I should have really posted this thread months ago, but better late than never.

If you ever played AOE or AOK, then the controls will be very similiar but is quite a different game.

The campaigns are the best I've ever seen in a game, despite the fact that the russian campaign becomes friggin impossible in the second, and its almost luck if you manage to beat it (basically you have to build huge force which gonna kill your economy, send your force out to wipe out enemy, there are 5 of them.. and if you fail you gonna get wiped out and even if you don't fail, chances are one or more of your other enemies will attack your undefended base). Yeah I managed to beat it evantually, but its still incredibly frustrating to someone who thinks they're good at RTS games.

Another good aspect despite the fact you'll spend weeks on a single battle for the campaigns, (you won't get bored fast), is that in the campaigns they have little cut scenes, and they are.. sorta fun to watch, you can make your own in the custom scenario maker, hell even make the whole scenario a cut scene, make it one little movie.

The single player game is fun, but the computer cheats alot, see, sometimes to advance and age, you need a wonder, once your wonder is built, the computer (whose economy is mostly non existant) will suddenly have a massive attack force, set on destroying your wonder. Because the game is of such epic proportion and even small maps make it take a while to find your enemy, the game is not for someone who doesn't have atleast an hour a night of freetime they like to spend on the computer, I spent a week on 1v1 on a small map.

Multiplayer I haven't tried, because I'm horrified of lagging out and crashing everytime, (when you lagg alot offline, imagine it on a phoneline with other people) And the games take so long, I don't think most people are gonna want to spend an entire night just playing one game, yeah... you can save and then reload, but most people I know from RTS games try not to do this and would rather start a new game unless they have a significant advantage over someone else.

Supposedly though, the multiplayer is meant to be great, but I won't be trying it out anytime soon.

It also has nice little details, you can raise the level of the land in the water, the prophets are ALOT of fun, you make a volcano, a hurricane, a firestorm, the plauge, and locusts and malaria, and they look cool too, Except the disease ones, they just look like people getting sick.

The game is in 3d, and the camera is able to zoom in and out, which makes it fun if you wanna be right down in there when you lose your men, you might not want to do it so much though, the graphics are kinda icky, and it becomes laggy. You can't spin the camera around either.

If you want nice battles in 3d, try shogun total war, if you want -great- battles, but in 2d, try cossacks, empire earth's battles are nothing to scream about. But you gotta remember how many ages and unit upgrades there are.

Its hard to describe the ages and upgrades thing, you have to play it really.

This game will entertain you for a month or so, and then you'll goto some other RTS game out of nostalgia, then come back to Empire earth a couple months later (atleast thats how it goes for me).
I'll give it a 4 out 5
