You'll have to bear with me here if I'm a little long-winded. I am trying to quit smoking. This makes day 2 of COLD TURKEY nicotine-free hell. Yes, hell. And there is NO smoke here contrary to popular belief. Any ideas on how to stop the jonze without going absolutely frikkin insane?:nono: :Pimp:

20CCs of thorazine a day administered by a trusted, chain-smoking friend. You'll be fine within a month.

My relatives would buy big bags of jaw breakers to help ease it. Don't really know how much it really helped.

You need to occupy your mind with something else during those times you would have had a cigarette break -jogging, which will also help detoxify your system; many people fill that time with eating, which is why so many people add weight after quitting smoking. I find Sex is usually the best way to fill the time.
If you can't find anything else, drink a lot of water. This will mean during those times you need to fill with something other than smoking, you will be drinking or in the bathroom.
Plain and simply you need something to occupy your time and take your mind off of it. I would suggest getting some sort of exercise equipment.
Almost forgot. If that doesn't help here is a link to the Arizona Smokers' Helpline that covers what many people go through when trying to quit. Don't know if it will be helpful, but here it is:

EG, good to hear that you're taking the plunge into non-smoker heavan.
What GOPS wrote is so very true. I'm a fiend when it comes to smoking.. I've quit several times with the longest time being a year. I'm about to join you in a couple of days.
Like I said.. I've quit several times and the shortest time I made it was 29 days and twice at about 5 months.
What helped me stay off of the poison the longest was jogging. I hadn't exercised in years and one day I quit smoking and the next morning I went for my first jog. I got about a 1/4 th of a block and was about to throw up... kept at it and within two weeks I was up to a mile and feeling SO DAMN GOOD!
I used the nicotine patches and for me they're great. I get my lungs cleared and more oxygen in my system and I dont kill anyone.
The patches don't really do much more than take the edge off. The cravings still come and that's where the mental part comes in. You simply tell yourself you dont need the cig and the craving ends up going away within a few minutes.
just don't do what I've done.. "I'll smoke one cigerette and that will be it" or "Clove ciggerretes and/or Cigars are different.. I can smoke one these"
Also, advoid alcohol for awhile... it's too easy to have "just one cig"
Here's what you might find..
you're going to have an increase in energy and sleep might be a problem.
You're going to start smelling again and you may realize that much of the workd stinks. (get ready to do a lot of washing and deep cleaning around the house.. nictine is really a foul smelling scent.. you'll see)
If you tend to ever feel depressed then you might find you're in a much more positive mood (I guess cus of the increase in oxygen).
You may explode a few times over the next 4 to 6 weeks. Perfectly normal... either let the fury out or roll with it.
Oh yeah.. take GOPS advice on sex. It helps and you'll probably find yourself wanting to get laid more than normally (I guess cus of the increase in oxygen).
anyhow.. good luck!
Good luck on quitting. I've tried a few times, with no success.

This is a big part of the reason I don't try to quit now...I don't think the world is ready for me with MORE sex drive. Yikes. :scary:

Maybe you could still volunteer for the nicotine vaccine study; it's being conducted in your home state, isn't it?
The vaccine is in its first stage of study -- being tested for safety. It's being tried only on a small group of volunteers in Pennsylvania.

A VERY interesting turn of subjects! Woo!
Anyway, I can't give you much advice because I'm still puffing on the cancer sticks, but I have tried to quit a few times. The first time, the Zyban worked GREAT for 2 months. Had a personal issue and started back up. I know, very stupid, but sometimes I am stupid.
The second time I tried quitting was right after my spinal surgery last July. On the Zyban that time, too. Wasn't as effective in curbing that crave. No go. I haven't smoked in my house for 7 years because I can't stand having my house smell like that, and for number 2, my daughter has asthma.
Eddy has good advice, except I remember wanting to sleep all the time. I had no problem in that department. What I've read and been told is that when you crave a cigarette, drink a glass of OJ. The citrus in the juice combined with the cigarette is enough to make anyone gag! http://bushwhacked.net/forum/images/smilies/smiley-kots.gif
At any rate, GOOD LUCK!
