No joke. Our ship's FDO, Warrent, is out on deck every time we leave San Diego saluting the Midway as we float by. I started joining him on our last inport and now his senior enlisted ABH1 joins us as well.

Last time out this officer came up and asked the warrent if there was any special reason why he would do this, to which warrent replied. "Unless you served on that ship a few tours, you'll never understand. My navy career started with Midway and had it not been for my shipmates there I probably would have ended up a long haired fool without much of a life to speak of. I am paying her due respect."

Yes, the Navy got its money out of Midway... . Seems like we were always going about 30 knots between Japan and Gonzo.

Foehammer to you and your FDO thanks!I rode her from 84~87 vaw 115.
My Grand father a wwII Navy vet just went aboard for this last fathers day with my Aunt.
She said he was super amped about walking the same flight deck as I had for 3 years.
Great job on the site by the way! just signed up today.

I know what you mean foehammer. I spent my last year in the Navy on the Coral Sea. Compared to Midway it was a real clown show.
