Which brings me back to my earlier post... that's what marketing agencies and designers are for! You wanna save a buck and "pretend" to be designer, then go for it. It'll just come out looking unprofessional and that's what will represent you.

na...it's cool cuda.....but my thought on this is ....when mailing a post card you have about 3 sec's to get your point made before they decide to chunk it......or keep it and make the call ...it really does not need to be the flashest thing in the world.....in the insurance field life insurance is the hardest product to sell....and to get my life case's I first have to sell health insurance to them before they trust me on the life recomendation's....I have a flyer with pull tab's that I also made on my comp that i get 3 to 4 call's on a week and have to replace them every two week's....I tryed this once....made a life sign and a health sign and hung them next to each other on a billboard....after a week ...half the tab's were pulled on the health flyer and none on the life flyer soooooo when I mailed about 2500 of these card's out I was only expecting maybe 3 to 5 call's....I did get one call....it was from an old lady telling me I had sent her son this card and he had died 5 to 6 mo's ago and if I can take his name off my list...go figure....good thing I did not dump $5000 into this life mailer but I bet you if I take that same card and put...ARE YOU PAYING TO MUCH FOR YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN...WELL LET ME TELL YOU IF YOUR GETTING A GOOD DEAL....CALL STIBROKERAGE WE REPRESNT ALL THE TOP RATED INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP HEALTH COMPANY'S ...LET US SHOP YOUR NEED'S .....I bet I could get 25% at least give me a call....and you ask why have i not done it...well with my yellow page ad and referals and sign's...I have health coming out my ear's....and just wanted to talk life.....but it look's like I have to stay in the health game to play the life game.......

Actually, Sti is right. One time, we had a canvasser who passed out a flyer that mortified me. Misspellings, bad grammar... badly printed on a home computer...he got plenty of call backs and sales. We just did a mass mailing and have only gotten 3 responses. This is what we used.. it's a fold out, heavy stock, glossy paper, w/detachable response postcard that I didn't include here. I designed this, btw... so be kind with your criticism:

This was my first photo shop and is running in the Gosport this week. The Gosport is the Navy newspaper that not only goes out to the all the local bases, commissaries, hospital, etc., but also anyone who gets a military newcomer package gets a copy of the current Gosport and it's also delivered as an insert to the local newspaper to the four zip codes with the highest military population in Pensacola. I'm also putting it on post cards. Even if I don't get a single response, I had fun putting it together!

I didn't see tentatively and at a distance. Anything that interupts my smooth flow of the day by attempting to sell me something I'm not interested in at the time is a huge pain in the ass. When I want something I know how educate myself before making a purchase. Unwanted solicitations are just that... unwanted.

ok...how would you educate yourself on life and health insurance.....no two health plan's are alike and I have seen some policy's that would screw you over royaly(and the people that sold them made them sound like the best thing ever).....and then say you found one.....how would you find an agent......

Dave
09-26-03, 07:25 AM
Sti, seriously......isn't that the worst form of advertising, I know I would never buy insurance from a postcard......I don't even look at that stuff when I get it in the mail, I know what mail is important and what mail has a bill in it...all the other stuff gets tossed.

I agree with Cuda, you need a marketing person for that.....actually, in my business, word of mouth is the best advertising....networking and referrals. Why not concentrate on local Chamber of Commerce meetings, Rotary or Lions Clubs.....you make good contacts after a while and people will refer you when to people they know who are looking for insurance....

I work in Advertizing. (when I work heh) If something doesn't have immediate eye appeal it is guaranteed to be thrown out w/o a second glance. If it's too crowded, hard to read, too many typefaces, colors etc. No one is going to read it. You can catch someones eye with well placed graphics & a clean organized look. Also, mailing lists are extremely important. It's well worth the money to have a targeted audience. Mass mailings may get you a few hits, but you'd get a better response if the people you mail it to are on a specific list of folks that are already interested in your specific product or service.

Talk to friends, family, research it on the net, at the library.... it's not as hard as you think to find good information if you're willing to do the work. Once I've got a good understanding of what I'm looking for "I" contact several providers and hear what they have to offer. Then use my common sense to make a decision.

However, in this case I already have an excellent package through the University and they pay nearly the whole cost. It is in their best interest to take care of me in the long run. The same can not be said about salespeople. Call me cynical, but I wouldn't have this attitude if I hadn't encountered so many bad salespeople over the years.

I asked him were he had found this plan and the next week I was helping his friend.....it all boils down to trust and educating your client and not just trying to sell them......I tell my client's that I do not know how to fix my own car...but I hope that the person working on my car is not putting a carb. just to make a boat payment....same way with insurance.....if I can not show it to you in writing do not belive me.....I shop your needs as I would shop it for my own family...thus is why I get referal's....fine print can trip you up.....

OK, maybe you'd wanna change the "I Shit You Not" tagline, and maybe you'd wanna find a more "politically correct" bum, but the general idea is imagry...make sure they at least catch your name! Don't overload them with info in your ad...just bait the hook and wait for the calls to come rolling in ... Hmmm, sounds easy

I think I'm ging to do some telemarketing. I'm going to call residents and and say that I'm a loan officer with "_______" (Fill in the blank with a competitors name). I'll be excessively rude so as I can be assured the residents will call and complain and my competitor will be squashed with $11,000.00 fines!.

By the end of the year I should be the only mortgage company around ;)

Hey Scott,

I noticed your posting on 'Screwed by insurance' while I was looking for info on health insurance for my daughter, and since you look like a local (Austin), I thought I would shoot you an e-mail. Maybe you can help me. So far, I haven't talked to anyone who can steer me toward what I want. To wit, a policy to cover my college student daughter to supplement her student health plan. Currently, I am spending close to $200 a month for health insurance which she will probably never need, simply to cover her in the event of a catastrophe, like smashing up on her bicycle and requiring hospitalization. The ordinary outpatient stuff is taken care of by the college health clinic. Is there a large deductible major medical product where we can forget about ordinary doctor visits?

Sti, I know what you mean. We pay much more than $5 dollars for our leads. There's supposed to be a limit (3, I think) to how many people who are allowed to purchase the lead, but many times we hear that they've heard from a lot more than that. Also, we use another site that's cheaper. Funny thing is, a lot of the times the leads are the same ones we purchase from the other company. We don't know if the same people are using both services or if the cheaper company is purchasing the leads and reselling. Like you, we're still here a year later.. and I have to admit, it's because of internet leads.

MOSNEWS.com (http://MOSNEWS.com/news/2005/07/25/spammerdead.shtml) - Vardan Kushnir, notorious for sending spam to each and every citizen of Russia who appeared to have an e-mail, was found dead in his Moscow apartment on Sunday, Interfax reported Monday. He died after suffering repeated blows to the head.

Kushnir, 35, headed the English learning centers the Center for American English, the New York English Centre and the Centre for Spoken English, all known to have aggressive Internet advertising policies in which millions of e-mails were sent every day.

In the past angry Internet users have targeted the American English centre by publishing the Center’s telephone numbers anywhere on the Web to provoke telephone calls. The Center’s telephone was advertised as a contact number for cheap sex services, or bargain real estate sales.

Another attack involved hundreds of people making phone calls to the American English Center and sending it numerous e-mails back, but Vardan Kushnir remained sure of his right to spam, saying it was what e-mails were for.

Under Russian law, spamming is not considered illegal, although lawmakers are working on legal projects that could protect Russian Internet users like they do in Europe and the U.S.
