This picture was taken on the Texas coast last year.
Pictures can't capture the brilliance of the colors we saw in the minutes leading up to and after this picture. There was a cross section of a rainbow in one of those clouds. We saw lightening within the cloud. The waves were pinky-orange. It was a beautiful sight.

This picture was taken (by my husband, of course) at Eeyore's Birthday party this year.

What's funny to me is the guy on the left. Looks like he is franticly running to capture the nearly naked woman on film.

*poor dog*

(In case you're wondering, this photo was not photoshopped. You see all sorts of weird people at Eeyore's birthday party even before the drugs kick in.) :)

I adore lake pictures because I love going to the lake. It has such fond memories since my childhood. I really should get a house on a lake. I would love that.

From the times I lived in Florida, and all the times we have visited since, I have never seen an alligator in the wild. Yesterday, finally, we saw them. We couldn't stop on the highway, but once we got to a boatramp, we wondered if there would be any there. Sure enough there were these two critters. I was about 5 feet away when I took this one. It was about a 8-9 footer I think.

Nice Pics, GH! What are you shooting with? (I'm in the market for a digital camera)

groovehouse
09-04-03, 05:21 AM
Canon A40, but I don't recommend it. It's a great cam, but the macro setting sucks and the newer models are more than 2 megapixels. The good thing about the cam is that it takes 10 and 30 second movies with sound.

Oh it runs, trust me, cars don't stay parked in the french quarter for very long if they don't run. With the street cleaning, you HAVE to move your car every few days, if it's not moved, it's towed.

My motivation for the photo was two fold. First, I sort of looked at it like, STOP rust! Secondly, I just thought the pic would look great as a desktop, which I did use for a while. It was just an old funky car, in the funky french quarter and I couldn't pass up the pic. Thank for inquiring.

Thank you so much for saying that Vicky. I appreciate all the encouragement you have sent my way. One of the hospital employees was looking at her chart, then looked at her, then said with a serious expression, "You don't look 70".
Surprised by the comment, my mother said, "I'm not 70. I'm 80".
The hospital employee was amazed.

I think people stereotype older people, but you can't do that with my mother. She is a strong, independant, beautiful woman who loves her family with a passion that is indescribable. She has had a set-back in the past few days, but she will get better. I trust in God that she will get better and be around for a while longer. She was so happy to get back to her own home today.

The first picture I posted was from a long time ago. We were jumping into a river (the Snoqualmie) on a hot summer day (I am the really white dude) off a railroad trestle. I asked a friend of mine to go above us and take a snapshot and that picture is what came out. It was kind of a fluke; I never thought it would be that cool.

Great shots one and all..love the first one on the Texas coast.

This was taken a few days after the ice storm of 98 in Ormstown, Quebec about 25 clicks outside of Montreal. Now this was surreal, after the first night the trees and such were so heavy with ice you could hear them moaning all night long and many snapping under the pressure. To see this same place today you'd never know it happened..gotta love how fast nature rebounds.

Nice pictures and your description was fabulous!
I remember that groaning, crackling sound of ice storms. Pretty freaky. Walking outside in the midst of one is surreal. The gentle sound of the freezing rain or sleet, then the sound of those frozen things creaking in the wind, which is later followed by the sounds of it all melting.

The last major one we had here was amazing. The tree limbs of our tall trees in the front yard were bent over (not brokern) lying on the driveway. One limb from an oak tree was drooping at just the right spot where I couldn't back my car out of the garage. I was amazed that after a few hours of melting, the trees were standing tall in their original positions.

I remember that ice storm. My brother-in-law in Ohio is a lineman for a power company and he was on the crew that went to Canada to help restore power. He said it was the worst ice storm he had ever seen. With all the overtime he got on that 'trip' (he was in Canada for over a month putting up poles and reconnecting lines) he bought a generator that can power his entire house for 3-5 days should anything happen like that in Ohio.

Very nice Sideout, look like lots of fun

The other night, I was wrapping presents for the kids and I ran out of paper and I turned to my girlfriend and said, If I wrapped this empty tube up and gave it to them, they would have more fun with that than these toys..........kids and cardboard.....like peas and carrots

Ain't that the truth...over they years I think they've had more fun with a variety of cardboard boxes than anything else...

Hmmm...that would make christmas a lot easier on the wallet, wouldn't it? ;)

Be glad to!

This was taken early in my truck driving career, starting out. I drove for 12 years. I am now retired, and write: poetry and short stories. On the road, I was never without my Minolta X-370.

This is Utah's Echo Canyon, looking down from the rest area on west bound I-80, just before you get to the I80/I84 junction, at the bottom of the hill. (If you look close, you can see tail lights of vehicles, but barely!)

It was raining, and the sun was going down. A break in the clouds, provided enough sunset, for the un-natural colours to show. I just HAD to snap this! It's so surrealistic: greens, pinks, purples and blues.

Glad you like it. I do have another good Utah shot, of the "Metephor", on I-80. I have alot of pics.........., haahaa! I finally have the time to play with them now. :)

Turbo turned his nose up at this when I brought it home from Costco. But that was cause I forgot to remove the tag, which showed a dog lounging in it. After I tossed in my couch blanket he was very much down wit it, and he hasn't moved from there since. Uh, cat? hey, Cat?, ehh WAKE UP!!! :scary: :what: Ah, he's OK! :xmas:

Cool pics Black Static. Gotta remember to mail you those postcards from here. :D When are you going to start that thread? You could do one here.

LOL @ Turbo.
Hootie and the gang says Merry Christmas Turbo. Yeah they can read too. They said to tell you that Peck should buy you some Kookamunga catnip treats. And Peck should make sure you have lots of room on your platter for all of the delicious things you will have for Christmas supper.

Had the same thing happen here. All the cat's ignored the bed I bought so I put it in storage (upstairs, unused bedroom). About a year or more later, my husband found it and brought it out again and this time around Spot (a cat) claimed it and won't let anyone else near it. (we have 5 cats)

I just took this a few weeks ago while visiting my mother in Illinois. This is the view from her deck.

It's the Christmas monkey! Last night we went to a local church to look at their Christmas light display. While we were sitting in traffic, we noticed the car in front of us had a monkey in it. I think we had more fun watching everyone's reaction to "there's a monkey in that car" than we did the Christmas lights. (although the light display was pretty good, too)

I didn't necessarily mean that you should post more pictures of a rock.

It's Art now JB, it is no longer a rock. I released what was once held captive by a thick layer of hideous rock, for the world to see. Inside was a thin person just screaming to get out. (Oprah, 1994)

Here are a few of my armor models. Building them keeps me sane sometimes.
Tiger I, 21st. Panzer Division, Normandy, 1944.

Stg. III, Southern Russia, 1942.

I looked at a lot of pictures for this one to make the extras like the cleaning kit on the side and all the crap on the rear. The dust is a brown hair net that looks much better than in this picture and all the plants are real.

Tiger I, 1st Tiger Battalion 504, Afrika Korp, 1943.
This one I detailed to the max.

First off, the weird post wasn't about DMS, it was some sort of glitch (JB gets his keyboard ready to pounce on me for being a dumbshit).
Yeah, I've got U.S. WWII, Korean War, and modern aircraft. I've got two closets full of models that I'll never get built. I've got a 1/32 scale Messerschmitt 109 that I want to convert into a Schneider Cup Racer. Those were racing seaplanes during the 30s. The 109 lends itself naturally to the shape but I have to scratch build the floats. :(
I'll make it Guards Red with gold leaf Messerschmitt company lettering on the body. :D

Oh...I've got a made up armored command vehicle that's part Bradley and the rest I made up from the shape of the Panther tank. I don't know if I have any pictures of it but I'll get some.

Pete,

My congratulations on the model work. As much as I love building them, I could never make them look that good.

Nice work.

Thanks very much, it takes tons of patience. I'm real picky when it comes to making things. If I had a digital camera of my own, I would have shown the wingnuts I cut from brass sheet that are on the tool hold-downs.
The tow cables are the ground wires found in shielded cables. I make my own rust paint out of rust dust and flat clear lacquer. It actually reddens as time goes by.
Here is the card that goes with the Afrika Korp tank. All my armor have this type of information card.
