My first night on Bressler would not be complete without talking some football. It looks as if Dallas is learning from last years mistakes, specifically, Michael Irvin. Or as real fans know him...Michael Irving. I could not imagine belonging to a fantasy football team and actually picking up this aging fossil who prefers crying to refs rather than playing ball. Supposedly is up for a possible trade before training camp begins. Let's offer some suggestions. How about Michael for Joe Aska. What about that once proud Dallas receiver, Alvin Harper. I think Dallas' best bet is to try and convince Henry Ellard to play one more year. That's all for now, let me have it Jackal.

Hola Bud,

I'm glad that you found your way into our forum. Nice debut!!

Yes, Michael isn't what he used to be but the Cowboys still are a contender.

By the way, if I'm not mistaken aren't you a Detroit Lions fan?

Boy, I had a hard time typing that without laughing...

Speaking of which what's up with Barry Sanders? He's only 1,600 yards from passing Walter Payton as the all-time rushing leader and he's threatening to retire.

Actually, his rationale for retiring is weak. Apparently, he refuses to talk with anyone from the organization and now his daddy his speaking for him. That's right, Barry's daddy has stated that coach Ross should change the offense to utilize Sanders more.

Hum, didn't Sanders run for 2,000 yards last year.

Whatever.

Strange I've never remember Emmitt complain about changing Dallas' offense even though its been mediocre the past two years. I guess when you have three rings its easier to be a team player...

The Jackal has spoken!

It looks as if I struck a nerve, how dare I poke fun at a team that stands so proud. Speaking of that TEAM player, Mr. Emmitt Smith, I would have to agree that he is the epitome of team play, always thinking of the whole rather than himself. He's one of those players that would never sit out pre-season or regular season games to re-negotiate a contract dispute, would he? That sort of thing is only done by players with no heart for the game. What an excellent role model he is. I feel like yanking off my helmet and pounding my chest because I was the one who got the touchdown, not the team, or my offensive line! Let's remember that Barry got his yards with little or no offensive line. I think they do need to utilize his talents more. Barry Sanders as quarterback! Think of the possibilities, "The Lions are on their own 1 yard line, Barry steps back looking for Moore, tucks the ball down and runs for 99 yards, TOUCHDOWN!!! What a genius Bobby Ross is!"

Finally, though the media and the Cowboys organization have inappropriately deemed themselves, "America's Team" the will always be known as "America's Bandwagon." Why is it again that you like them so much? You grew up in Texas right? Relatives? Or was there no team where you came from? Please explain this one. And explain how your little prodigy also likes this team of drug addicts yet follows the Jazz? It's a darn shame to watch the youth of today.

Who cares if I'm from Texas?

As America's team, Da' Boys belong to fans all across the nation.

Nice recall of the 1994 season. Yes, Emmitt did hold out. In fact the Cowboys went 0-2 without.

But once Emmitt came back the Cowboys reeled off 12 out of 14 on their way to back to back titles. He also still led the league in rushing.

Come to think of it. Maybe they were all just bored with the lack of competition in the NFL at the time and just wanted to spot the other teams a few games.

That was also the year emmitt played with a slightly separated shoulder against the Giants in the last game of the regular season. Of course emmitt led the Cowboys to the victory, another divisional title and momentum for their title run.

Barry's a great back but emmitt has the heart of a champion.

Scoreboard!

Hey I think the Super Bowl championship was enough for Cowboys fans to forget all about Emmitt's desire for a raise.

But enough about this trip down memory lane. The Cowboys are barely above mediocre and the Lions -- well without Barry they may not win more than 4 games.

America's bandwagon? If I were you I'd jump on board. Coach Chan Gailey will have the Cowboys back on top in the next few years...

I'm still curious as to where this love for the Cowboys came from. Maybe you are the originator of "The Bandwagon." I know I can go round and round about the infamous Cowboys and talk till I'm blue in the face. The last thing I want to hear AGAIN is how you sat through their 1 and 15 season and stuck by them. The true Cowboy fan! I admire such moxy. Y'know, I've never said that I was a 'Lions' fan, I am a Barry Sander's fan. As a matter of fact, this year I shall reveal my true team. Whichever team the Cowboys are playing that week, are now my favorite team. Go skins, go Eagles, go Cards, Go Niners (whoa...wait a minute). Not the Niners, after all, they are NOCAL! Every team but them. I am the true bandwagon this year. The bandwagon against DA BOYS! Hop on board everyone. Let's go for a ride! "Are you ready for some football!"

Barry On Defense..."Packers midfield, Favre drops back, looking for Freeman, starts to run toward the sidelines, gets tripped up and throws the ball as he's falling on his knees. Barry runs in front of Freeman to intercept the pass and runs 65 yards to another touchdown!" Bobby Ross for coach of the year!

Okay you guys, I admit I am a girl, so you probably don't care what I have to say about football, but I can't help it, I must post this....
WHO cares about the Lame Detroit Lions or the Dallas Cowboys??? The ONLY team that matters is the 49ers! Don't you agree? Does anyone agree? I recently moved up to Sacto from the Bay Area but I assumed you all would be Niner fans too. And I would hate to be disappointed.

Xena - You underestimate us men. I can't speak for Jackal but I believe he would agree with me on this, women who like football rule! Yeah, maybe you have some faults, you live in Nocal, you have a fondness for throwing batteries, and you like to watch your Niners fall even further into mediocrity. I look forward to your takes.

Even though I'm a Cowboys fan and root for the the Seahawks I too look forward to your Niner takes.

My, you boys are friendly. I like it. I will happily participate in this NFL smack as the token 49er fan, although I really can't believe there aren't any others. I may have to tell my fellow 49er fans to join me....I hate being the sole voice of reason. http://bressler.org/ubb/smile.gif

Xena,

I'm hoping that fans of a variety of teams will participate.

It' all about an exchange of smack.
Whether you're a fan of America's team like myself or you root for the Redskins, Jets or Patriots -- the more the merrier!

Rest assured, once August roles around the 49er fans such as our very own Caleb will be out in full force.

I also anticipate some Raider and Broncos fans.

I am currently searching AOL chat rooms to inform football fans about Bressler.org

Lets all work together to get the word out and make this forum a hot spot for NFL fans during the season!

Women who have solid football takes rule, male chauvinist pigs suck

Good night now...

Not to diss my women friends here on the chat but football is more than just liking a team and cheering when they win. I love football however I must admit I am an armchair quarterback rather than a rabid attending fan. I like instant replay, most of the commentation and the ability to watch at least 3 games a day rather than just attend one.

Some rambling thoughts on the midwestern teams (of which I am a great fan). Starting with one of the most dismal of them all - the Bears. I was a big Bear fan even going to their training camp in Platteville, WI back in the SuperBowl days when the Fridge was around. I hate to be a fairweather fan but you can only watch a team struggle for so long before you pick a second favorite that can actually win a few. This year, they dumped Waansteadt (sp?) which was what Chicagoans were screaming for and replaced him with a defensive coach from Arizona (I think). Whoever it is, I hope they can turn them around so we can have a great Green Bay - Bear rivalry again.

Moving on to Green Bay. Holmgren left for the Seahawks so we will see who is the muscle behind the success. I really like Brett Favre who is a scrambling and talented quarterback (who is supposed to be off the painkillers). It is great fun to be a cheesehead and cheer on the only city-owned team in the league. You will not hear the Pack talking about a bidding war over a new stadium and leaving Green Bay. NEVER! The wives tales are true and those tickets are willed down through families. Although it is a cold place to watch a game . . . very worth your while.

And the Vikings, my dad's favorite team. They sucked for so long and have gotten so close as of late. Last year's playoff loss was just devastating. Haven't checked out their line-up for this year but I am going to put them at the top of my list and will be a VIKING FAN this year!

One of the few players I have followed out of college, Marshall Faulk, is on to his third team so far . . . the Saint Louis Rams. There are some god awful teams in the league and Saint Louis is just not made for football especially the Rams. Don't know if he is yet to make a mark but I will follow his career to see.

So sorry to disappoint the masses who cheer on teams like the Cowboys or the 49ers. Just can't seem to get away from the 49ers. Never liked the team but they have always managed to cultivate the greatest players - Montana, Rice et al. Someone made mention of Walter Payton's rushing record. Records are meant to be broken but Payton was a great guy who was always personable at the training camps and lent a bit of class to the Bears (at least that is how I remember it when I was young). Hope there will be more like him. . .

Spy - I need some help here. I am trying to find the other team Faulk played for. Fantasy teams don't count, by the way.

I guess no matter what happens in the central, you will be stylin'. I haven't seen so much name dropping since Dennis Miller.

I guess it's gonna be hard to buy a jersey this year, given all the free-agency and moves. You could wear your Cheesehead with a Randy Moss jersey, then take it in on a Monday night game at the local pub.

That should prove for an interesting night!
