View Full Version : What's for lunch?
So, what the hell are you eating for lunch today? I fucked up and didn't make anything this morning and I'm too busy to go out so I'm stuck with a Ramen Instant lunch from my emergency rations. I used to live off this stuff on the boat. :)

Hot Dog - man, we just can't survive without the hot dog guy. It sucked earlier this summer...the only restaurant nearby was closed for a month and the hot dog guy was in an accident that totaled his trailer/grill cart and kept him out of action for the same few weeks....seriously, I don't know how we made it

1 Maffra pie with sauce.
I just love Mafia sauce....and man, do they make good meatballs, must be cause they slice the garlic so thin and get the freshest cuts of meat.....:hehe:
Is Mafria sauce similiar to vegemite?
Well, today it was Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken....came with a salad with creamy jalapeno dressing. (you Texans will understand this.....it's Ranch with jalapeno bits in it....has a nice bite which blends nicely with the cool Ranch)
It's the annual Green Chile festival at Chuy's. This is when the New Mexico Green Chiles are in season, so all our Chuy's restaurants have the Green Chile festival. They have a special menu for about 3-4 weeks with special items featuring the green chile. You can even buy green chiles from them to take home and make your own concoction.
Yummy! It's a thousand times better than Vegemite could possibly be. (Barb........you might disagree since ..........oh.........nevermind..........you just need to visit Austin and do another taste test. Although, I doubt you could top last nights taste test. ;) )

Well, if you'd like the recipe for that soup (I made it Friday night and let it stand overnight) it'll last you a few days. I'm going to make another soup, some kind of pasta, and some pizza muffins in the next few days, enough that I can freeze. Easy enough I can grab it out of the freezer on my way out the door.

I'm going to try a new recipe today. It is called Chinese Black Pepper Steak. I know that the local Chinese restaraunt does something like this and it is good. So, I'm anxious to see if the recipe that I found on the internet compares to it.
Okay, I'm gonna try a recipe from when I was in Thailand called...Gunaseehowdrunkuare.... it consisted of Bar-b-qued grasshoppers and Singh-ha beer with a side order of Rocky 4. The grasshoppas were tasty.... the beer wasn't and Rocky 4 sucked.

Ok, I had a Wendys chicken sandwich for lunch. What the hell is up with that???? yeah, she surprised me when she said it was 99 cents. But when I got back to work with the sandwich, it was tiny!!!! Damn... I'm still hungry. I would rather pay $2.69, or $3.29, or whatever and get a real chicken sandwich!!! :p
No more Wendys, even though it is right across the street from the office.

We are having lunch paid for by the Museum "slush fund". Actually, we have a staff lunch in preparation for our big Christmas event (this Sunday, provided it doesn't rain). So, I'm having a turkey and avocado sandwich from the local sandwich joint. As the kids say, "It's the bomb."
Am I showing my age? Should I have said it was "rad" instead?

I had another crappy school lunch but after work a coworker and I had steak fajita nachos, chicken enchilladas and a couple of margaritas. Ummm Ummm good!!!
Jaz
What is the best lunch they serve at the school?? Up here fridays are always pizza day, back when I was in school the pizza was horrible....cheese was of the gov't kind and very oily - now my kids have pizzas brought in from outside restaurants and they dont have to walk uphill both ways to school.
I think back in my day the turkey dinner was probably the best lunch (although I can remember getting a severe case of the shats from it in 2nd garde)

I always took my lunch to school. Or walked home for lunch.
We weren't allowed to leave the building - snuck out a few times to McD's...once they had a school bus come up and pick us all up cuz there were so many people from the school there....principal wasn't happy. Once we used the excuse that we were writing a story for the school paper, that didn't work out too well for us. I had a math teacher who would look the other way if we went to the coffee shop as long as we brought him back a cruller.

In grade school, I walked home for lunch. In Jr. high, I took my lunch. (we couldn't afford for me to eat lunch at school) In high school everyone walked two blocks to the fast food place. but of course, this was all in the 60s and 70s.
:Puking::Puking::Puking:
:laugh:agreed I didn't take to it so well. Now had they had some gefilte fish and matzos I'd be pretty happy.
I don't mind a good Jewish deli - some pastrami of roastr beef or even a corned beff....but i Like cheese on my meat so I usually don'thit the kosher joints but the fishes are nasty and I am a fish guy....that watery gefilta fish in the jar...again *barf*

Well it took a bit for me to eat there food, but I think I've adjusted to it better than most Jewish folks. It is like eating vegemite you have to put it on very light.
I could go for a nice bowl of chicken noodle soup about now....:)
