Sodapop was a character in the S.E. Hintory story The Outsiders which was a good story, by the way.
If you go to the site and hover over the links for coke/soda/pop you can see the data points for each option separately. Pretty cool. By a circuitous route here (http://www.thenorm.com/strips/strips.php?id=030314) is how I found this link. Somewhere else (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thenormisgod/message/1573) someone pointed out that The Norm guy is actually wrong. I would have gone along with the California/Coke thing but . . .

All southerners aren't rednecks, but almost all rednecks are southerners?
Contrary to modern belief, redneck comes from the red blood kerchiefs southern Scotsmen (particurlarly Ulster Scots) wore to commemorate the Covenanting Act of 1638. Many of these radicals actually signed the document with their own blood. In memory, they later wore blood red kerchiefs around their neck and passed this tradition down to their Presbyterian offspring. The vast majority of these Scotch-Irish Presbyterians migrated to Pennsylvania, Virginia, North & South Carolina.

its pop darn it! soda and pop are the same thing and coke is a shortened way of saying "I'll have a coca-cola." (of which i'd take a pepsi over it any day *takes a deep pull offa his 2 liter of PEPSI*) besides if you knock off si and change the e with an o it'd be pop. therefore i must conclude hitherto that pop is the correct term when referring to carbonated beverages. :hehe:

I've seen that map before and we had that discussion. Up here in Canuck Land we call it Pop or soda interchangeably.
I fail to understand how Orange Crush can be referred to as Coke.
Then again, up here "gimme a snort of your pop" means "can I have a swig of your beer" so if we used the word coke instead of pop everything would get screwed up.

Coke vs. Pepsi

The Pepsi Arena is home to some of the Capital Region's best acts. But a quick look at the wall of fame will show you how tastes change. Arena management doesn't mind. After all, it keeps people buying tickets. But there are some at the arena who do mind. They hope your taste doesn't change. In fact, they spent $8 million to keep their name fresh in your head, by putting it everywhere.
Pepsi Arena General Manager Bob Belber said, "Every radio spot, every TV spot, every print ad, almost everywhere you look, Pepsi Arena is there."
That's right, Pepsi. But when one of the biggest events to come around here in a long time rolls into town, Pepsi will have some competition for your attention. From none other than Coke. The NCAA Tournament is sponsored by Coca Cola.
So we could hear "Coke presents the NCAA Tournament from the Pepsi Arena in Albany?"
Belber said, "Could very well happen."
And that's not all. Like Belber said, the Pepsi name is everywhere here. Those signs will have to be covered up with NCAA signs. That's the rule.
"There are some 17 thousand seats in Pepsi Arena, all of them empty now, but come game time, they'll be filled with screaming fans, some of whom are gonna get thirsty. And if they do, they'll be able to buy Pepsi inside. But outside, the beverage of choice will be Coke.
But you better start taste testing now, because no matter what you choose, you cup isn't going to say Pepsi or Coke, but you guessed it: NCAA.
But for most people, its not about the competition in the cup, but the heat on the hardwood. Just ask them, Pepsi or Coke?
"I don't care," one man said.
And neither does the NCAA.

Goes to show you that you have to pay for quality. ;)
I was a Pepsi addict for years up until the 1st of the year when I went "DIET" to cut down on my sugar intake. I still, however, drink Pepsi products..... Diet Pepsi Lemon Twist, or their new Diet Sierra Mist.

I understand, I feel for you. it is hard to break those bad habits.
It actually wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I still can't, for the life of me, drink Diet Coke. That's like drinking anti-freeze with saccarin in it. BLAH!

i really actually don't give a crap about what i drink. hell if i had a choice i'd get milk but it wasn't on the list :sure:
As if I didn't say Coke before, spending the last 4 months in Atlanta has made it definate. I don't think they even sell Pepsi there.

To be honest, the fact that anyone can drink diet anything is amazing to me. Thanks to my docter, my wife has been on a mission to get me to drink diet beverages, but hell will definitely have to freeze.:baa: (just a personal thing I guess).

Here, if it's Coke, it's Coke.....but it's one of what we call 'soft drinks', or 'fizzy pop'....or just 'fizzy drinks'.
I never drink Coke, or Pepsi or any of those sorts of drinks. Tea, coffee, water or beer for me......,;) I've met some hardcore 'Coke addicts' though. The thought of going through a day without it is enough to send them into withdrawals.
