Why the hell do people insist on spelling it like this... bologna!!!
BALONEY!!! Is that a British thing or something. Bastards!

Sorry it's been eating at me.

evereno

Hey, we're getting away from the "boloney" issue here!

cuda

BTW from now on monkey will be spelled.... monkgna.

evereno
03-06-03, 07:14 PM
I am not bothered by the term because baloney is just a variant of bologna.

I am also okay with it because Bologna tastes like crap and baloney in slng means "nonsense". Since these are both negative in my opinion I am fine with intertwined use.

It's spelled that way because ot originated in the Town of Bologna in Italy..........sounds good anyway.

Dave

Good guess...

Bologna -- (cooked, smoked sausage)
Originated in Bologna, Italy; made of cured beef and pork, finely ground, with seasonings similar to frankfurters; available in rings, rolls or slices of varying diameters; fully cooked and ready to serve.
BEEF BOLOGNA is made exclusively of beef and has a definite garlic flavor.
CHUB BOLOGNA is a smooth mixture of beef and pork with bacon added.
HAM-STYLE BOLOGNA contains large cubes of lean cured pork.

Do I sound as much like a nerd as I feel when I answer questions like these?

The reason it reminded you of Mortadella Dave is because it is the American version of Mortadella. Mortadella reigns supreme over all the other salumi and salami in the Bolonga region and became synonymous with the area. So, when people here made it, they mistakenly called it Balonga.

There, you guys all learned something else about me - my favorite celebrity chef is Mario Batali and I watch him every opportunity I get.

The only restaurant that delivers lunch to my office has a fried baloney sandwich on it's menu... and they offer it as a breakfast meat w/eggs, too.

The day I really realized what a redneck at heart I am is the day I was bragging about my fried baloney sandwiches... I actually told someone they hadn't eaten fried baloney until they'd eaten mine...and now you've learned a little something about me, too. :scary:

Sometimes my husband will go to the deli and get a very thick slice of bologna, then cut it into cubes and fry it.

George Carlin did a bit on allowable "filth" in hotdogs. He claimed there is an allowable level of rodent hairs, roach droppings, and bug parts in hot dogs. He suggested they should advertise, "Yes, we have fewing roach droppings than the other leading brand!"

That's OK, I still eat baloney and hot dogs. What doesn't kill me makes me stronger. LOL
