View Full Version : American Idol - Australian Idol
I am totally hooked on American Idol.
The 2nd one was so much better than the first. They are currently doing auditions for American Idol 3. You have to be age 16-24, so unfortunately that leaves me out. hehehe
I know some of you started watching Australian Idol and I would love to hear what you think about it. Are there any talented people? Do you get to phone in votes? Have they narrowed it down to a final 10 people yet?
Do you have a web link for Australian Idol info?
Thanks! :)

Thanks, Sti, but I already found it and have watched all the audition clips, etc.
I don't know why I asked that question. Just being silly, I guess.
As if I don't know how to use the "Search" feature on my computer. :alien:
The host is a cutie.

Hi Tex.
Aussie Idol - tonight's episode narrowed the field to the Top 40. Tomorrow they have a special ep on to let us meet each of the Top 40 and show us how they got to this place. Should be interesting. They're are some real talents amongst this lot, it should be great to watch the process unfold. We have a drag queen in the Top 40! We have a few young ones there and a few older ones, but mostly early 20's I'd say.
Yep, Andrew is a hottie! Apparently when he was younger he was told by an agent he was too heavy to make it as an actor, so he lost heaps of weight and has gone on to make something of himself. Good for him!
Have your previous winners of American Idol folded or are they still floating about?

They're still floating about. (Like turds in a toilet)
Don't listen to JDub. He's just being a butthead.
The first Idol winner is still high on the Billboard charts. Her album went platinum after 5 weeks. (sold over a million copies).
The last winner hasn't released an album yet - it should be out this month. The person that came in 2nd had much better sales than the winner did on the singles they released.
I almost forgot this part.
I think Brandon on Australian Idol has a really good voice. It will be interesting to see how far he gets.

Starting this Sunday night, Australian Idol will have 8 performers having a go and we get to vote for our favourite - which in turn, I assume means the least favourite will get voted out. We find out on Monday night who gets kicked out. It goes until Nov. so it's a long drawn out process, I hope people can stay interested long enough to watch the whole thing.
Was American Idol that drawn out, over many months???

GB..didn't realize it runs for so long. It's a good thing they have it on in the winter, I tend to watch tv on winter nights but rarely in the summer...so this will see me thro till the warmer weather...there's not much else on worth watching anyway.
So far I think the guys are better than the girls.
I never know what's on tv...got the sunday paper the other day just for the tv guide coz I keep missing good stuff on sbs. (am taping Chiefs at the moment...excellent show).
Yes, ladies, American Idol is drawn out over a period of time. The anticipation increases with each week's passing. (it's better that way!)
They had 10 finalists in the first Idol, but 12 finalists this time. It took about 4 or 5 episodes to get to the final 12, then the contestants perform in front of a live studio audience every Tuesday night as America watches on TV. Then, America votes via phone calls or text messaging for 2 hours after the show ends. Each Wednesday night is the Results Show where we learn which person didn't make it through to the next round. One person is eliminated each week and the last one standing is the American Idol.
That's about 16 weeks. Makes sense to me that it will last until November.
Here is the link if you want to read more about it.
http://www.idolonfox.com/home.htm
I must add that the first American Idol show was extremely cheesy. They toned it down a bit for the 2nd season and hopefully will tone it down a little more for the 3rd.
I didn't like how much time they spent showing us the auditions of the really bad performers and freaks.
The best way to watch it is to record it, then fast forward through the B.S. to the performances and the judges' comments.
Enjoy! :)

Hey Tex..what exactly do you mean by "cheesey".?
Mostly they were just rude to the try hards who really sucked...it was rather merciless..and I hate to admit it, but it was funny....I mean really, wtf were some of those people thinking...did they really think they sounded good??..some of them were just awful...so at least now they have been told the real truth...one bullet.
I think the corny (cheesey?) stuff will set in now they have narrowed the field...tho generally Australia doesn't go the whole hog on the corny stuff.
I don't like all of them even tho they have good voices..it really shits me when they try to show their entire vocal range every second word they sing (ala Mariah Carey)...good voice or not it's just shitful.

BF, that was exactly what I was thinking - but I couldn't think of Mariah's name - YEAH - I really hate that wobbly thing they do with their voice, it really pains me! I like the cutie who tends to pigs, he is what Australia needs - not some boy-band type! He has a great voice..... luv to hear him do a Denver tune! mmmm

bearfoot..... the cheesey part of American Idol was from sophomoric jokes by the host and the way he interacts with the audience, and just goofy film clips of the contestants playing around in some sort of theme scene. Ford sponsors the show, so they tape the contestants doing things like singing the song Car Wash while washing cars. It's just real cheesey the way it is edited.
If you can overlook that part, the singing is awesome. It is interesting to see how each individual develops each week by improving their "look", song choice, voice range, stage performance. I find myself really pulling for them to do well and then shamelessly wanting the ones that suck to get voted off "NOW". hehehe. I'm looking forward to American Idol 3.
You know..... I used to look forward to going out to drink beer and play pool after work. Now, I am happy to go home and watch American Idol. ;) (I still go to happy hours....I'm not that much of a homebody. I just don't do it on American Idol night).

'Cheesey TV'
So far we've mostly just seen the panel of 3 judges watching the singers do their thing..with a little of Andrew G and some other dude yapping with the contestants..it's all pretty light hearted stuff. (they showed a few of them outside singing 'you're an arsehole' for one of the judges). Will have to see how it goes once the real show starts on Monday (it is Monday isn't it?).
Basically Australian TV isn't big on the cheesey (ie: corny) stuff...we would turn off in droves and they know it. We get alot of American TV here and yeah...your TV is way cheesier than ours...even things like the Oscars...so over rehearsed...our TV is alot more natural and adlib than yours...it has more of a 'everyone knows everyone so don't try to bullshit me' feel to it.
I saw a few shows of Americas Funniest Home Videos on cable...man, that was so fucking corny it made me cringe...(actually our version of it is pretty dam bad too) anyway, perhaps the American TV dudes should come over here and see our laid back tv style.
for your sake, I'm happy to hear that yours isn't as cheesey as ours.
It's still worth the time to watch the performances....just go make a drink or check on the chicken or go potty when it gets to the cheesey moments.

What does everyone think of our first 2 entrants into the Top 10? I felt for sure when it came down to Lorena and Peter that Lorena was gonna go in - but it turned out to be Peter hands down apparently. He actually polled the most votes out of anyone. Good for him. He does have a lovely voice and he seems like a sweetie. He's even had a major make-over.
I didn't think Daniel deserved to be in tho - he's a little too "boy bandish" for my liking. I think it's gonna prove to show us that mostly teenage girls will be voting during this show and we may end up with mostly guys in the Top 10....
I really liked Eli and I was hoping she would get in. Did anyone else have a favourite who they think should have stayed?

Dang..I forgot to watch it last night...I'm just so hopeless at following anything on TV. Was going to ask who won but it sounds like Peter and Daniel (was Daniel the cute looking blonde guy who Dicko baked for singing an old fashioned song?).
Yeah Peter has a great voice..amazing that he's untrained. GB, I liked Eli too...she was pretty cool up there and her voice was good to, rather unusual....plus she didn't do the vocal rollercoaster thing. Would rather have seen Eli or Shannon get it than Daniel.

08-17-03, 06:10 AM
So, who do you think should go thru this week???
Will another Daniel clone get thru - a la the last guy who performed (he was so memorable I can't think of his name!).
I liked Axle - he's cute, plus he's different and doesn't take himself too seriously.
Most of the women I found ordinary, especially the young chickie. I didn't mind the Italian girl, Cosimo is it, with the eyebrow problem (according to dicko anyways). The girl who sang from The Lion King was quite fine too. Apart from that, I didn't see too many stand-outs.
It will be interesting to see who the public votes for this week.
OH, the rock chick - Kelly - she and Axle would be my choices to get thru. I nearly forgot about her, she was great.
I wish I could see more than a 10 second clip of them singing, but after seeing what I could of Group 1, Eli was my absolute favorite.
Daniel and Peter were next in line for my favorites of Group 1.
I would have liked to hear Chelsea sing without doing all that screamy stuff at the end.
Group 2: Cosima has such a strong voice. She stood out the most for me. Do you agree with Dicko's comments that she needs to "Sort the eyebrows out"?
Hailey has huge potential. She has a great voice, but seemed hesitant to just let it out at times.
I want to see Marc perform more. 10 seconds wasn't enough.

08-17-03, 11:44 AM
I thought they were a rather unimpressive bunch tonight. They only voice that really grabbed me was Cosimo of the catipillar brows...yeah, Dicko is right really...her brows are fine for real life, but for a pop idol I think she should refine her look.
Agree GB. Axle is rather cute...and he's differnet too...his unique compared with the others.
OK...so Cosimo and Axle get my vote.
Tex...I thought Eli should have got in too...bumma!
Eli didn't get in?? bummer.
Will you list the name of the ones that did?

Each Sunday 8 of them get to sing part of a song..then the public vote and we find out the next night which 2 get to stay in.
Last week Peter and Daniel got in (that was when Eli got out).
This weeks we find out tonight.....will keep you posted.
So far the show is cheese free....they have 2 dudes (one is Andrew) sitting on a couch having a yak with the contestant..then they show a bit of vidoe of the person getting ready for their performance..then they sing in front of the 3 judges..then they come back and sit on the couch for a yak again. It's rather informal and relaxed and seems fairly unscripted...which is good.

Somehow, I don't think the majority of us are going to actually enjoy the eventual winner out of this whole thing. It's gonna play out the same way every week - it will prove that only young girls are doing the majority of voting, with guys like Daniel and Matt getting in each week. Super talents like Eli and Axle are gonna fall by the way side cos their too cool for the Aussie population (well, the 9-15 year olds anyways). Matt was about the most uninspiring of all lastnight's contestants, and here he is - thru to the top 10.
I'm okay with Kelly getting thru, at least she was different - the rock chick as they labelled her. I thought Cosimo would get thru, but there you go.
Hopefully I won't be able to sit here after the Sunday night show and predict who the next boy-next-door boy band singer will get thru each week! UGH.

well my take on it is that this dicko guy, it seems the more shit he puts on a performer, the more likely the aussie public are gonna vote for that person. kinda like they just wanna prove the idiot wrong..you know what i mean? last week he said he hated daniels song, and daniel got in. this week he said almost the same thing about matt, and HE got in too!!! too much of a coincidence to me. thats what i hate about these stupid mean mouthed hasbeen judges....the whole thing just isnt gonna be fair. and yeah, cosimo should have DEFINITELY got in!!!

SB, Ian Dicko Dickson pretty well admitted on telly last week that the maker of Aussie Idol asked him to play the heavy. He is just obnoxious, and I don't think he has to try that hard....
Marcia Hines is lovely - you can tell that she really is into finding the great talent that is obviously out there. She could never be mean, she is honest but not in a mean way.
Mark Holden pretty well says what he thinks and sometimes his big mouth gets the better of him, but he's not that mean - but I'm a bit biased, you know I was in love with him many moons ago! I still play his best of CD - YES HE DID HAVE ONE!!! LOL
And I think you may be right Gyps - that seems to be how it's playing out doesn't it??? B-O-R-I-N-G. We're gonna end up with 10 Matt/Daniel types. UGH....

I know exactly what you mean. We experienced the whole "pitty vote" thing with American Idol. It's sad, really. On the first AI, there was a girl, Tamyra Gray, who is in the same talent caliper as Whitney, Celine, and Mariah. She was always poised, on key, and downright awesome! I guess people figured she was a shoe-in, so she ended up getting voted out while the rocker chick, Nikki, who sang 60% of her notes off key got to stay. Our equivalent to Dicko is a Brit named Simon and he was very hard on Nikki (as she deserved), but I think America felt sorry for her and voted for her.
Well.....everything works out in the end. Tamyra got a recording contract and a role on a prime time series called Boston Public.
I've never heard anything in the media about Nikki since American Idol ended.

Don't give up yet greenbelt!!
Look at the 2 top contestants from American Idol 2.
America voted more on talent vs image the second time around.
Here is the winner, Ruben Studdard:
Second place was Clay Aiken whose single sold better than the winner of AI.
Clay's "look" improved throughout the show:
Ok, just one more.....
and I highly recommend the Clay Aiken version of Unchained Melody (the long version may be listed on the net under "Clay Aikens" with an "s")
Both these guys are incredibly talented and as much as I loved the winner from American Idol 1 (Kelly Clarkson), these guys have better voices.

Peter Ryan is gonna be our great white hope and have a huge makeover as well! He already lost a heap of weight, took the John Denver glasses off, bought heaps of new clothes and went to a "hair stylist"! He's serious about this gig and for sheer determination he deserves anything he gets out of it - did I mention he has an awesome voice as well.
If Peter got a shoe-in thru a sympathy vote, good luck to him cos I think he will prove in time that he deserved that second chance that Dicko afforded him.
I haven't given up yet Tex - I just hope that our final 10 is not filled with less talented performers and those who are getting in just thru "pulling" power with the youngsters at home. Gypsy is right, the more shit the judges throw, Aussies dig their heals in. I think their should be a better system on voting - don't know what exactly - but yeah, we don't need the stinkin' judges anyway.
I think the voting system should be similar to what a different show did on TV recently. You could only vote 5 times from the same phone number. That seems to make it a little more fair compared to the demographics of the people that are most likely to vote repeatedly for a solid 2 hours.
On the night of the finals when we voted for the winner, the phone lines were open for 3 hours. 4 members of my family tried to vote for the whole 3 hours, but the line was always busy. Only one person got through (4 times in 3 hours). It just seems more fair to have a limit on the number of times you can vote. Heck, they could even limit it to 1 call or 20 calls per phone number and that would be more fair than the current system.
What do you think about that?
(hehehe, Gyps....shocking isn't it)
Both of the top 2 American Idols from the 2nd season have been on the cover of The Rolling Stone. They both seem like genuinely "good" people, so they deserve all the goodness they receive.

BF, I was actually glad that Kelly (the rock chick) who sang thru nose got in - cos I couldn't stand it if 5,6 or 7 bloody Mariah's got in with all that wavering stuff they do with their voices - YUCKO.
At least she's a bit different from all the others. Like I said, that's why I wanted Axle to get in too, the different factor - not like 5, 6 or 7 Daniel's getting in on their good looks and spunk factor.
I think Tex is right - we need a different voting system. :)
How many finalists are left and who are your favorites?

08-24-03, 08:18 AM
Tex, we only have 4 out of our top 10 so far. Tomorrow night we will hear who will be number 5 and 6. And then we have another 2 weeks of 16 (broken down into 2 weeks of 8) vying for 7,8,9 and 10 spots.
I think tonight's selection of performers were far the best so far out of what we've seen. I didn't like Anthony (the big guy who cries) - I thought he sang badly. I agreed with Mark HOlden, we don't need another Daniel or Matt - so the cute boy band type has to go. I really like Yolande and the little 4'8" girlie - she has a huge voice for one so little! I liked the girl in the green top - I am so bad at remembering names (obviously).... Oh Shannon was the stand out one for me tonight, he was brilliant - if he doesn't get in, I'm outta there! Gyps, I felt sorry for her too - and the first girl as well, but I also tend to think Mark Holden is right - if she can't hack a bit of criticism and breaks down in tears, she obviously is not ready for the "big time". We all know the entertainment industry is built on more knock backs than success, you have to be tough and if you really believe in your own talent then you have to strong and surge ahead, and stuff what the Mark Holden's of the world have to say. Mark was also correct in having a go at her choice of song. That Cosima did a brilliant job of that song, the judges told her it was a bad choice too - and she didn't even make it in (after the judges told her she was the best in the comp) - Michelle should have learnt from that.
I thought Brielle did a nice job too but Mark said he wouldn't pay $10 to hear her sing either. I thought last night's batch were probably the worst I've seen so far - Cle was pretty good but I don't think she's mainstream enough to become the "idol".
The young girl, Lauren, she is so sweet but I don't know if she's gonna be strong enough to cope! I hope she gets thru tho tonight. I don't know about the other place, I guess I don't care, none of them did much for me.

your right jannine, i didnt think last nights bunch were as good as all the others, but i think it was the judges being so mean that put all the singers off course. the first and last singers i thought were the best..
Mark Holden has been unnecessarily mean throughout the series, whereas I think Ian "Dicko" Dickson tends to use insults purely for the shock value & impending ratings. I think Marcia is gorgeous - such a softie. She always manages to get her point across using tact & dignity - not mindless insults.
I did feel sorry for the girl last night, but in all fairness, her rendition of "My Heart Will Go Onb" wasn't the best (said using tact!):D, & the judges can't lie & say it was fabulous. You have to be very strong to be a part of the media unfortunately, or the industry will destroy you. If the poor girl can't handle some nerves before a performance, then she'd better get back to her day job.

Last nights show was a classic...the acts were mediocre (except for the guy with the black hair and goatie type deal)) and the male judges were total bastards...lol....was Mark Holden pre-menstrual or what.!! Ah, it's just a 2003 talent quest, no different to Pot of Gold years ago..anyone remember Bernard King tearing the acts to bits. Yeah, I feel sorry for them but they know going in that the judges will be ruthless. Basically as a rule of thumb in life, I subscribe to the thought that......if your arse looks fat someone should tell ya.
And since I'm being a bitch here...I suppose Mark Holden might be a successful producer or something like that...but I can't get past him singing that awful song, wearing that ghastly white suit and handing out roses....soooo corny....he is a bad talent expert because he is one.
*sorry GB :hehe: ..... but yuk!
The judges are of course playing the roles they were hired to play.
Dicko is Dick Dastardly...he twirls his moustache and ties the acts to the railway track.
Marcia is the good witch Glenda .. she sheds fairy dust and tears to make everyone feel good.
Mark Holden is just there in his capacity as a card carrying dag....and why Mark Holden???...I'll bet he has a financial interest in the show.
THUMBS DOWN!!! Bring on the next group of christians...;)

You crack me up Bearfoot!!! :D
I'm just glad Michelle (the crying girl) didn't get the sympathy vote cos she was really bad and that's what matters.
I think Mary (the first girl they bagged) did okay but she still wasn't world class (mind you, I don't think any of our performers have shown that yet)....
I think our young Lauren that got through has the talent but not the attitude - she appears awkward, gawky and shy and I don't see her grabbing the media spotlight. Just my opinion. She can sing and obviously if her confidence grows, she will shine. Let's hope so.
I agree the judges are paid to do what they're doing -it's all pretty obvious. I read a recent article that pitched Dicko and Mark against each other professionally as well - although Dicko did say that after listening to a bunch of songs that Mark had written, that he wished he could say they were crap but they were not, they were actually good - so there!!! LOL
Bearfoot - I know you can't stand Mark, but please have a listen to: Let Me Love You Once Before You Go and Where Are You Girl - I think these are both fabulous songs.

Hey GB....it's not that I can't stand him....but going by that white suit thing he's hardly the one to be hypercritical of others in regard to the presentation of their performance. Yeah he may write decent songs...the problem is the mental imagine I have of him doing the rose thing.....what a soft c*ck....lol..jeez, can I say that here?? ;) :hehe:
Too bad Costa & Levi got the boot. I agree about Lauren...and for the record I hated her rendition of Imagine, this judge just didn't beleive that she really could imagine, she didn't make me imagine....lame....but I like what she's done in the past.
My vote is to Shannon to win...he has something the others just haven't got...so far, have to wait and see with the rest.

Well, if they weren't the most uninspiring bunch of hopefuls, I'll eat my hat!
None of them, not one really did much for me tonight. That drag queen can't sing - she has fantastic legs, but you can't sell a million CDs with just that going for you, can you??? I doubt very much she/he will get thru, I don't think Aus is ready for a drag Australian Idol!
The guy with the Tom Jones voice was okay, but like Dicko said, he's one dimensional.
The cute one at the end did okay, he was appealing enough but whether he's our Idol, I doubt it - but he'll get thru on personality and looks alone.
The blonde girl who sang "While I'm Sleeping" was fine - she would be one of my picks I guess.
I seriously doubt we met our No. 1 Idol in that lot tonight. I'll be watching tomorrow night (and taping it of course) to see who gets thru and then we're into the serious stuff and we get to see all those from weeks ago, like Peter who I'm looking forward to hearing again and Shannon - who is my pick for No. 1 Idol so far.
Anyone else wanna make a prediction at this time????

well my fave was cosimo and i still say will someone please get rid of mark holden as a judge...the guy hasnt a clue!:what:
I heard a few seconds of Alex singing "While You Were Sleeping" and she had a great voice.
Courtney, the drag queen was an interesting sight. I loved Dicko's reference to "if you've got the balls to do it" and Courtney's reference to it having to do with her "package".

Is your censorship more relaxed than the U.S. for TV viewing?
ALERT: OFF TOPIC QUESTION *
greenbelt
09-08-03, 03:23 AM
Depending on the time of day Tex. If it is in children's viewing times, our censorship is quite tight. We have a female tv presenter named Denise Drysdale, she was once sacked from a kid's tv show for saying shit on a Saturday morning!
In prime time - I think from 9.00pm onwards, we can have shows that have swearing, nudity, violence etc. but there is a header at the top of the show warning of such elements. On most talkshows they will run the warning if they think it's possible that there may be some swearing. Sometimes if a movie is particularly bad, they will put it on at 9.30pm rather than 8.30pm so they don't have to edit it quite so much.
This drag queen lastnight was wearing underwear, but she was wearing a VERY short dress and cross her legs rather provocatively - but she obviously got away with it because she's a drag queen - not the real deal, and because the show goes to air live!

I thought Anton has a beautiful voice, probably the best of all of them so far.
So tonight Rob and Paulini got in. Yeah, Paulini can sing but she's so boring yyawwnnn.
Can't say Rob in particularly handsome but he has a wicked grin which gives away his fun personality....I also thought he did that song really well, judges said he hasn't got a good voice but I thought he sounded excellent.
Courtney Act....she's not a drag queen, she's a "gender illussionist'...and the quick flash was a classic huh.
Tex, we Australians don't take our tv too seriously, the humorous side is always appreciated. As GB says, when it comes to late night viewing it pretty raunchys...as long as the warning is up before the show...like we can say fuck on tv here but I don't think you can can..can you? We also have full frontal nudity too. We have a channel here called SBS..they show alot of European stuff that probably classifies as soft core porn.

I can't understand the judges giving one of the "second chance" spots to Courtney - I know she came third and all, which means she received a considerable amount of votes, but she isn't Idol material! Her voice isn't that strong and the judges themselves keep saying its all about selling CDs and I don't think the majority of the Aus population will take to her act.... I think they seriously wasted a second chance spot on her. I know they gave Stu a second chance, determined to see if he can do something else besides sounding like TOm Jones or Jimmy Barnes and I hope he lets em have it both barrels, just to prove them wrong.
I know they will give Cosima a second chance and if she performs well, they will automatically choose her as a Top 12 finalist - cos they all loved her and said it was a crime that she didn't make it thru in the first place.
Back to that other subject - BF you were talking about full frontal nudity - which reminded me of Queen Latifah today on Cable TV, they had models in underwear and it was pretty obvious that they couldn't show a g-string from behind - which amazed me! The stuff you see on American TV, the fights, the violence, the swearing etc., but don't dare to show a g-string!
It reminds me of Days of Our Lives too - they are all so corrupt on that show, they sleep around, have kids out of wedlock, they get possessed by Satan, they kill, they rape, they steal, they plot, they scheme - everything - but they are all so Christian in their beliefs - they pray to God everytime something goes wrong, which just makes me laugh really hard!
Sorry to get way off topic - just thoughts running thru my pea-sized brain!

No frontal nudity on prime time here.....only on special cable channels like HBO, Showtime, or Cinamax, fondly known as Skinamax. Did Yolande get voted through? I would love to hear her sing more. The few seconds I get off the web site aren't enough.
I enjoyed Rob's performance. Would like to hear more of him, too.
I loved Courtney - thought she was fantastic! I disagree with GB saying that she "isn't idol material" - just because she is different doesn't mean that she couldn't sell albums. It would be fantastic to see someone who is being true to themselves ( no matter how outrageous that self may be) get up & win the thing. All power to her for having a go. I hope she walks away with it - I certainly know who I'll be voting for!:D
Tex - no Yolande didn't get through. Unless she is brought back for a second try that is. Could be a possibility - I remember Mark Holden in particular was a fan!

Chuka, if you have watched every week, you will have heard the judges commenting to participants that they were not Idol material - not good enough, not whatever enough! I didn't say Courtney wouldn't win because he/she is "different" - I said I believe she doesn't have a good, strong voice and to me, being the "Idol" should mean you are capable of singing - Courtney Act is an Act - and she is very good at what she does - but can you seriously say that if she were to put on a concert that thousands of people would go (apart from the gay community that she is widely known in, in Sydney).
They've said all along that this comp is about selling CD's and lots of them - and to me, Courtney does not have the appeal that some of the other performers have. It's like Stu Campbell, they don't think he's got the range to appeal to a broader audience, their giving him a second chance also.... same scenario but nothing to do with being a gender illusionist. :D
Hey Chuka! Great to see ya posting.

That's exactly how I see it Gyps. I think Courtney/Shane is a great act - for what she does - and I know there's a market for it, I just don't think that market is the Australian Idol competition. I personally do not think Shane or Courtney are very good singers - and Shane did not pass his audition as Shane so the judges agreed with that too.
The Australian Idol has to appeal to the masses and they have to be able to sell a million CDs and be versatile - not pigeonholed as a drag queen with great legs - no matter how gorgeous her legs are! LOL

yeah gb, just goes to prove how pathetic these judges really are...except for marcia of course:)
Sorry guys - I totally see where you're coming from, but I still maintain my point.
Courtney may not have the voice of Celine Dion, but she is a character. I adore people who get up & push some boundaries. I would love to see her win because she is DIFFERENT. GB, you underestimate the Australian public by saying that she wouldn't sell tickets or records. Basically, her act is about FUN, & that's what most people are looking for. Eg.Kylie Minogue doesn't have the greatest voice - she is all about dance, getting up & having a go. I could name a dozen more.
Go Courtney - I know who I'll be voting for!:D
Love Chuka;)
greenbelt
09-10-03, 10:39 PM
Chuka - the only problem with that is that the "Australian Public" that will count in this competition is probably young girls aged between 10 and 16 and they are not going to vote for Courtney - it will be some cutesy boy-group type dude that will win for that very reason - irrespective of what either of us feels about Courtney! The concert-goers are the same group of people and therefore the tickets and/or CDs won't be bought by what you perceive as the "Australian public".
If I'm wrong Chuka, I will be the first one here to say so to you!
:D
Oh, and I disagree, I believe Kylie is a great performer and I like her voice - but mostly I think Kylie has grown with Australia - originally she was liked by teeny-boppers and the like, but as she has matured, so has her audience - she's a sex bomb now and that pretty well covers the male population between 8 and 98!!!
OK, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree here darl. I've had a shocking day & I honestly don't have the energy to argue! I'm just holding out for 5pm!LOL:hehe:

I'm sure Bon Scott will be churning in his grave after Courtney's performance tonight, but I'm sure Chuka will be having sweet dreams!!! LOL
My argument about Courtney is still the same, I won't bore you and go there again.
I felt so bad for Liban - but they did ask him back, and as Dicko said, a huge mistake! He sounded awful, he looked like he was in pain, he forgot the bloody words, you couldn't understand what he was singing and the band drowned him out - mmmmm, great talent that one! I know he did a lovely song in his native tongue during the audition but let's face it, that wasn't good enough and Mark should have kept his mouth shut!
(I just hope the Aus public don't give him the bloody sympathy vote, that would be way embarrassing, for us and him)...
Axle is so gorgeous but he looked and sang like a big wimp tonight, totally disheartened by his performance tonight.
I loved Cossima and I hope she gets thru, I really wanna see her perform again - she is soooo good. I liked Bek and I like Yolande too but didn't think much of the rest. I don't know why they rave about Levi - yeah, he's cute and all, but I don't think he's the best singer I've heard and that bloody chick at the end, in the red dress - Rebecca was it, she was truly woeful! I couldn't hear her and when I could, I couldn't understand her. Dicko was right and Mark was just there for the perve, as usual. LOL.
So, who do you guys think should go thru with the other Top 10?
I will say Cossima and Bek.

LOL Gyps, I actually knew that, but it didn't fit with my line about him churning in his grave (I just wanted to make Chuka mad!)....
BF, I know Courtney is a great performer and yes, she's totally gorgeous and I'm sure guys, gay and straight would fall for her in a second but I still don't think she cuts it as a "singer" and most of the time the judges single out the performer's voices and what is wrong with them - with her they don't look past her legs and how she throws them about!

Anyone who says Courtney's performance wasn't fantastic last night was obviously watching a different show to me. From the moment she walked out onstage, she OWNED it, in fact she owned the entire studio for the few minutes that she was performing.
Sure - she may not have the best voice in the competition (Cosima wins hands down there) but the fact is Courtney is entertaining because she is just being true to herself & going for it. I felt so proud when I saw that performance tonight.
Rebecca (the one in the red dress) was simply AWFUL!! I couldn't believe it. She really needs a choreographer! Levi was OK I guess, but as someone who cannot stand R&B/Rap I would be really cranky if he got through. Liban - shocking. The only reason he was brought back was because he looks like Craig David. Yolande was great - she's fantastic to look at & has talent in spades. Cosima was the stand out, but everytime I look at her I think Celine Dion. Ew... I honest cannot see what others do in Bek. I thought her performance was boring as batsh!t, but the judges seemed to like it, so yawn.
I have no idea who will make it through the viewer votes tonight, but the judges will resurrect Cosima without a doubt - they're unanimous about her talent.
You all know who I voted for!:D

When you buy a CD you have only the performer's voice, interpretation and delivery of a song to go by. You do not get to watch them "perform" and see their very long sexy legs and outrageous antics and awesome get-ups.... that is why Courtney should not be the Aus Idol - by the judges definition of what sells CDs.
I know Chuka - you're screaming at me - LOL - but hey, I luv you anyways.
:hehe:
Well if Britney Spears, who let's just say isn't the most talented singer in the world, can sell albums without relying on visuals, I'm sure Courtney could have a damn good crack at it too. I know I'd buy a Courtney CD quicker than I would a Britney one!:)

Osama and The Genie - July 25, 2002 (1)
While trying to escape through Pakistan, Osama Bin Laden found a bottle in a cave and picked it up. Suddenly, a female genie rose from the bottle and with a smile said "Master, may I grant you one wish?"
"You ignorant unworthy daughter-of-a-dog! Don't you know who I am? I don't need any common woman giving me anything" barked Bin Laden.
The shocked genie said "Please, I must grant you a wish or I will be returned to that bottle forever."
Osama thought a moment. Then grumbled about the impertinence of the woman, and said "Very well, I want to awaken with three white women in my bed in the morning, so just do it and be off with you!"
The annoyed genie said, "So be it !" and disappeared.
The next morning Bin Laden woke up in bed with Lorena Bobbitt, Tonya Harding and Hillary Clinton. His penis was gone, his knee was broken, and he had no health insurance.
God is good.

I've just had a look at the Wildcards.
Cosima was my favorite.
Bek was really good.

I am wondering tho what if Courtney was a real female...would they they still think she was so fabulous or would they be more critical of her voice?....would they critisize her rather trashy look?
Whatever, she's great...I hope Shannon or Courtney win.

I was rapt for Cossima and I knew the judges would choose her and Bek was good too. I liked her more tonight than I did last night.
In the beginning I did say that I didn't think Aus was ready to accept a drag queen (gender illusionist) as our Aus Idol - but judging by her constantly being in the top 3, I have been wrong. I stand by my argument about her voice not being good enough and I have always said she is a great performer. Sadly, it isn't to be.
So, anyone wanna have a guess out of the Top 12 chosen???

Gyps, they never said whether Cossima was in the public's Top3 - although I assume she was. When it came to the public 3, I assume they went to the next 3 highest vote getters, Levi, Bek and Courtney. They said Bek received the highest amount of votes from the public but didn't mention if Cossima was figured in that equation or not. I guess we'll never know.

I was really disappointed for Courtney - as Gyps said, she's entertaining & makes everyone wonder what she's going to do next. I'd love to see her do a Marilyn Monroe song!LOL:D
I couldn't believe Levi got in, he was SO boring. I hate that kind of music too Jannine. Ah well. I'm going for the rock chick now that Courtney's out of it (forgotten her name, but she did get into the top 12, Kelly??). I love women with attitude!:D

Yeah, I forgot about Kelly the rock chick, she has some serious attitude Chuka and I really liked her. She will do well I reckon.
I think it will all come down to the choice of material that the finalists choose, obviously they can all sing to varying degrees, but the choice of material will be way important when it comes to voting time.

"Song choice is everything" ???
Do they say that on Australian Idol like they did on American Idol? I believe it's true, but some of the song choices the judges criticized were well-liked by the audience (including my family and friends.)

Tex, the judges have been quite consistent with their comments about song choice - but haven't used a particular phrase or anything.
Dicko doesn't like the young cute guys doing old slow stuff for some reason - he says it will get them the G vote, gays, girls and grannies! LOL
I think it's up to the individual, if a song has particular meaning to a performer they will perform it better, put more feeling into it. You can't go out and just perform a popular song because you think it will score you votes.
I can't wait to hear what Peter Ryan is gonna sing in the final series - I really like him and his style. I'm looking forward to Shannon's choices as well.

Okay, so the finals begin tonight! YAY.
It's gonna be a 70's extravaganza! I wonder if anyone will dare to sing a Mark Holden song! hehehehehehe
Tex, did American Idol do theme shows during the finals?
I wonder how the finalists will go at the Grand Final next week - I reckon Millsy will be pretty nervous!
Forgot to mention that Daniel guy being kicked out of the final 12 - how weird was that! Surely they should've known he had a record deal previously..... it was all pretty strange.
We had the guy who did some publicity and got kicked out, and now Daniel with his existing record deal - Tex, did anything untoward happen during your shows???
GB,
When the American Idols got to the finals, there was a theme each week. It was either an era or songs written by a certain songwriter, etc.
To answer your other question......yes, there were a couple of people banned from the contest. One had some kind of pending assault charges and the other had some "internet exposure" that wasn't acceptable to the image they wanted for the American Idol.

Okay, first final over with.
I actually took notes tonight guys!!!
Levi (Superstitious) - I personally thought he was very ordinary but he's not my type of singer, he really doesn't do much for me, so I'd be interested to see what you guys think.
Lauren (Moondance) - She was soooo nervous and it showed in her performance. She didn't have the camera working for her at all tonight, she looked like a scared little kid. It was definitely not her best performance.
Matt (If A Picture Paints a 1000 Words) - I am a huge Bread fan and there are so many Bread songs he could have sung that were'nt so wimpy. Dicko was right, it was poncy! LOL He has an okay voice but he doesn't get me going at all. ACtually, I was ready not to like him before he even started, and I found him boring.... What did you guys think?
Bek (Emotions) is like Levi, her style is not the style I prefer listening to, but I think she did well. She looked absolutely gorgeous but she also looked scared. I think she was disappointed in her own performance.
Millsy - Rob (All Right Now) - WOW - he did awesome. He really owned the stage tonight and he had the audience in. He is so cool and so comfortable with who he is - such a larakin. I really liked him tonight, it's the best I've heard him sound.
Cosima (Hot Stuff) - Wahoo! She was downright sexy tonight. That little skirt she was wearing and that hip movement really had the audience in! She did so well. She has such a strong voice and I think she can sing anything. You could tell she loved performing. She was great.
Peter (Your Song) - I actually got interrupted whilst Peter was performing, so I didn't get to hear all of him (bloody husbands)! What I did hear was nice, clear, charming (as always) and he is my kind of performer. He seems like such a sweetie, you have to like him.
Cle (Young Hearts Run Free) - I never did like that song but she did really well with it. She's another one who is really comfortable in her skin and she really commands the stage. I liked her tonight, whereas I haven't much in the past.
Guy (Jackson 5 Song, didn't catch the title, not one I remember). Again, not my kind of thing but he seemed to enjoy himself. He seemed confident and stylish and he had the audience going.
Kelly (Whole Lotta Love) - rock chick!!! She loves who she is and she is so pretty - I hadn't noticed that before - she did well.
Shannon (Help Is On Its Way) - YAY. Still gorgeous, still singing beautifully, still down to earth. What's not to like. He didn't disappoint me tonight and like Mark said, he already has a huge future, no matter what happens with Aus Idol. I'd buy his CD's.
Paulini (Don't Leave Me This Way) - Well, I hadn't seen the appeal in Paulini before, she did nothing for me but tonight she blew me away. She looked awesome - so different to previous performances and she finally looked comfortable. It was great to see her do something up tempo. She was groovy!
Okay, so this week my vote goes to Cosima, with Shannon coming a close second.
If I had to vote off 2 on tonight's performances - I would let go Lauren and Levi. Sorry guys.
Look forward to your feelings guys.

yep, have to agree with you gb. cosmia was my pick for tonite and i rang up and voted for her. hot stuff is one of my fav songs from the 70s. i didnt think bec did well at all. she looked absolutely miserable up there. tend to agree with dicko on the rock chick kelly, she needs to move around more, and she also looked too much like some singer but i don;t know who. if i had to pick 2 to go it would be lauren and rebecca. and wth was that guy thinking singing that jackson 5 song that nobody even seems to know?

LOL Gyps, that what I thought - couldn't Guy pick a song that we actually had heard of!!! Bloody hell, they had dozens of hits!
Kelly does look and move like someone I know - but I can't think who either!

Wow, what a huge night in TV. First Aus Idol - disappointed that Peter Ryan got voted off but I think he's happy to have made it that far. Good luck to him. I wasn't surprised by Matt going but I did feel bad for him. I think Kelly is counting her lucky stars tonight - I wonder if she thinks that she will automatically poll badly from here on in. ????
I think Lauren really thought she was out, and was sooo relieved to still be there. She better lift her game next week. They're singing number one hits next week - at least we might know the songs.
So, then I was supposed to do some work but I sucked into the Emmy's and watching the Bronlow count in between. A 3-way tie, that was exciting. I'm sure Eddie is wetting himself over Nathan being one of the winners. I was glad for the Swans player (Goode) who brought his mum with him, he seemed really sweet.
The Emmy's was a little on the boring side and no gratuitous shots of Brad Pitt sitting in the audience. Jen left her famous handbag at home tonight! Bummer.
I have to go type that psych report now. Night.

i started watching the emmys but it was so bloody boring i nodded off to sleep! glad though that raymond got lots of awards...i reckon the interfering mother plays a good part in that show. as for australian idol i can't believe lauren is still there. and whats with all the crying? reminds me of big bro when someone got evicted! talking about big bro i havent heard anything about anyone from there. whatever happened to daniel and the great career we all thought he was gonna have?
Personally, I wasn't a fan of Matt Chadwick's, but I was surprised that he was voted out, because when he was singing on Sunday night, all of the teeny boppers in the audience were going wild. I would have thought the female teenage viewer contingent would have got him through for sure.
And I don't know about you guys, but how boring is Mark Holden's vocab (or lack thereof) getting..."bing da bang da boom..." "You're mighty-mighty..." Give me a break!:what: Go back to primary school Holden. Groan...:idiot:

Another live show over with!
Cosima opened the Number One Hits Themed show with I Wanna Dance With Somebody! The judges were right, she stuck with the same sort of song that got her all that attention last week, but who could blame her! Didn't like her hair extensions! LOL She is fabulous and she will go on, she's a crowd pleaser.
Millsy was next with You Don't Treat Me No Good - What was with the sitting down at the beginning with his head down - YUK. Once he got into the song it was fine. He knows the crowd loves him - I just hope he doesn't become complacent - he wasn't as good as last week. I love his energy tho.
Paulini - Eternal Flame. What a brilliant song for her, she was quite fantastic I thought. She changed her look from last week, and her style of performance, showing how versatile she can be. Good for her, I'm liking her more and more each week. She appears to be very comfortable with herself.
Lauren was next singing a song I have NEVER liked, ever! (Lady Marmalade) and I like it even less after her performance. Where is the soulful young thing gone that appeared singing Imagine a few short weeks ago. She is nervous like a bunny caught in headlights and I'm over her. She was marginally better this week and she tried to be different, but she just isn't strong enough in my opinion.
Guy was up next (Everything I Do, I Do It For You). This is the most I have ever liked Guy, I thought he did the song beautifully, but I'm with Dicko, he didn't need to add all that lalalalala stuff that he does, he has a great voice as it is. He looked cute in his suit and I wondered if his voice was a bit husky from singing at the GF yesterday????
Kelly (rock chick) - mmmm, not liking Kel that much anymore. She seems the same every week, she only knows one movement and I don't think her style is far reaching. She performed Tomorrow by Silverchair and even tho I wasn't familiar with the song, she didn't make me want to hear it again either! I suppose she must have been nervous after coming in the last 3 last week, a bit shaky in places.
SHANNON - YAY. Singing What About You (Which has always been a favourite of mine) - he nailed it man! He was absolutely fabulous tonight and I'm not just saying that because he's my favourite, I think honestly he was the best by far tonight - as did everyone else. Even the judges gave him a standing ovation - all 3 of them! Brilliant.
Bek - mmmm, Killing Me Softly (Which could have been done last week too in the 70's themed week) - she is losing it! I think something is going on with her behind the scenes, they have alluded to problems but haven't said much more. I think she misses her kids and the strain is showing. She is shaky to say the least and I don't think she's gonna get too much further. She was marginally better than last week but she still seemed nervous, scared and not 100% confident in her ability. It was also very sad when Mark said he was disappointed in her and she said he could never be more disappointed in her than she was in herself!
Cle - That's The Way Love Goes - Janet Jackson song, but I won't hold that against her, she's obviously a fan. I hate all Jackson Music and performers! LOL She was a little on the boring side, but I blame that on the song! I think the crowd loves her anyway.
Levi -Rock Your Body - horrible song, horrible style, horrible music! I can't say if he's good or not, cos I just don't get that sort of music or style! The crowd seemed to like him so I'll judge him by them I guess. He doesn't do a thing for me and I just wish he'd sing something different so I can actually tell if he can sing. The judges are not being very consistent with Levi, they tell everyone else to stretch as a performer, but they're happy for him to strut the same crap week in week out. UGH.
Okay, so my bottom 3 are Bek, Lauren and Kelly this week. Out of them I want Lauren to stay - just to see if Imagine was a fluke or not.
I'll be voting for Shannon (1902 5555 67) - with Paulini and Guy as runner's up.
There appeared to be a lot of sick performers tonight, are they partying too hard, or working too hard I wonder! ????
What did every one else think???

09-28-03, 07:02 AM
well cosima is still my fav and i'm voting for her. she's awesome..i think lauren and bec need to go out of all of them. their both just too nervous to perform to their potentials, its not fair to the others to keep them in. paulini, she's my next fav after cosima. i was really taken back at cles performance...i hated the song, she could have done so much better...yeah, shannon was pretty good. i really want cosmia to win though!
oh and gb your right about the rock chick,,man, i just cannot stand the way she moves. its so boring and the same all the time
all the others were goood too!!!
COSIMA: Everyone knows that the girl has an awesome voice. However, I'm getting quite bored (and irritated) with her new 'image' - hated the hair extensions and the outfit - and the song just didn't do it for me; it didn't suit her voice as well as it could have. And was it just me or was Cosima's version a fair bit slower than the original? Either way, simply didn't love the performance and she could have done a lot better (please stop the hip wiggling, it's really old).
MILLSEY: What a charmer. He doesn't have the greatest voice in the world but he's going to go far in this competition riding solely on his charisma and cheeky grin. The song suited his voice and he's a good performer; however, I don't think it was the best that he could have done or can do.
PAULINI: Amazing. Cheesy song but it showed off her voice sooo well, and (sorry to be quoting Mark) she really made it her own and she hit those high notes like no one else in the competition would have been able to. Before tonight, I considered Cosima to be her fierce competition in terms of vocal ability, but now I'm convinced that Paulini is in a league of her own. Her voice is so pure and just absolutely stunning - and versatile, it suits all styles of music.
LAUREN: Much better than last week in terms of confidence on-stage; however, still didn't cut it. The song is hot and she's just not. The song is fun and she's just too intense - she simply doesn't have the attitude to pull it off. Also, she needs a new stylist (what is with the hair, woman?) and she needs a decent choreographer -scratch that, she needs some rhythm, full stop. Vocally, she was decent but still a bit flat in some places and certainly nothing outstanding (especially when compared to the likes of Paulini). Goodbye, Lauren. You should've left last week.
KELLY: Typical, predictable Kelly performance. She makes a good rock chick, her voice suits all the songs she chooses and she performed well, but whether or not it's good enough to get her through to the next round is a big question mark. Sadly, I doubt it.
GUY: Love him, love his voice, loved the song, loved the performance. He has a knack for making songs his own and he certainly did that tonight. However, I must kind of agree with Dicko in that the vocal gymnastics isn't always necessary nor suited to every song; Guy is great at all his frills and runs, but what I would love to see him do now is something nice and straight.
SHANNON: Fantastic. A brilliant choice of song and an equally brilliant delivery. He has a really lovely voice and it couldn't have suited the song better. Before tonight, for me, Shannon has always good without being great. Tonight he was awesome, sent shivers up my spine, engaged me in his performance completely.
BEK: Oh, Bek. Two weeks in a row. Without a doubt, she is a one-trick pony. Enough of the sad r&b ballads, Bek, they don't work for you any more. They don't work in front of a live audience, and they definitely don't work when you have a sore throat. My soft spot for Bek remains; however, I'm honestly not going to be surprised if she'll be leaving us tomorrow night.
CLE: Bad choice of song - required the bare minimal in terms of vocal ability and just wasn't a good number to do in front of a live
audience. The performance was competent - sexy without being cocky, therefore she didn't piss me off as much as she has in the past, but the choice of song will really let her down. If it weren't for her loyal fanbase, she would probably be in the bottom three.
LEVI: What a sexy, sexy dude. His voice wasn't up-to-scratch tonight (too much partying, apparently), but he didn't let that stop him - he worked the crowd with the best of what he had to offer and he did a great job in terms of performance (the boy can move and more importantly, the boy can move well!). Vocally, Justin Timberlake's range differs completely to his, therefore it probably wasn't the best song to do (note the especially low and high parts), but generally, well-executed. Won't be going home any time soon.
BOTTOM THREE: Lauren, Kelly and Bek.
TO BE ELIMINATED: hopefully Lauren and Kelly; more realistically, probably Kelly and Bek.
P.S: Greenbelt - the contestants didn't sing live at the AFL grand final, therefore Guy's voice certainly wasn't husky as a result of that performance. I think that most of them were suffering from colds and partying too much, as Marcia mentioned.

Hey there Kayti
OK, so I missed the first few....
Thought Guy was excellent, he's got a great voice...I like it when I hear someone do a cover better than the original.
Yeah, all the rest were good too but I have a thing for Shannon.
He's the whole package, got a great voice, style and he's sexy as....but the best thing about him is that he does it without effort..all the others seem to be trying..from the moment he gets on stage he's just switched on and it's something he just has rather than something he performs.....the guys got 'IT'.
greenbelt
09-28-03, 06:37 PM
BF, that's exactly what I've been thinking about Shannon - you nailed my thoughts exactly! He does it all without effort, he doesn't need to dress up, he doesn't need the cheeky smile, the sexy moves, the vocal gymnastics, it's all just there and he pulls it off so naturally. Off stage you can see the larrikin in him and he is just gorgeous to watch with his kids - I really hope Aus grabs Shannon with both hands and never lets go. I believe he has a huge future - I know I'd buy his stuff. He could do country, rock, rock/country or ballad stuff, he's totally awesome.
Hi Kayti, nice to have a newbie on board!
I realised they didn't sing LIVE at the GF, nobody ever does! I just thought maybe all the preparation and stuff got to his voice - it did seem rather husky.
We'll see tonight what happens.
I honestly cannot understand the appeal of Rebecca. To me she seems utterly without talent or more importantly, general class.
I was disappointed to see Cle go, she had real attitude. I felt sorry for Lauren, but she was too young to pull the competition off in my opinion. The poor thing looked terrified everytime she stepped onto the stage, and whoever did her hair, makeup & wardrobe on Sunday night should be shot - she looked like a bar trollop.
One thing I cannot understand is why the judges constantly say "you have to broaden your horizons" and the like. The stage the competition is at now is frankly not the time to be learning new things, because if you're wobbly, you're going to be voted out, i.e. Lauren on Monday. Mark Holden would have to be THE most annoyingly inane idiot to ever step foot on television. Can we vote out the judge I wonder?!
Love Chuka;)

09-29-03, 08:53 PM
Hey Chuka, I agree with you - they need to be performing songs that are comfortable with - not new songs that they are unfamiliar with, leaving more room for error.
I can't understand why the judges have a go at Cosima for singing the same type of song 2 weeks in a row and yet they let Levi go on with the same drivel week in week out, from the very beginning of the comp. He has not once BROADENED his talents to show us if he actually can do anything else. I am so over his style of singing!
Lauren truly was the scared little schoolgirl and she will learn from this comp!
Bek has had her time, it's time for her to go - she has not grown with the comp and it's showing big time!
Yep, Cle had attitude and lots of it - it's a shame to see her go.
btw, other posts are appearing in the Aus Poll thread as well!
Last night, Lauren proved to Australia what I have suspected all along - that she lacks the maturity, professionlism and ability to control her emotions in order to be the AI (on top of that, I don't think she's talented either, but that's another story). Had she won, she would have been performing under much more stressful conditions to much harsher critics on what Dicko would hope would be an INTERNATIONAL STAGE and there is no way she would have coped. It's good that she's out to now to save her any further pain/embarrassment.
On the other hand, Cle has certainly won her brownie points with me. She kept it together, stayed cool and re-delivered her performance beautifully, then ran to Lauren's rescue. She's a real pro with a lovely heart. I've never thought Cle was brilliant vocally and never been a big fan, but (as much as I love Bek), I have to admit that it should have been Bek standing in Cle's spot last night. Cle's performance on Sunday was average but Bek's was dismal - and that's Bek's second poor performance in a row. Her fans are too forgiving.
greenbelt
09-30-03, 07:58 AM
Kayti, I agree, that Bek's fans are too forgiving and unfortunately, at this stage of the comp - it seems to me that it will play out for who has the strongest/largest fan base and it won't have much to do with the real talent. I think people have their favourites (mine is Shannon) and I think they will vote for them regardless of how they perform on the Sunday night - otherwise Bek would have gone on Monday and Cle would still be there.
MissCreant
09-30-03, 04:06 PM
Cle lost all her brownie points last night, as far as I'm concerned, with her appearance on Rove. When he asked if she was disappointed, she said something like...."Get real, a black woman winning Australian Idol?". I think she was good, obviously a lot of others didn't agree. Her assuming it's because she's black riles me like you would not believe. Paulini's still there isn't she?
gypsycat
09-30-03, 04:37 PM
God, did Cle really say that? i only saw the end of the interview, and i heard them both say only a guy would win. sounded a bit like sour grapes to me!
greenbelt
09-30-03, 07:42 PM
Did Cle really go down that path - what an idiot! I gave up watching Rove - wish I had stuck it out now! What about Marcia for God's sake, is she not black, Deni, Venetta Fields - there are heaps of black women in music in Aus (I can't of more now, but I'm sure there are heaps more) and as you say, Paulini is still there riding high! How dare she bring it down to that level. She was told by the judges (even Marcia, who has always been a fan of Cle's) that she didn't perform to the best of her ability and obviously the public agreed. Whilst we all know Bek is not performing well either, only 2 can get voted off each week, and Bek's turn is coming I'm sure, unless of course she picks herself up a bit. Lauren is the same, 2 ordinary performances, she's gone - is that because she's white!!!!
I hate when things degenerate to these bullshit levels!
Brownie points flying out the window.......
As for a man winning - gee, you can only go 50/50 on that one! It has to be one or the other! Didn't Kelly Clarkson win in USA???? mmmmm I wouldn't mind betting that either Cosima or Paulini win this thing - and I would also place money on Shannon and Guy - they are all worthy of it!
What did Lauren have to say for herself? Was she able to string a sentence together?

"What did Lauren have to say for herself? Was she able to string a sentence together?"
LOL!!! i was thinking the same thing myself! can someone clue us in?
Lauren was pretty pathetic - it was basically Cle's show with Lauren pitching in here and there. The girl mumbles and has NO personality whatsoever, and I'll say it again - I have serious issues with her hair.
Aside from her 'black girl' comment, which really was unnecessary, Cle was quite funny. She's really natural and charismatic.
Cle thinks either Millsey or Shannon will take it out; Lauren agreed and said it'll definitely be a guy just judging from the audience's reactions, and whenever girls see Millsey or Levi, they're all like, 'OMIGOD! It's MILLSEY AND LEVI!' And Cle was like, 'Yeah well, you should see 'em in the morning...' Hehehe!

Dunno if there are any fellow Levi fans here, but I happen to be a huge supporter of the guy, so I'll quickly share this for those of you who care.
I talk to a friend of his older brothers, and Levi flew back to Brisbane yesterday to film footage for Sunday's upcoming show. At about 2:30pm, who called my mobile (I live in Melbourne) but Levi himself, just to say thank you for voting and supporting him thus far. It was a fairly brief conversation but he was very sweet (with a rather sexy voice!) and the gesture was certainly appreciated - it was lovely of him to have taken time out to call and personally thank one of his fans.

Poor Texan! LOL It's not much fun is it, if you don't have anyone to chat to. Coming here and dissecting the week's events is more fun than actually watching the show, a la Survivor, Big Brother, Aus Idol, The Batchelor etc. You get to put your opinion forward and bounce ideas off others - all part of the fun.
Maybe I will visit the USA Idol site like you do ours - and at least listen to a few seconds of the performers.
Hey Tex, did you like Kelly Clarkson, she is here at the moment and she performed on our show the other night (which you will see on your tape, eventually) - I didn't think much of her actually! I remember being really impressed by one of the British Idol winners, but not so much Kelly! Oh well...
Did anyone see Mark and Marcia performing last night on the Panel. I think Mark's voice has stood the test of time, he did pretty well, considering he hasn't been a performer for over 20 years. Marcia is still great. I know many of you think Mark Holden is a wanker, but for old time sake, he holds a special place in my heart..... "reach out for the one who loves you, take hold of the man who cares"...... skipping off singing now! LOL
Kayti, sorry mate, you know I'm not a Levi fan - not of the person - just of his style of music, not my scene at all. It's nice that he did that tho - a true gentleman.
Greenbelt - if you haven't been a fan of Levi's style of music thus far, then he is really going to (pleasantly) surprise you with his choice for the Australian-made show! We'll talk again after Sunday. ;)

GB...I taped 'the Panel' last night (the best show on tv), haven't watched it yet...so Mark & Marcia sing huh....man, should I burn the tape now ;) Marcia has a great voice, saw her perform live a fair few times many years ago..I love her song 'Shining'. I thinks it's great you're still a MH fan GB....you should write him a letter to let him know he has one...:hehe:
The comment Cle made about a black chick not winning Autralian idol came from out of nowhere huh...can't see how she deduced that one....well, let her have her delusions....she's not out coz she's black, she's out coz the others are more popular....and as for a guy winning the show, yeah, I think so too..the guys have been better and more consistant the whole way thro.
Shannon...mmmm :)
Kelly Clarkson..... she was the pick of the litter at the time.
A friend gave me her CD and I listened to it once and wasn't impressed and have never listened to it again.
She sounds like she is screaming in most of her songs.
She has stage appeal because she is pretty and spunky and has these adorable mannerisms. She has a wholesome quality that is also appealing - like she won't take success for granted. Just a sweet, down home (Texas) girl.

Kayti, I'll look forward to hearing Levi's choice of song on Sunday - you have peaked my curiosity now..... :) - I'm sure he has a good voice, but I never hear it - cos I'm just not into his R&B hip hop style and it leaves me cold. I'll look foward to hearing him SING if that's what's gonna happen this week.
BF - you are just plain Mean Mean Mean! LOL I'm sure Mark would love to know he has one fan!
Tex, now the truth comes out, you're a Kelly Clarkson fan cos she's from Texas!!! LOL - I'm sure she's a lovely girl, just not my thing I guess.
Did anyone see Inside Idol tonight. I saw bits here and there and I heard Lauren say that Idol had given her confidence and self-esteem. Mmmm, I think she should watch some of her performances back and then rethink that statement. She was forever pulling at her hair and clothes, not looking comfortable at all and her singing and performing let her down big time. She is so young, but old enough that she should have stage presence by this stage of a fledgling career, if she's gonna make it big! I wish her luck.
Let's hope Bek performs better this week, after a visit from her boys. Maybe it's the boost she has needed. Good luck to her.
Can't wait for the Australian Theme Show. Go Shannon.

BF - you are just plain Mean Mean Mean! LOL I'm sure Mark would love to know he has one fan!

lol....
okok...so I watched the tape of The Panel (last show - spewing!!)
and Mark Holdens voice sounded good...which surprised me.....so I'll let him live - for now :)
I thought Mark Holden's performance on the Panel was pretty horrific. His voice was ordinary, & he definately needs a stylist - what is with that hair & the bad denim jackets???
As for Bec - the "behind-the-scenes" show on Thursday was vomitous. It placed a lot of its focus on her during her "reunion" with her children (which was obviously arranged for publicity reasons) & this attention will put the other performers at a disadvantage. For the life of me - I cannot see what the public likes about her. She continually whinges that she's tired, slouches, has absolutely no style or class, & worst of all, has given little energy to her performances over past weeks.
In the absence of the gorgeous Courtney, I'm now going for Cosima.

Hey Chuckie - I won't discuss Mark baby with you, you know he's the lost love of my life (I wish) - he still makes me swoon....
I was thinking about what you said about Bek and I agree with you. All that focus can only be to her advantage, and to everyone else's disadvantage - like she's going after the "single mother's vote" or something! I was thinking tho, if she's finding it hard now, being away from her boys and such, what will it be like for her if she ends up as the bloody Idol! There will be so much work ahead and travelling and quite frankly, I don't think she has thought this thing thru. These people say they wanna make better lives for themselves and their families, but isn't the opposite actually true - I think they're kidding themselves if they think it will be clear sailing after winning this thing.... only time will tell I guess.
I'm with you, Cosima is great. Paulini has also grown on me and Shannon is my male pick. I think they are the 3 most talented people in the comp. Guy is quickly moving up my ranks too and according to Kayti, I will be pleasantly surprised by Levi this week too, we'll see. :D

well i go to this other site and there are people there telling everybody to vote for bec cos she is a young mother? wth???just becos she's a mother doesnt mean people should vote for her! and as for the mark holden performance on the panel. i'm no fan of this guy but he wasnt too bad...
Gypsycat,
I don't think people have anything against Bek's being a young mother as such - Cle was a young mother as well (even younger than Bek) and no one ever had a problem with Cle. People are just concerned that should Bek win this, she'll be travelling the world and away from her kids for long periods of time, and she doesn't seem to have coped very well over the past two weeks -and it's showed in her performances. If she's to be a successful pop star, she can't let things like missing her kids get in the way of giving good performances. Cle and Shannon are both parents who miss their kids, but they've still managed to deal and deliver.
Kayti :)
KELLY
Typical, predictable Kelly performance. Good but not great. Band was too loud in comparison to her voice at some points. Will
probably be in the bottom three due to weak fanbase (as proven the last two weeks).
SHANNON
Meh. Very 'blah' performance. Competent but not memorable. Love his voice, but the song didn't show it off. Was much better last week.
REBEKAH
And she's back in the game! Loved this performance, biiig improvement on the last two mediocre weeks. Voice and confidence improved by 100%. One question: what the hell was she wearing?
LEVI
Yes, I know that I'm a huge Levi supporter - but I honestly was pleasantly surprised by that performance. Glad he made it his own, thought his voice was stronger than it had been in weeks - and yet the judges dogged him. It hurt me.
PAULINI
Absolutely ripped it apart. Still think her bottom notes are a little shaky but those top notes - whoa. Amazing. Great choice of song. Gets better with every passing week.
ROB
Starting to get on my nerves. A bit too cocky at times, maybe? Energetic performances make up for lack of vocal ability. Based on pure talent, would like to see him go tomorrow night, but most likely won't, due to huge fanbase.
COSIMA
Fantaaastic voice. Didn't hit a wrong note - beautiful control and pitch. Only criticism - she has Celine Dion written all over her, from the tone of her voice to the facial expressions she makes when singing. And we already have a Celine Dion.
GUY
Huge supporter of Guy (and his lovely voice) - not sure whether I loved or hated the song choice though. Like Levi, glad he managed to make it his own. Even though well-performed, it still felt a little wrong for some unknown reason.

Okay Kayti, here are the notes I jotted down this week!
Kelly - hated the song, she didn't own it - sounded too much like Ella but at least she moved around a bit more this week! I didn't think she was as strong as last week and I expect her to be in the bottom 3 again, but I believe she will exit this week.
Shannon - mm, a bit laid back in the performance, like he didn't try as hard this week - I just hope he isn't hoping to scrape thru on last week's performance! I didn't like his choice of song although it did show versatility! He looked like he enjoyed himself and I suppose that's the main thing - he seems to feed off the audience.
Bek - Blah! She was better than previous 2 weeks but she still hit some shockers! Some of those notes left a lot to be desired, but at least she showed some emotion this week.
Sorry Kayti, Levi's performance didn't change my opinion of him. I could hear his voice with his choice of song, but I didn't like his rendition. He still doesn't do it for me I'm afraid and I truly think his voice is quite weak.
Paulini - YAY. I actually hoped she would do a Tina Arena number when I heard it was an Aussie show and she didn't disappoint. She owned that song big time -it was like Tina Who??? She was fabulous! The crowd went off.... And what about Mark's comments about what Cle had said on Rove! Paulini is proving her wrong big time! Cle lost a lot of fans obviously.....
Millsy - I love that song, but I didn't particularly enjoy his version of it. He hasn't got the greatest voice but he performs well. He gets the crowd going with his personality - he's good, but not fantastic! Like they said, his fan base will get him thru. I don't think his Idol material tho.
Cosima - up until she performed, I thought I'd be voting for Paulini as number one this week, but this chick blew me away! Cold Chisel be buggered, that song was hers tonight. She has an amazing voice! She took the judges advice, no disco diva this week with the stupid short dresses (but what was that horrible gold thing she was wearing - UGH). She was truly outstanding tonight. She has no worries getting thru.
Guy - mmm, this bloke grows on me more and more each week. I thought he was really brave picking a Farnsy song, but he pulled it off, cos he made it his version of the classic. I really liked him tonight.
So, top 3, Cosima, Paulini and Guy (Shannon didn't make top 3 this week).... bummer
Bottom 3 - Levi, Bek and Kelly and I think Bek and Kelly will go.

well cosima and paulini were my 2 faves. absolutely brilliant they were! i'm glad mark holden mentioned what was said on rove from cle. how bloody stupid was she saying a thing like that!
My favorite atm is Cosima. The last clip I saw was of her singing Predictable and she was awesome. She has great voice control and stage presence.

So, I picked the bottom 3 and I even chose the 2 that would leave completely! YAY.... not really, it's awful to see any of them go. When I chose my 3 I did from my perspective, I didn't really believe that Levi would be one of the 3 - I thought I was the only person not digging his style....
I think Millsy breathed a sigh of relief when he was "okay" for another week. He better pull something out great next week - although he probably does have a huge fan base. I felt bad for Kelly, but after 3 weeks in a row, she knew her time was coming - she was so gracious about it though and performed well tonight. Bek didn't seem too surprised either. I think Levi was surprised and he'll be shitting bricks next week now - like Kelly was! Once you're in the bottom 3, it's hard to crawl back up... it shows a lack of fans I guess - either that or people that really do vote
