View Full Version : How I learned about Bressler.org

A couple of days after the attacks, I was sent a pic from the Osama Page O'Hate. I checked out the pictures and then began drifting into the other areas of the site. Well, I got got hooked.

How did the rest of you get here?

Kimmy

Sort of the same way, Pete... I was searching for Bin Laden parody and Bressler.org came up. I checked out the rest of the site. I got hooked reading the board and emailed JB to tell him I was going to hang around for awhile.

It was some kind of weird web love triangle thing. There were three pages that I surfed that were all linked to one another at one time. When one fell out of favor I stopped surfing all three. I have since recently re-discovered bressler and have begun to contribute. I've also made the shortcut one of my LINKS in the IE toolbar, so it's a "regular" site now!

I honestly can't remember how I found this site. I do vaguely remember viewing a thread in the politics forum (not sure how old it was)from an unregistered guest blasting America. JB in this thread decided that all who post should be registered members. I honestly can't remember the thread.

I didn't join at first, but a day or so later I registered. 20011017:)

Mine's pretty sorted...An X boyfriend from Sacramento turned me on to Bressler's right after the attacks (See comments on link page for my site, he left a couple of pissyman comments in there posing as my son) I sure can pick em man! heh I saw the photoshops and decided to make a few then sent in a buncha stuff to the page 0' hate. I was totally hooked. The rest is history...

I was also caught in this web of lunacy by an internet search gone bad. I believe I was looking for some political stuff, and somehow I ended up here. Anyhoo, I lurked the forums for a long time (6 months or more), and then I took the last forum quiz. Then that gasbag Cuda started talking trash, and I registered and have been wasting far too much time here ever since. Glad to be part of yet another dysfunctional family.:D

Well it all started after a long night of hard drinking and heavy drugs... I had just got out of prison, I was celebrating life. Next thing you know, I woke up drooling on my keyboard with clown makeup on, wearing a leather thong and all these farm animals hanging out in my apartment. I still can't figure out how that cow got up the stairs and through my front door. Anyway, I somehow ended up on Bressler.org and have been hooked since.
:hehe:

Actually I also somehow got involved with the Osama Page O Hate after Sept.11. I was strictly Photoshop until I decided to start posting in other forums, which led to padding, which led to annoying JB.... and the rest is as we say history. whatever...

I found bressler.org while doing a web search for 'survivor girls nude'. Weird how that happens.

Seriously though, I'm pleased you all ended up here and that you find it worthy of your valuable time.

A teensy bit off subject, but I'll take this opportunity to answer one of Pete's emails. I hope you don't mind, but since we're reflecting back, I figure I could kill two or more birds with one stone.

Will you please tell me how your site got put together. Not the nitty-gritty of it, just who did it and a little of the basics....

Bressler.org has actually been around since 1997 or 1998. Originally, it was intended as an easy way to keep in touch with my friends in Southern California (Robb, Rickmode, Jimness, the Hansbergers, Favetti, etc.) when I moved to Sacramento. I can't stand telephones (a semi-phobia developed in 1992). Of course, once I finished it they avoided it like the plague.

At first it was a plain old static HTML site, with a Forum. It wasn't updated daily. The guiding principle was, and for the most part still is, a place to store random files that I found interesting and wanted to share... and to never sell out (turn to advertising to pay for the site). I'd rather have a little 'friendly' site than a popular one that requires banner ads and pop-ups.

Original content has obviously never been a high priority on the main site, although we've had our moments. It used to have more sound files and at one time even had a HUGE collection of animated GIFs. I got over the animated GIF thing, about 50% of the sounds are still here. As of now, counting The Forum, I believe the site is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 900+MB of miscellaneous 'stuff'.

The Forum was moving along really good by 1999 and was almost exclusively Movie & Entertainment talk, except for the brief "X-Styles" period that Princess B shepherded. We had a core group that pretty much talked about movies and that was it (Eddioboy, Lucie, Cladmartin, C3POlaf, Jimness, a couple others).

In 2000, I started playing Asheron's Call virtually 24x7 (along with Mando). That was pretty much the death of the 'old group' as I ignored the Site and the Forum for nine months, not just because of the game, but because the Site had reached a critical mass of garbage and keeping up the way I wanted to with strictly static HTML was increasingly impossible.

In late 2000, I finally committed to rebuilding the whole Main Site and spent 3-4 months building a complete custom back-end management system for the site, based on ASP and SQL database server. Additionally, I made it in such a way that it's simple enough for just about anyone to publish items to the main site (which was the plan, but never materialized).

Not to brag, because it's actually kind of sad in a way, but the Bressler.org site is sitting on top of a custom site management system that would probably cost you in excess of $30,000 to have made. The graphics and page layout still suck, but the rest of it... nice.

After the redesign, main site traffic slowly picked back up. The Forum, however, didn't really get going again until after the Page O' Hate. The Page O' Hate was THE ORIGINAL page of OBL Photoshops, which has been often immitated and often straight out stolen from. It was linked from FARK on September 20th or 22nd, and for a while became their third most popular link ever, even passing the topless pictures of Anna.

I think the Main Site remains a regular stop for a lot of those folks because, unlike other sites that eventually did the same thing, Bressler.org had a few more things to do & see. Also, unlike many other sites, the POH wasn't just a gig to pull in visitors. The entire site reflected support for the war on terrorism and still does.

Anyhow, there are three major events in Bressler.org history that a good number of people can probably point to as why they got here:

"80 Things I Hate About Phantom Menace" (1999) - A very controversial list of 'things that sucked' in Star Wars Ep1. Brought in a lot of angry fan boys, and got us linked from a lot of Star Wars sites.

"Imagine There's No Ignorance... " (March 2001) - This article, by 'Frack Duclos' was actually read, in it's entirety, by Rush Limbaugh on his radio program. One of my favorite sound clips:
http://bressler.org/bits/limbaugh.mp3

"The Osama Bin Laden Page O' Hate" (September 2001) - The mother load. For about four months, Bressler.org became mostly about maintaining the Page O' Hate. Hundreds of emails every day, site was often unreachable due to the amount of traffic.

Of all the things at Bressler.org, The Forum has always been my favorite part and I'm glad to see it doing so well.

The comments sections on the Main Site is really an extension of that, although they haven't been all that successfull. In the long run (and I've already made some feeble attempts at this) I plan to integrate the Main Site with The Forum. I think this'll increase participation in the front page updates (we'll see).

The next version of VBulletin (the application that runs the Forum) is due out by the end of the year. The word is that it'll include a content management system, in which case, I'll probably make another go at integrating the two operations (Forum and Main Site), and hopefully getting everything onto one server instead of two.

Well now, sit right down on my knee and let uncle Ed tell you the story of how I came to be here at Bressler.org. Why, I believe it was way back in the winter 1998 or so, this last century. Times were tough for old Ed. We had to eat shoes for dinner, and the world looked like it was going to end.

But I found time to look around for things pertaining to the upcoming Star Wars movie, anyway! That was, oh, around the time before episode 1 came out.

To make a long story short, Bressler.org had a thriving discussion on the forums about Star Wars. Well, I guess you could say I got hooked, and the rest became history.

Remember to tell your sons and daughters this story, so they can tell theirs, and so on. Well, I reckon I'll take a rest from storytelling now; my trick elbow is botherin' me somethin' fierce. Must be rain!

Places like

So one day I did a google search and found Bressler, laughed a bit, started doing pshops, still suck at it because I'd rather go outside.

I used to work with JB$. The first year of my employment, he ignored me entirely. I would throw out a "morning" only to be ignored. On a good day JB$ would reply with a snorting/grunting sound that I interpreted as, "Morning Sunshine. How are you this find day?"

I left for three months, and when I came back, JB$ threw a little love my way. I ate it up. Just the prospect of being good enough for the Chief Information Technology Officer made me want to earn his respect. So to suck up to him, I started browsing, and eventually posting articles on, bressler.org.

I haven't worked in the same office as JB$ for about a year and half now. I never hear from him, and I'm not even sure he would acknowledge me if he passed me on the street. But we'll always have bressler.org. :worthy: :smooch:

I'd just come here because it was the only way to get ahold of Favetti. I could sometimes get John to answer the phone.

Where's Favetti? We can't seem to find him anymore.

I think it was this thread that got him kicked off the board by his girlfriend:

Where's Tony? (http://bushwhacked.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=939&highlight=tonys)

Rick started that when Tony was out here for my wedding in June '01.

I think bressler has a hidden forum somewhere he uses for communication with his wife.

I'm way across town from you out by the Creeek Turnpike extension. I'm over near New Orleans and Aspen in Broken Arrow, or 101st & 145th using Tulsa street numbers. When I moved to Broken Arrow a little over a year ago I had the hardest time getting used to the backasswards street system of their's. The thing that really threw me off is that they have a Utica, Yale, Lewis, etc. except they run East to West. I'm kind of used to it now, I don't think my wife will ever get used to it.

Bad news, Thunder. You're no longer 'up against' this insanity. Now, you're PART of this insanity. Welcome aboard.

I still can't remember how I first wound up here, probably the Osamamama Page O' Hate being discussed on the iwon message boards.

I do remember looking at the pics there, and wondering how people made pictures like that. I was then introduced to Photoshop by a friend, and thought it was pretty fun. Then Zigi (wonder how the Zigster is these days...) wins the Championship because he did animations, and I wanted to learn that....

As JB$ first mentioned, I fist met him as “Caligula” playing Asheron’s Call. He was my mentors, mentor and I drove them both crazy (kept on getting killed, needing help, and just being a general pest). JB$ offered to set up a thread for our alliance. That is where I first posted as Uncor some time in ‘99. I lost my password for Uncor in a drunken haze and had to post as my second main character “Mando”. Well, JB$ stopped playing to work on his site more and the alliance kinda broke up along with the thread. I would check the Main page quit frequently (I thought it was funny as all get out and still can’t figure out how JB$ found some of that stuff), made a few posts in the regular form and would check in time to time but to be quite honest, the form was kinda pathetic till all you whacko’s started posting after September 11th. Hmmmm, now I think I have met the lunatic fringe.

I used to work with the fabulous Mrs. Buffy Bressler and at work (which I seemed to do so little of) I used to email bizzare stories or Intel flavored anecdotes out to many of the people in our departments. One was a story about how I was laughing at my grandmother's funeral and Buffster said that I should go to her husband's web site and post the story. I used to only post on the main page and then I registered for the forums sometime after 9-11? I guess I've been here awhile. Bressler.org is pretty much the only web page that I come to on a regular basis. I've met some very cool people here!

'Frack Duclos' !!!

Damn, I miss Frank. JB, where is Duclos now?

Ok, here's how I found my way to Bressler.org

Once, long ago in a galaxy far far away... I used to work for Intel and instead of working I would write crazy stories that I'd email out to the other worker drones in my quest to disrupt the normal flow of work. I figured if I got everyone else fooling around then it would be less apparent that I was doing absolutely nothing through out the day while getting paid the big bucks to sit on my ass.

Well... I worked on the same floor as a certain Mrs. Bressler who told me about her husband's web site and said that I should go and post some of my insanity upon it. I think my first post was in late 2000 or early 2001 and it was a story about how funny my grandmother's funeral was.

JB$ and I first met at California Polytechnic University, Pomona sometime in 1988. There were like eight of us that met in front of Building #5 to discuss reforming the College Republican Club. Until that point in my life I had never had a peer that was so damn intense. For the next several years we politicized and partied. Several years later JB$ told me that he was going to start a site but I never heard anything after that (mainly because he is phone challenged). Then Robb told me that JB$’s site had been up and running for some time. So I posted congratulations in the Guest Book and I’ve been here off and on ever sense. BTW, does the Guest Book still exist?

Damn, she just got her doctorate and switched jobs. No more school admin. That blackmail was there all along and I never noticed it.

BTW I've got an idea to help update your black book. Why don't you drop my pink horse pic and I'll attach a pic of my kids to replace it. That way your black book will be up to date in that both Aria and Avery will be in it and you can get rid of at least one of those old outdated pics. Deal?

From the looks of the pic, I assume Avery is a male?
I ask because I have a niece named Avery. Her sister's name is Logan.
My name is Mykal. Is there a pattern here?

Oh, BTW.....the pink horsey pic should stay. It's too damn cute! :smooch:  :D

Texan, I guess the pattern would be complete if my name was Jill. ;)

P.S. JB$ you already try and humiliate me enough by continually taking pictures of my $10 bill on your world travels so why do you need that pink pony pic? I'll give you another $10 bill signed by me if you take that picture off permanently.

Carl I have no idea what you are saying. But I was just curious if it had anything to do with my kids?

I came here looking for OBL pictures after 9-11. I did a few of them, then I got hooked on the PS Anonymous thread, I started with some horrible photoshops when I look back, I am so ashamed, something with dancing Osama dwarfs and also a shitting dog. I post ma-fri from 9-5, I have this site open all day. My amount of posts depend on the amount of work I have.
