View Full Version : I got "the look"
I thought I was a cool mom. I thought I was still "young". Ok... I can't read anything up close when I have my contacts in and I have a gray hair or two, but that's not my fault...that's genetics... I got that from my mom. I never felt ready to wear the proper, conservative clothes I see in the Misses departments. I'm still more comfortable in a tight pair of Levis and boots. I don't like those clunky, heavy boots, though. I prefer a spike heel.. but that's not because I'm out of touch... I'm just more "in touch" with my sexuality.. right? No...I found out last night that I was wrong. Thankfully, I have a teenager to point out how hopelessly pathetic I am. God help me.. I called his Game Cube a "game box" last night. Now I see the error of my ways. I'm old. I'm throwing out the thongs and buying a couple of packs of Hanes Her Way when I get off work tonight. I probably should get some knee hi stockings while I'm there... and some slippers... and why in the hell hasn't somebody made me cut my long hair?!! Maybe my mom can go with me and show them hers... I'm sure it would look good on me.. cause apparently, from the look on my kid's face, I've TURNED INTO HER! :scary:
So... anyone else ever gotten "the look" from your kids?

LOL Kim, you got 'the look' & the lip. That was funny how he immediately called you on that but I would have also. :D If you go get Haynes & slippers I AM gonna call you old. :p
My oldest & I give each other 'the look' all the time. He's learning ;)
What's this "kid" everyone keeps talking about?
I don't feel so bad if even Barb gets "the look" sometimes. I'll hold off on the granny panties for awhile.
Cuda, the kid doesn't have to be yours... you can get the look from any kid over the age of 11 or so. You're usually pretty safe if they're younger than that. Sometimes, they will even look at you like you're magical or the smartest person in the world, if they're young enough. Hormones seem to take the blinders off, though.
Here's the kid that keeps me honest (http://www.bushwhacked.net/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=104832)

Hey Kimmy,
Aren't kids so perceptive. My daughter is still to young to realize I'm a little behind in the times - but I did shed my long locks about a year ago - it was great!! Go to a salon, find a cute cut in a magazine and go for it - it's just hair - you'd be surprised how much fun and easier it is to dry and style shorter hair. BUT don't, don't, don't get an 'old' haircut!!
Don't worry about your clothes - they say classic is back in style again!! And what man won't say a thong isn't 'classic!'
Have fun!

:nolike: They'll have to pry my hairspray from my cold, dead fingers before I'll cut my hair short again

You're so right about the haircut, Kim. I always had long hair too, up until a couple of years ago. I went to the hairdresser and asked her to cut it 'messy'. It instantly took at least ten years off my appearance. EVERYONE commented on it, said I looked better than I ever had and one guy I hadn't seen for years asked me if I'd had a facelift!!!! (he was pretty under the weather at the time, but still.....)
I'd never go back to long hair again, I love it short and messy. There's a couple of girls your age round here Kimmy, who still cling to their long hair, and I can't wait til they decide it's time for a change, they'll both look a million dollars when they do.Have a think about it, it really is like a new lease on life!!!
.....and I think I'm a bit like Sti - my kids used to be always asking me to turn the music down, but they've got with the program now and we all love loud music, we all went to see Pearl Jam together a few years ago and I don't think they were embarrassed about being with the oldest person there. I also went to the 'Big Day Out' (a huge music festival held here every summer) with my son. He's 25, and we spent the day getting stoned together and having a great time. The family that rocks together, stays together.......;)
Your hair is still as long as mine, Jilly :p

You really want to freak him out Kimmy and reeeeeaally get a "look"? You could go to a salon, get your hair cut and colored, then get a facial and have your nails (hands and toes) done, buy some way out sexy clothes and tell him you are getting ready to quit your day time job and become a professional dancer.....OR you could just tell him he has to clean his room because all the "Bressler Men" are coming over for dinner.
yeah, Sister.. he'd probably be in shock if he thought I was going to cook dinner ;)

Ha Kimmy. He may think you're behind the times, but I'll bet you that he thinks the color of your money that he'll want is up to date. One other solution...make him go clothes shopping with you for modern stuff...can't you just see the look on his face?

I feel the same way!! Well, I rarely use hair spray, but I don't want to cut my long hair. The Dorothy Hammill haircut when I was in about 8th grade did me in on short hair. I'm still mad at my mother for that one! (j/k)
Kimmy,
Your first post truly had me laughing out loud! That was a hoot!

Well after all this discussion, I'm going for a haircut tomorrow!!!!!!:)
Not me.
About 3 months ago, I told the person that does my hair that I wanted her to cut off about 6 inches. She refused.
She is also a friend of mine.

Teenager's don't know what 'cool' is. They equate it with indivuality, yet go to any means possible to be as much like their peers as they can manage.
'Cool', I think, is about developing your own style, one which your comfortable with, and one which isn't reliant on glossy magazines for it's inspiration. One day, he won't be a teenager anymore and he'll realise this.
Two sayings come to mind....
1: Youth is wasted on the young....
2. You're only as old as the man you feel.... ;)

Kimmy, if you can put up with your lounge room looking like this, you don't seem to get 'the look' quite so often.....
