Whats wrong with TV:

Gardners, builders and landscapers used to be humble tradespeople. Now they're celebrities. Enough said.

That's a very good point also Jnr, very good point indeed.

It seems that every second tv show is about renovating someone's house or garden. YAWN

We have no actual entertainment today as opposed to shows in the 60s. Comedies like The Beverly Hillbillies or those with a moral messege like The Andy Griffith Show and Leave It To Beaver. The dramas were great too.
Basically, there is no talent or imagination in Hollywood anymore. Just MTV punks with political axes to grind and producers who I wouldn't let mow my lawn.

Oh yeah. I know that show combined politics and humor, but so did the Marx Brothers and I love their stuff. Some things are just fun to watch.

1. Reality shows.
2. Gross-out shows.
3. Sit-coms that make dumber jokes than the world leaders do.
4. Reruns of movies the hubby bores me with, for the 35th time, when it's on.
5. The Cartoon network.
6. Smart-a$$ed kids who give your kids dumb ideas about talking back.

I watch A&E.

My TV broke down about 3 weeks ago or so, and I still haven't found a suitable replacement.
But, I know what you are saying. TV used to be such a novelty...Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It To Beaver...I don't know why. I love watching these old shows, again and again...I guess it's comfort.
Usually I watch all the DIY shows, but that's because I work in landscaping and restoration. And I do my own work, if I can. (Broken leg, now going on 10 weeks, not withstanding. ) No, I don't really care for the reality shows too much. I've tried to watch a few, but couldn't get into them, but that's just me.
The only program I am addicted to is Coronation Street. I know you probably don't get it in the U.S., but maybe they get it in Oz. (British Production) I haven't seen it in 3 weeks! The shows they show are like 6 months behind, anyway. Stupid CBC.
I think there is way too many channels. I don't want half of the cr@p my cable company is offering me, but if I want my KTLA and my New York channels back again, I'm looking at a hefty hike. I have to buy a package, designed by them.
Pay only for what you want, indeed. :(

you know TV is going down, its going to be michael this and michael that for 6 months now. Then a year later well see the TV movie and more interviews...I hate TV...

However, there is a good side to the story...I start working at hollywood video tommarrow, so i get free movie rentals, and i can watch as many videos as I want. No more TV ever!!!

Not looking forward to Michael this and Michael that. I tried like H to avoid the OJ mess. Once you start watching, you have to keep going back, and nothing gets done.
There is a lot of things that shouldn't be shown on TV. I was angry about Iraq. I don't think I needed to know exactly where the troops were at any given time, especially since the nasties could pick it up on satellite. I was really upset about Jessica Lynch, til I found out she was truly safe.
Before I ramble on endlessly, I just don't get this ratings cr@p. I was more worried about the safety of the people over there, and felt it should have been handled otherwise.
I don't understand reporters badgering people who are devastated. I think the media hampers investigations too often, as well.
Getting back to the subject, I don't like much about Canadian TV anyway. I watch only American and British TV, as a rule.

Weren't things simpler when we were kids? (Speaking as a 47-year-old?)

And after all is said and done, my next purchase will be a TV. :hehe:
I miss Coronation Street!
I suppose all the DIY shows are actually reality shows, in a sense. I just find it frustrating looking at all these "perfect" people on the prime-time shows. They are just people, after all, but they have been chosen,as well. I'm sure these shows wouldn't be as popular if they just had regular, you-and-me types. (Not an insult to anyone, you get my drift)
The only one I was hooked on was Boot Camp. That Rawwwked!

To many freakin' reality shows. Everywhere you turn is a damn batchelor who is pretending to be rich eating cow brains while on an island where people get kicked off for being an average joe milionaire blah blah blah blah...

Now the only show I watch The Simpsons and hockey. (I have the center ice package on the satelite...it rocks!)

When I am not watching the Simpsons or hockey, you can usually find me surfin' porn or playing DiabloII online....much better entertainment value than the crap that is on tv anymore.

Like Jnr said, down here it's home renofuckingvations. Every second shows about a group of good-looking people ripping up someone's backyard or loungeroom. Then there's the property market shows, where we get to watch people trying to sell their houses, no doubt to someone who's going to come along and have it renovated. The property market is slowly on the turn, I wonder what they'll do when everyone runs out of money and can't afford their mortgages anymore. Start making shows about the perils of the rental market I suppose.
Current Affairs are also responsible for a large part of the crap we see down here. Our current affairs shows are always about weight loss programmes, neighbours from hell, miraculous medical inventions and fucking fruit juice, I mean seriously, how many angles is there to fruit juice, really?
And at the risk of sounding rude, I must reiterate that our TV schedules would be a lot better without the volumes of American crap we're subjected to. There's one channel that plays 'Get Smart-A-Thons', this usually involves four to six solid hours of, you guessed it, Get Smart. I'm afraid I simply cannot see the attraction. Then there's 'Queer eye for the straight guy'.... :) 'Nuff said.

So watch what you want to watch. Blame YOUR network executives , not me. This soldier had nothing to with what is on tv.

I didn't want to be assigned to my shift.I am thankful that I was. It seems it was a blessing. I miss prime time TV.

I am curious, what does "reality tv" have to do with real life?:nolike:

Point out one example of a so called reality show that is even close to real life.:what:

Yes it's true, our TV people choose to show it, and assumedly, there is a percentage of the population who must watch it. I am not blaming you personally, or JDub for that matter. I don't recall saying I felt you were responsible for the state of TV today. But, the fact remains that we are bombarded with an endless supply of crap that is produced in America, no doubt by Americans.
It may have nothing to do with you, but unfortunately it's still American....

My husband and I rent DVD's from NetFlix (http://www.netflix.com/) so most of what we watch are movies.
I do like West Wing, though.
I have actually learned a lot more about the way our government works from watching it. I know it isn't exactly like real government but it has still opened my eyes about many things I just didn't think about before.
The one thing I avoid is the local news. I hate the way they feel it necessary to report on every single shooting. Talk about making me want to lock the doors and never leave home!

It could be worse, trust me. They could be reporting on what everyone wore to the most recent CWA (Country Womens Association) meeting and some farmer who just bought a new tractor...

List off some these shows that you despise. I will probably agree with you.

Just boycott the advertisers who support the shows. That is what I do, along with a certified letter explaining why I have chosen to boycott there product.;)

INFO-FUCKIN-MERCIALS !!!

Who ever thought up the concept of these dam things should be shot without a blindfold.
Ads in general suck..but come on!!..to make a feature length tv show about steak knives...complete with an audience...AND..to add insult to injury..with ad breaks...ffs ads during an ad ??!!??

Fuck every dam ab contraption ever made
Fuck anything to do pilates
Fuck hair removal wax/cream/gel and scarey electronic zappers
Fuck aging actresses pushing miracle wrinkle creams
Fuck fat free friers and all things vaccum sealed
Fuck Tony Robins/Chuck Norris & that chick who used to be married to Billy Joel

:fbomb:

We get a morning show here...The Bert Newton Show...he's a mildly amusing tv veteran who interviews celebraties who are only there to promote their new movie/book/play/products...then the woeful Moira does live ads doing badly scripted interviews with idiots selling all of the above..then they go to an ad break!!!... the whole dam show is basically and ad....man, Bert needs his arse kicked....the show's so pitiful I can't even be bothered giving him a bomb. :bore:

INFOMERCIALS ARE AN INSULT TO ANYONE'S INTELLIGENCE

I think all the producers, directors, writers, etc are trying to be one ones getting all the credits, awards, etc. So they push the envelope as much as possible to get more press, to get higher ratings, to shock the public. I think what would be shocking is good TV shows that don't have to show us the extreme drama - but just give us a good plot line. One we're not afraid for our kids to even watch with us!

The reality shows are ridiculous - and those Networks are making MILLIONS off of those fools who agreed to participate because the show can go into syndication and be replayed while those 'players' get jack. (Unless they win of course.)

Another big frustration is with all the new syle of 'teen' shows out there geared to oversexed, overjocked kids who jump in and out of bed with everyone - THAT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO REAL LIFE. Yet because of all the glam - they are a hit.

My two cents - that's all.

The consolation prizes range from approximately $2,500 for the first person voted off the island, to approximately $100,000 for the runner-up. For 39 days or less of deprivation that's not too bad. And those ppl all agreed to the deal when they signed on. From what I read, a lot of them are making money from their 'newfound' celebrity also. Local/national commercials, TV appearances, product endorsement, Playboy spreads etc... I doubt they're sharing any of that with CBS. ;)

I actually watched Newlyweds with Jessica Simpson the other day. Cat had eaten all my cookies again. Anyway, what was she thinking? They were arguing all the time and she was going on about how Nick didn't think she was as sexy as his dancers, blablabla.. Then she bought two bra's for 650 dollars and she got all hysterical; "I didn't look at the tag, I just signed it!"

And why don't I like reality TV? :hehe:

And what aboot TV stations in the last five years or so who insist in pimping off their corporate logo watermark increstation at the bottom right of the screen. Who else besides their overpaid PR executroids appreciates this crap? I surely don't. I kid you not, on Monday nights on Canada's TSN, there's live pro-wrestling, and three of the corners are occupied with a logo: WWE (bottom left), SpikeTV (bottom right) and TSN (top right), argh!
