Can anyone tell me if there is a huge difference in the quality of photos for a 2 or 3 pixel camera......is 2 sufficient?

Go for 3 if you can afford it. Big difference.
I'm not buying it, someone else is and they dont want to spend more $500, can you get 3 for that kind of money?

I wanted to resurect this thread because we are in the market for a new camera, probably this weekend.
Has anyone bought a camera within the last few months? I looked at the above links, and some of the items are replaced by a newer model already.
Right now, we have an Olympus 2 megapixel (I can't think of model # right now) and it does ok, if the lighting is right. If not, the flash makes everything too bright. I have tweaked the settings in manual, etc.
This will be for indoor photos of exotic women mostly, heh.:sure:
Any hints?

i've noticed that prices for 3megapixel and up are coming down a bit, at least over here they are:sure: but are these going to be for professional commercial (like being printed out and all) use? if so i'd say 4MP

Hey thanks!
We have narrowed it down to the Olympus 5060 or the Canon G5. That is if we get it this week. If we wait, it will be the Rebel Digital.
Thanks again!

Make sure you take a look at the media prices. The Canon uses compact flash which is cheap. The Olympus uses xD cards which are more expensive but smaller.

I was interested in this thread because I'd like to get a nice camera, but it's not on my list of priorities at the moment. :what:
My goodness, JB, I just checked out the local prices on the model you just posted. Very nice camera, but...
$8799 CDN for a demo model (save $1700...:hehe: ) :scary:
I think I'll just be happy with what I have for now. :D

This is playing a big part in our decision. The 5060 actually uses xD, smart media, compact flash, and IBM microdrive. Since we have 1 GB total of smart media, it may be worthwhile to pick this one.
I wish we could get that 14mp cam JB, but I have other toys to buy as well.:)

Bump.
Got a Kodak DX7590 over the weekend. The reason I wound up picking that one was for the 10X optical zoom. Most of the rest of the cameras I looked at had 3-5X optical, and 8 or 10X digital zoom.
This thing takes great pictures, 5.0 MP, and has a lot of automatic settings that help out the novice.
Freak, got any tips on photographing exotic women...? :p

ok.....I just bought a sony digital 8 video cam....and have been trying to transf. to dvd, but the dvd I have been making on my home movies look like crap in dvd,now there are 2 other formats I can burn this in,VCD and SVCD. I would think that dvd would be the best.....so why are the vcd burns looking better????
I bought a Canon 20d two months ago. I really like it. Now if I could just afford some more lenses, and a better flash. Battery lasts forever, and 8MP is great for editing and for large pictures.
STI, maybe the program you are using does a bad job of converting? I have a Sony MiniDV that I make DVDs with, and the picture is great. VCD has a much lower resolution, and higher compression ratio.
Gosh, am I the only one in this world that doesn't yet have a digital camera? I am looking for one for under $50. Any recommendations? Seriously. It is for my 10 year old son. He doesn't mind a used one off eBay. I guess a 2-3 megapixel range is a good start. I will probably use it more than he will. (Maybe one of the earlier posters wants to sell me their old model!)
Someone recommended the Panasonic DMC series, because they use AA batteries. Any other ideas?
Although I don't have a digital camera, I do take pictures. I just am still using film, with my trusty Canon EOS 620. In fact I used to be a photographer. I am not non-technical either. I use a scanner proficiently, and scan in any photos that I need in digital format.

Sti, what model is your cam, and how are you transferring video to your hard drive? When you say you are burning DVDs, are you writing .vob files, or some other format like MPEG or Quicktime?

CVS to Sell Disposable Video Cameras
MyWay News. (http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050609/D8AK2N680.html) - For years, disposable cameras have been a magnet for last-minute photographic whimsy, encouraging all manner of embarrassing pictures from weddings and other social events. Watch out: There's now a disposable video camera.
The $29.99 pocket-sized digital video cameras are able to capture up to 20 minutes of video and sound.
CVS Corp. (CVS) stores, which has exclusive rights to sell them, will process the camera for $12.99 and return a DVD; users also can e-mail video and video greeting cards.
Pure Digital Technologies Inc. developed and designed the camera with just three buttons. One starts and stops recording, another is used to play back video and the third deletes recorded segments.
Grant Pill, director of photography and imaging at CVS, said the camera is ideal for people who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars or fuss with too many controls.

You've burned the same video in DVD format and SVCD format and the SVCD looks better?

Yes, anything but hard drive caching is your enemy.
Sti, just read the replies quickly, will do more research later.
Digital 8 has a max resolution somewhere around 450 lines. a DVD can go up greater than 500. (525 i think, but not certain.) SVCD is 480 and VCD is 352.
All that being said, if something is converted to DVD, it will only be as good as the source recording. You can't get DVD quality out of a Digital 8. (I believe)
When I get home tonight, I will look through the info I have. (I do a lot of vid editing.)

Just thought I'd take the opportunity to brag about my new Nikon D70....Love is a D70.... :)
BTW, for those of you have have digital cameras and a Costco membership, I highly recommend getting your prints there. I used to burn all my images to a CD, and then take them down to Costco. They have a kiosk where you can stick the CD in, or your digital media card and then pick which pictures you want on a touch screen. They are only 19c a print this way, and the developing at Costco is better than anywhere else other than maybe an expensive professional print house.
Now you can upload your photos to Costco.com and go down and pick them up in a couple of hours for only 17c each!
I have tried some other places like Walmart, and the pictures just plain sucked.

Man, I do love this digital camera. No more processing to view them. I took about 1200 pictures last week, didn't have to buy film, change film, have it developed, none of that. Just snap away, download them onto a laptop at the end of the day, and I'm ready to go again tomorrow.
