You forgot the monkey meat and a trail of san miguel bottles leading you back to the main gate.
And usually that failed.
LOL..... It's really hard to see the trail of beer bottles when you are still shitfaced from the night before. But, I tried.
Catman
The bar just before you got to the Taco place on Gordon Street was our (VA-115) muster bar. One of our mech chiefs was a part owner. Those tacos were great though! :D I'd usually start at the taco place/muster bar and end there. Everything inbetween is somewhat of a blur. ;)

In the 60s they didn't have muster bars as far as I remember ,you just staggered from bar to bar to see if you could find anyone you knew ,but after awhile you didn't give a shit if you ran into anyone or not you just kept drinking Beer..

I beg to differ but V-2 division had a muster bar in PI from 62-65. Ours was the Miami Club, upstairs, and we took great pride on throwing out anyone who didn't belong. We usually let anyone from the Air Dept/Air Wing in but never any deck apes or snipes. And never, ever, ever, ever, anyone from a different ship. We kept the Shore Patrol busy. But sometimes we hit the first bar out of the gate and didn't make it any further......Trigger

I said as far as I "remembered" but then it was long long ago -just for my own information did you guy's have an actual board out side where you signed your names ,I just don't remember that sort of thing at all-if it was happening the guy's I ran around with sure didn't use it we went into any bar we felt like ,and most of the time we couldn't see well enough to read or write, now don't get me wrong we didn't hang out in the bars on the left side of the road near the "y" I think you will remember why, although I had to stand shore patrol up that way ,not very pleasant!

Nah, we didn't have a sign in board, that is just where we all ended up eventually. Usually I stopped at the first bar on the left after crossing the bridge, the had San Magoos with ICE in them! Talk about going down smooth! Then sometimes we took a Jeepney to one of the houses to get some "relief" but sooner or later we ended up at the Miami Club.
I too stood shore patrol on the wrong side of the "Y". On night we were walking down the sidewalk (we NEVER went in any of those bars) when there was a sound of breaking glass behind us. When we turned around we saw that someone had thrown this guy through the window. Now this guy was about 6' 3" and around 250# and someone had thrown HIM through a window. The Chief I was with asked if I wanted to go in there and arrest the thrower, then he laughed and we walked on. Called for the meat wagon when we turned the corner......
Trigger (we don't need no stinking war, we'll try to kill each other)
When I was there we actually had a board outside the bar to fill in where you'd be on a particular day. Quite useful really. Gave your Buds a starting place to start looking for you if you owed them money or they wanted to borrow money.

Across Shit River, hang a right, right-hand side...Top Gun? Small, but nice...
Just before it, on the left-hand side...T's Tavern? REALLY small!
After Shit River, first (big) bar on the left was Rock Trax, wasn't it? Then Miami (Coulda sworn that was "Florida"...?)?
And my personal favorite, go up Magsaysay (sp?), past Mariposa's on your left (GAWD! GREAT lumpia and banana ketchup with hot sauce!) right-hand side - "Apple". Go down the yusta-be-white tunnel (really!), AC-DC jams, nice girls...
(All this is 86-88 timeframe)
Ahhhhh... the memories....
Welcome to Mangos (http://www.mangossubic.com/)

Oh yeah, Wasn't that place down the tunnel called Apple Rock? If so, that was the very first bar I went into on my very first time to the P.I. back in 87'. Matter of fact, that was the bar I purchased my first bar fine in. At the time I was TAD to ships laundry.....what a racket man! I was hanging out with guys who'd been to the Philippines before which the Command Master Chief always highly recommended new guys do. Most the guys TAD to ship's laundry were airwing guys and my friend was from 152 I believe. He showed me the ropes alright, and before I knew it, I was throwing the bone on some hottie back at her apartment until 6am the next morning. Yeah, me and Apple Rock go back some time ago.
Yup, those were the days! I imagine we must have been there at the same time at least once!

I would say from my past experience that going across the turd pond is the most important part of survival, next is not being rolled and next is not getting a taste of a butterfly knife, and next is not receiving any type of diseases or food poison.
All the other stuff is a walk in the park, just remember knocking on the roof of a Jeepney to stop and combs being knocked on the glass for money exchange, Peso shows..... and no Man to Man dancing!!!!
I had fun in the PI!

Yeah but what about sierra club, that joint was a live wire, you could hear them jamming all the way down both sides of the street. I went in several times but even with the fleet out it was way loud!!!
How about the Brown Fox, a dive, but great meeting place the chucky Vee was inport I was Tad to JEST for school and that bar smoked checked itself. I mean it burned and smoked for 2 days and the base had to help put out the fire. As you may remember the Fire Department was across the way. What a scam!
The Fox burned down in July 1988 because we had just gotten off Pac. I tell you a place that served some great pizza was chatter box they had it going on.

Ah, I have to embarrass myself now...I really, no kidding, went in there for a massage. And that's it! That tiny lady kicked my ass! Popped joints I didn't even know I had!
I'm glad I didn't know anything important, because I surely would have told her...She really taught me the meaning of "Hurts so good". But when I walked out of there, I was sooooo loose, it was all I could do to stay upright!
I used to have this Bullfrog shirt, and I wore it while back in the states, people really got a kick out of it, I said they would get a kick out of the frog as well, I remember being dragged down Magsaysay on the way to the boat, I was told I needed to walk across the main gate thresshole or I'd be in a jam, so I some how figured it out and made it too the ship and the next day was a real pain in the ass, I was hung over bad! I really thought I could die!!

Hey, there was this guy that took me to the Teddy Bear for my first time. We walked out the gate, went to get some taco's at Via's, got a couple of beers at the Runway and then caught a jeepney to the Barrio. We went straight to the Teddy Bear. Hmmmmmm, who could that possibly have been???? LMAO!!!!! How the hell are you Neil?????
