Ok..who's A Prize Whore....

BACK in the day I was a mean prize whore....all the radio remotes I was there scoring CD's ...tee shirts.....and some pretty off the wall stuff.....have slacked off alot but still there are those free dinners and other thing's I find myself calling in on....right now I'm in the running for a give away that includes.....three signed gitar's one by cheap trick,ps2,dvd writer,acdc complet cd set, and some other stuff...odd's 1 in a 100 or so..........now who can not pass on contest gig's or what have you won........

LOL, I never thought of it in those words, but I guess you could say I am in a way. I don't do radio contest though. Most of my winnings are from online contests or from events I've been to. My Sis is also a mod at a sweeps site. I've got her trained to only send me links to the cool stuff now. ;)

I won an X-Box at a Falcon/Saint football game.

A bunch of Rock CDs, Coffee mug, T-shirt, 3 packs of hersheys kisses, stickers & a stupid cupid stuffed animal from a Guiness Book of World Records contest (random drawing) for the world's biggest kiss-off in Shreveport, La. They were about 60 people short of making the record.

I won an autographed book from Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead) If Chins could kill from Horrorfind & in another contest held by them 3 CD's. Evil Dead & a couple others I forget what they were now.

I won a swag (Coroners Jacket (John got that one ;) ), stress balls & a few hologram thingys) from Fear Dot Com contest on a Horror site for writing a story about, How you would scare the shit out of people on the internet. My story was about a bigfoot running rampant in Atlanta tearing women & children apart. They called me a sick bitch & awarded me grand prize. heh

I won a severed finger movie prop from another horror contest from the movie Biohazardous.

Got a cordless keyboard & mouse from Logitech from another contest online.

I won a poster from the movie, The Devil's Backbone, signed by Guillermero Del Toro, he even drew a picture of himself on it.(Mimic, Blade)

A Goth Horror Trivia game from Mcnutty games.

A buncha other stuff here & there. I'm not a fanatic about it, but if it's appeals to me I'll enter.

I frequently call in on radio contests. I've had some luck winning concert tickets, but I want to win $$$$!

I regularly listen to a local radio station in the morning (Stibroker's bitch that he whores. lol) but I switched to another station during the commercials this morning. That station must be a clear channel station because they did a "50th nationwide caller will win $1,000 bucks". I was calling like crazy, but no luck.

I often get through, but am not the right #'d caller. Here, they usually give the prize to "Caller 9". Is that common elsewhere?

I think it depends on the station, Texan. Sometimes up here it's the 95th caller (or whatever?) or the caller's number has to have something to do with the station's ID number, like 92.5 or 107. :shrug: I don't think they're all the same.

Interesing, Jilly. "Prize whore" here is more like "coke whore"....someone who will do anything for cocaine in return. Prize whore is similar because some of the things they make people do just to win something are pretty disgusting. Picking up the phone and dialing a number is no big deal, but they go beyond that!

I won my mum a huge box of chocolates for mother's day a couple of years back for writing a poem. I've won many DVD's and CD's in magazine comps. I won a signed Lenny Kravitz photo (framed with a touring jacket) and his latest CD. I didn't really even know his music, so it was pointless. I sold it through the trading post for $150.00 - YAY. I win the odd lipstick or movie ticket as well. It's fun entering comps.

I have had fair sucsess with radio contest. I recently won one by telling the DJ's I would favor them kindly in the radio ratings log I was keeping for the ratings company. Having had roommates and other close friends in that business, I know a few tricks to winning that type of deal. It takes just a little more than luck to do it consistently. I never played the card of knowing the people at the stations, and having a prize be set up. I always won them legitimately. With only one exception. I won a trip to see U2, years ago. I had a certain amount of time to call in after my name had been drawn, but the name drawing was a fix.

ok....talked her in to it.....it was a blast....we got in at 8pm....just in time for willies set....we HIT the bar and moved toward the stage...we found empty seats 20 ROWS FROM THE STAGE... ....so we are grooven in the fresh air with the scent of pot hitting us in the head( we missed all the other acts and willie was playing all his hits wit ray benson and aatw......I look over and there was this long haired dude with a pot leaf on his shirt and a fat hooter in his hand....so I smack him in in the arm....he looks down and pass's over my wife and bam.....I send it back....wife cuts me the eye's and I say...."see things work out"......at any rate,,,,after the show we go up to the bar to let the crowd clear out have a drink and head to our car though the empty out door seating and as we get to the exit gate I look over and it is Jackie Martling....I look at him and say "Jackie Martling"...he says yes....I shook his hand and said "heard you on KLBJ this morning and you rock"..(afterwards my wife asks ...who was that,,,,}....what else you gonna say She hates stern...he was very cordial....all though if I had stuck to my guns he might have got me on willies bus...it was late and he had connections and it was just us four standing there alone......now thats a party....at any rate it was a blast and add jackie to my list of who have you met....
