O" (or, some may say, a "zero"...hehehe) before I can retire, so I will be out in 8 more years, as a Captain (not a NAVY Captain...*sigh*...an Air Force Captain, aka Lt). That would be O-3E over...27? Not too shabby for a kid who never graduated from H.S. (and skipped his first GED to go on liberty)!
In a way, not really being eligible for the higher ranks is a relief. If I do 11 years from now, that would put me as being elegible for retirement as a Major (O-4) with 30 years service. Major is pretty much a shoo-in (90% advancement?). The point being, I still don't have to kiss ass, I just have to tell the brutal truth...politely.

I feel very confident if I'd stayed I could at least have been a Chief, after I got out in 99 I made board, but a lot of billets opened up for about 4 years and now they are tight again, so I'd be forsure a AO1(AW) best O-3E, but hey I'm out and I'm very happy to be out :!!!: I couldn't deal with the open butt:smooch:ing that was required to make friends and the back stabbing amongst the ranks was unreal, it sucked being a First Class IMO :!!!:
