View Full Version : What Freaks You Out?
Do you have any irrational or silly fears or things that you just find exceptionally creepy?
Some people are freaked out by snakes, swimming in the ocean, spiders, thunderstorms, etc.
My strange fear is that an airplane is going to crash into my house. This has nothing to do with 9/11. I've had that fear for years. When one flies too low over my house it freaks me out. I don't live in a flight path, so it is unusual to hear a plane fly over.
I heard a plane fly over this morning which was pretty loud, then a few minutes later I heard another one and it kept getting louder and louder to the point where I actually got scared and went running for my husband. Did I run downstairs where it would be safer? No. I ran for my husband. I've never been that scared by hearing a plane fly over. I love to fly and don't mind being around them when I am out in the open and can see them, but being in the house freaks me out. The neighbors must have been concerned too because they came out of their houses and were looking in the sky.

I'm afraid of people I'll never meet. Fushcia terrifies me. When I open a can of corn, I just know they're going to leap into my nose and kill me! Words with no vowels keep me awake for weeks. One time, a puppy that I petted peed on the floor, so I stabbed it 27 times because Satan was in that puppy! I can't walk over ground because the Earth might open up and swallow me. I have no skin.
Mainly, threads like this scare the shit out of me. :scary:

SPIDERS!!! If it has 8 legs, I squish it. I know they have their purpose in life, but their purpose is not to be around me.
I'm freaked out by odd numbers...and Aussies.
Faggot, eating tigers freak me out.....oh, and that puppy getting stabbed 27 times by Pete is also kind of disturbing

I agree! The little ones you might find in the house aren't too bad, but the big dock spiders that appear at the cottage - ewww!
I'm allergic to them, and I've been bitten while I'm sleeping. I break out in welts.
I saw one of those Giant Green Huntsman Spiders in a picture. If one came near me, I'd faint dead away. Glad they're not native to Canada. Yikes! :scary:

Do you have the brown recluse spiders (aka Fiddlebacks)? Those are some nasty critters! If they bite you it can rot a spot out of your flesh that requires a skin graft. Brrrr!

Brrrr! is right! Just went and looked them up at Google. The dock spiders do look similar, and they say they have been seen here in Ontario. My bites weren't quite that bad, but my neck did swell up to the point that I couldn't turn my head.
Snakes are creepy too. They killed 2 rattlers on the cottage property last summer, which is unusual for the area. :scary:

We cohabit quite peacefully with snakes and spiders here. Slugs freak me out, they really are the most disgusting creatures. We used to get these great big ones that would come out of the slime somewhere and slide into the laundry and eat cat food. Someone told me that if you put salt on them, it kills them, so I did, and it kinda started dehydrating instantly and all these green bubbles came out of it's ass, and it died. One night I stood on one, accidentally, and it made a distinct popping sound before all it's disgusting insides squelched up between my toes. I'd rather stand in a bucket of shit any day........

Don't they eat the ones with shells?.......and then call them fancy names like 'escargot'. At least when we eat disgusting things we remove the entrails first, and then the French make pate and stuff out of them.......

They love beer too, in fact if you leave a bowl of beer out, they'll actually drown in it, but I couldn't bring myself to empty a beer/slug cocktail. One night we had a barbeque and were sitting outside drinking beer. I put my beer down to go and get something, came back and picked it up, and one of them had crawled up the side of the stubby!!!! Fortunately, it hadn't managed to get inside, and I noticed before I drank from it. I think I might have given up alcohol if it had got to the beer.....

The mutilated body parts of birds, mice, rabbits, etc. that my cat drags in the house freaks me out. Once the hubby got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and stepped on something squishy. He thought it was the dog’s rawhide, but it turned out being a defeathered bird. Yuck. :scary:

Nah. In order to keep them from exploding (I assume this happens when you are microwaving them) you should poke a few holes in them with a fork.

Kitten Survived Five Minutes in Microwave
A three-month-old kitten who was microwaved on full power for five minutes by her owner, suffered such injuries she had to have her tail and hind leg amputated. Tilly was cooked like a piece of meat in the oven. Amazingly, she survived her horrific ordeal, despite not receiving immediate veterinary treatment. Tilly’s plight only came to light after a friend of her owner noticed the young animal appeared unwell. Tilly’s owner, Scott Taylor, 19, then claimed he had put her in the microwave.
He must have forgotten the duct tape, and the holes.....or didn't cook it long enough......

Jilla...what I wouldn't give for a couples of minutes in a locked room with that creep...people who are cruel are the lowest form of human life. Cruelty in all its forms disgusts me. I truelly believe one can judge a person and a society on the quality of its mercy.
As an animal aide worker I see and hear about alot of cases that disgust me. Have spent the last 2 days organizing several cats who've had a hard time and need vet care and recovery at foster homes....one of them will be staying with us....joining the 17 we already have here. Sometimes I'm so burnt out and exhausted by it all.....but when I see these pathetic sad creatures who've been so tortured and neglected by supposedly intelligent people...I'm moved and motivated to do as much as I can. I may be tired and broke from doing the small job I do but I am well loved by the small scraps of life who have found shelter and compassion in my home.
Yes, I know alot of people don't like cats and I know there's alot of kidding in here about cats and how to dispose of them....but I presume no-one in here would stoop to cruelty. I think it takes a ceratin lack of intellect...and a complete lack of the sentience that raises us above the level of animals and makes us human.
So now ya probably think I'm the crazy cat lady....:) nah, just plan ole crazy...and we have other critters too, not just cats....people dump all sorts of animals:what:
I've seen too much to be freaked out by the things people are capable of stooping to.
jillamanda
10-10-03, 03:25 PM
I totally agree with you BF. I'm a softy for animals of all kinds too, and there's no excuse for cruelty. Someone who gets pleasure from inflicting pain on innocent animals has BIG problems. We're notorious for taking in strays too. I have no time for people who have no time for animals - simple as that........

To be sitting in a chair watching TV and a cat in the floor suddenly turns it's head towards you and has a look of pure anger right passed your head. You get that "heebee jeebee" feeling and turn to look at the solid wall behind you, only to discover a hugh hand pertruding from it with a half-eaten foot in it's grasp.
That always freaks me out.
Dude, you have got to lay off the shrooms for awhile.

How can there be any sort of defense? That is just plain sick. The testimony of the 4 living "victims", I'm not sure if I want to hear that or not. I'm sure I'll sleep well tonight. NOT!
Jeez, just to picture this guy and his prey makes me shudder.
I am a big fan of Thomas Harris and his Hannibal Lecter stories, but that's just fiction, made me cringe nonetheless.
But for someone to be doing what this guy did in real life? :scary:  :nono:

My phobias have changed over the years.
When I was younger I was terried of large stuffed animals - I couldn't go into a toy shop where all the furry toys were - they scared me shitless.
I've always been shit scared of spiders - of any kind, littlies or biggies! I have actually hyperventilated over a spider incident, and I have also stayed in a room for 6 hours just so I didn't risk walking under a spider that was on the wall on the other side of the door - had to wait for hubby to come home from work!
I am terrified of moths, even butterflies... don't know when that began, when I was younger. I know a big brown moth once dive bombed my head in the loo - that's probably when it began.
I had a panic disorder for a few years and has agoraphobia - but that was pretty serious, required meds for that one!
My brother had an animal book when we were younger, there was a picture of an elephant swimming and it used to terrify me. Don't know why - it still makes me irk just thinking about it.
Hate spiderwebs, cos I know what causes them!
I think that's about it.

I finally thought of something that really grosses me out.....maggots....I can deal with just about anything, but maggots make me dry reach....eewww!!!
...and another one which is a bit odd really...cotton balls...I can't pick one up with dry fingers...the squeaky feel they have makes me shudder..and if they touch my finger nails....aarrgghhh!!! I can touch them if my fingers are wet tho:rolleyes:
GB....spiders would have to be one of the most common freak outs. Sorry, but I find it funny that you got trapped in your room for hours coz you couldn't walk under it..hehehe. Tho I don't one one crawling one me I can deal with them and always catch them and let them go outside. Poor ole spiders....so I guess Charlottes Web isn't one of your favorite books.;)

Spiders used to be one of my phobia's until my hubby showed me how 'fragile' they are and how easily you can squish them. HOWEVER, we had a problem with a few big wolf-spiders in our basement and that tested my 'freak-out' level a bit.
What freaks me out right now is the remnants of a spider. We have aquired an older family home that the basement hadn't been kept up in years. We've got all but 1 room cleaned out and that last room has lots of cobwebs with the spider's 'dinners' still attached. I HATE that room and asked Sideout put a sheet up until we could get the shop vac in it and take everything out to the trash. I'm hoping he takes care of that room so I don't have to.

Spiders are quite the popular phobia and for good reason. Ever get too close to one and watch it rear up, raising it's front legs at you? ...I have a theory, and although it's none too popular, if you think about it... Spiders want you to lean in close so they can leap up on your face and suck all of the liquid out of your eyes. I swear it's true. And for God's sake, don't ever simply WOUND a spider, he'll limp off and they'll come back in droves, to hide in your shoes or crawl about your person whilst you're sleeping. I used to prefer to vacuum the little buggers, but then when it comes time to change the bag, I wonder if they are just pissed off and waiting for the chance to leap at me when I open the case and give them the opportunity to surge forth, dust covered and poisonous... Hairspray and a lighter are the best defense, although it's a little hard on the carpet. Glue also works, but only if they are on a horizontal surface and then you have to explain why there are spiders glued to the floor, countertops, etc. I prefer to leap onto furniture, keeping a keen eye on the spider's whereabouts, and scream at the top of my lungs for somebody to come and kill it. Don't ever look them in the face. They consider that a sign of aggression and they'll attack.
Hello. My name is DangerGirl and I am unreasonably afraid of spiders. *sigh*

LOL Dangergirl - although I'm not laughing completely - you managed to freak me out!!!!
Last weekend I walked into our ensuite and I noticed 6 specks dotted around the ceiling - I'm talking tiny - and then I realised they were baby spiders - some "mother" had had babies and now they were in my bathroom. Hubby's like "oh they're harmless - they'll disappear" - yeah right, and they're gonna grow up and become huge freakin' huntsmen and I can't have that! So out comes the bug spray and I killed every one of them! The next day, 5 more appear. Same deal! A couple of hours later 3 more appeared in the bedroom, killed them dead. I haven't seen any more so I'm hoping I got the whole litter!
The only good spider is a fuckin DEAD spider!!!

Your description gave me chills. AND I laughed off my chair. I don't know where you live, but if the spiders are as creapy as you make them out to be I don't want to be in your area.
I think I'll send you a can of raid too!
I hear ya DangerGirl, Spiders give me the creeps too. :worry:
I had one bite me on the neck when I was a little cuda. It kinda freaked me out because I had never seen this particular kind of spider before. It was maybe about a half inch big and pale green in color. I’d never seen one like it before and my friend, who was with me, had never seen one like it either. In about fifteen minutes the bite had turned into a yellow/orangish, golfball sized welt. Never had that happen either. The welt disappeared in a few days, but I still worried since I never had a reaction like that before to a bug bite. I was kinda hoping for spiderman powers. :what:
I’m gonna send you a lighter to go with the cans of Raid everyone is sending you. :)

What you need to do, is cook ol' Sideout a big fat steak, with a baked tater and some brown sugar glazed steamed carrots. With a couple dinner rolls, and a pie for dessert.
That should prep him nicely to go take care of that room.

Man...all this anxiety for such a tiny and mostly harmless creature. We got alot of Redbacks here (poisonous)...sure happy we don't get Funnel Webs down here in Victoria..now they are one scarey spider. Over all tho I think spiders a cool....they are the natural enemy of the fly and the mosquito and in my book that makes them a friend. We get alot of those skinny 'daddy long legs' type spiders here....they makes webs on the ceiling and I leave them there to take care of the flies.....they are a spider eating spider....so we don't see other types of spiders in the house..plus when they breed to prolificly they eat each other..so there's always a few but never enough to be freaky.
Living up north a bit we had these St.Andrews Cross spiders..smallish striped ones that made webs across open windows with a big cross in the middle..then they just sit in the centre...great way to get a cool breeze all summer without the dam flying insect problem.
As for killing them...no way...apart from the fact I think it's cruel...what if they have a large family who know who you are and seek revenge.

Not entirly correct they're to be found in the East Gippsland region of Victoria, I used to have a Chysler ute (pickup truck) that had a funnelweb living in the corner of the dashboard, I didn't bother it n' it didn't bother me.
Many years ago an ABC radio newsreader got the sack (fired) for saying on air "And in Sydney today, a woman got bit on the funnel by a fingerweb spider" I guess he got his funnels n' fingers crossed

Bearfoot - my turn to gross you out... regarding maggots. A few years back when we were living elsewhere, John owned this huge water dragon (my brother has it now) and he would feed it maggots. One day he dropped the container of maggots on the floor - have you ever seen a carpet come alive with 100's of maggots. It was truly gross!

Peas - have you had a bad experience or you just don't like the colour or the fact that they roll around your plate?

Maybe my fear isn't so irrational afterall. :worry:
Deadly Crash In Lakeway Area
News 36 Video
Here is the story:
• Lakeway Plane Crash
A small private plane crashed into a luxury home on The Hills Drive, killing all six people on board.
The accident happened during takeoff from the Lakeway Airpark, about 17 miles west of downtown Austin. The two-story residence caught fire during the accident near The Hills of Lakeway golf course.
One witness said he saw the plane about ten seconds after it took off and could hear the engine struggling.
The witness said the engine quit, and the plane nose-dived into the home.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash killed four adults and two children.
Three people were inside the home during the crash -- the couple who live in the home and a repairman. They escaped unharmed.
Officials believe the plane may have been heading to Oklahoma City and may have stopped in Lakeway to refuel.

Tex - tho I live in a rurtal area, we are only a few house blocks aways from the local airport. It's nothing more than a really big long paddock and can only take those small joy flight type planes. The runway ends at the cliffs over thebeach, if you'reon the beach in the right spot when the planes take of it looks and sounds like the plane is gunna drop on your head - I'm sure it would thrill you. :Poke:
We used to go to an airport upNroth (Cairns Queensland) and just for the hell of it people used to gather at the end of the run way and have a few drinks & cones. The runway was short in those days and the really big planes only just got off the ground before they got to the mesh fence. We'd sit on top of our cars and the plane would come roaring straight toward us - and lift at the last moment - it was deafening, and man, the suction almost lifted ya of ya feet. A dumb buzz really, but it just became a cult sort of thing to do.
I am with you there, buddy. You have to admit, though, that he is creative...in a sick and twisted way. As for me, the puppy must be eaten. Also, squirrels with razors are a real threat to me. I fear that they are going to slice my tendons, then when I fall to the ground, they will chew my nuts off.
you know, it's funny, I couldn't really think of a single thing that really freaks me out...that was, until I read Pete's response...
I always get sick when I think back to the time when I had a cup of yogurt with fruit chunks, only to discover that the flavor was actually plain. Never did figure out what the chunks were.
The thought of consuming liquid yogurt freaks me out. :!:
