To size a picture, search for the "Image Size" feature in your photo editor. It's in the "Image" menu in Photoshop. http://bushwhacked.net/ubb/smile.gif

Couple things you can do, you can either change the pixel size of the image or change the compression (e.g., 60% compression for JPGs should be good enough). Or both...

It's mostly for fun. Challenge would be a better way to phrase it, but contest was the first thing that came to mind. I did put a little "Reigning Champion" item on the subtitle of the board, from which I would naturally be excluded. Still have to figure out how to decide that. I'm still expecting a couple more too ('Dan' and 'Edward's Geist').

My bad on the picture.

I'm having problems with everything this week. My traffic on the site has been double usual this week, so of course, my host decides to fuck things up. It's been down for 12 hours, but it was like a snail all day yesterday.

As far as the message board goes, it's still only reachable by IP. The domain hasn't moved over and it's been almost two fucking weeks.

Geoshities doesn't allow you to link directly to images that they host. They won't usually show up unless you load them into cache first by pasting the URL into the Address bar.

I copied it to my server.

After entire minutes of deliberation, the super-secret Bressler.org steering committee, has bestowed upon ZIGI the title of "Photoshop Champion for October". As part of his "gift basket" for winning, ZIGI gets to pick one picture for November (so send it in Z). Unfortunately, the committee devoured the rest of the gift basket. The committee met for at least another five minutes to determine a "runner-up", but it was just to difficult to choose between Cuda, BT, Shotglass and Barb 101. Well done all.

I'll be sending a little email notice to the 30+ participants from October, as soon as we get some pictures up for November, and I get my lazy ass around to it.

Depending on the participation, and my level of sedation, we may have bi-monthly champions from here on in.

Any November photoshop discussion should go on this thread.

It's mostly for fun and I don't want to suck all that out of it by getting into critical comparisions. For reference though, the quality, breadth (how many subjects), and references to other things on the site/board for the entire "portfolio" of each contributor was taken into consideration, not just a single picture. (I wasn't the only one who made the decision either.)

Zigi's work was good, he covered five of the six subjects, and he was very prolific with 13 creations during October, two of them animated. Joel was the champion from September, and although he only did four pics this month, he was in the running as was everyone I mentioned. It wasn't easy.

Items from the Osama Page O'Hate are not considered for this, that would just get too complicated.

When we move to a new board system, we can add a poll for best pic of the month. It would be impossible for me to say which was best, or which one I like the most.

Zigi - You have the distinct honor of selecting a photo to be posted for photoshopping by everyone. The Champ's Choice, so to speak.

I usually try to find something with at least one entire person in the photo (not cut off), who's either doing something interesting or looks interesting. Also, it's good if the setting (background) is usable or if there is a workable object in the pic.

So, if you can find one, send it in. If you can't, it's no big deal, purely optional.

Well, it seems that we want to keep this fun and we are trying to avoid making it competitive, trying to keep it fun.

May I suggest we call it something like the 'Photoshop Consortium'?

consortium -n, an agreement, combination, or group formed to undertake an enterprise beyond the resources of any one member.

The person chosen to submit the photo, instead of being the 'winner' or 'champion', can be called the 'Current Consortium Director' or some such nice sounding non-competitive thing.

Besides, Zigi, this is for fun, nothing more. Read JB$'s guidelines, pick something that is pretty close, and stick it out there. You never know what the minds that hang around here will come up with.....

I'm always open for submissions, that should go without saying. Without submissions, and a lot of alcohol and pain-killers, there would be no Bressler.org. So if anyone has something, send that bad boy in (quick before I pass out), or post it to 'The Scratchpad'.

My question though, is should I post more NOW, or just stick with what we have for a while? I don't want to overwhelm folks, but then I don't want folks to get bored either.

Thanks for the submissions Turbo. I'll probably start a new photoshop thread for the one with the kids and start a "Scratch Pad" thread for the other one. Then I'll edit these to URLs to keep the discussion thread fairly clear.

I'm thinking a "scratch pad" thread could be for a collection of pictures that can be used as a resource or as future 'official' photoshop pics.

BTW, a couple of your older images are disappearing. They are so good, that i'd hate for them to vanish. Can you double check and maybe fix a couple of them if you still have them?

Sorry to be a "Board Nazi" but I consolidated a few messages and then cut a couple on the "dweebs" thread, including one of my own.

We used to have a NO discussion rule on picture threads, but I thought it would be cool to let it slide as long as it was related to the photo.

Once it gets beyond talking about the particular picture though, it should be done on this thread. (I screwed up too). Things could get real chaotic if we allow off-topic discussions on pitcture threads (without a picture).

I've taken the November survey though, and have narrowed it down to five. I'll get a couple more opinions and probably settle on two or three.

I can't wait for the polling feature though. Frankly it's too difficult to choose.

There were some real classics in November by a number of people, even those who only briefly passed by.

While it was impossible to narrow it down to one champ, it was almost as hard to narrow it down to two, but I did....

November's "Kings of the Hill" are Cuda and Barb101. They covered almost every topic, sometimes more than once, and did it well. So you two send me a good pic of your choice to post. Well done.

TurboJugend, Shotglass and Joe F also did some incredible stuff and covered most of the topics. Props to all.

Just a reminder -

I enjoy the animated gifs, but if you're going to do them, really, really try to get those suckers under 120kb, especially if you're sending them to me to post.

I think an important part of the Challenge is the 120kb limit. It's the great equalizer. Believe me, if we didn't have that limit Joe F would be coming in here with several MB large "presentations" that would require P4s and broadband on everyone's part. (just messing with you JF).

In case you didn't notice, you can now directly upload pictures to my server, but only for our Photoshop Challenge purposes please. TRANSLATION: Don't host it here and post links to it all over the net. I can tell. ;)

To upload a picture, use the "Attach file" box all the way at the bottom of a reply form. To embed a picture that is already hosted, use the "IMG" button at the top of the form. The old password thing was strictly to verify email addresses because of Deamon's friends. However, as soon as you received the email, all you had to do was visit your profile and change it. Two buttons - done.

There was also a feature that emailed you the password if you forgot it, as long as you registered with a valid email.

Haven't checked that feature out on the new board, but it's probably an even better system.

Would you like me to combine the three into 'da mighty sparroww' and then get rid of a 'w'.

How about all PS participants submit their favorite photo that they did and put those on a poll thread? Then open the voting to all members and the winner gets to be the champ for the rest of Feb. Pretty much the same idea JB has, except you choose your own pic for others to vote on. I like it.

Actually, as I was saying to DMS, you *ALWAYS* could select your own password, even on the old board.

On the OLD board there was an automatic password created when you first registered, but all you had to do was go to your profile to change it. It even said you could in the confirmation email.

The old board is moot, but... applying the same principle to the new board, there are a lot of features, but you'll never know about some of them, unless you look for them. ;)

FYI - I am working on this. I've been fishing around for some board hacks that might be helpful, but It may be a bit before I have any useful info, if at all.

The short term solution is listed below.

Best Photoshopper of Month. The best photoshopper for each month will be selected by moderators (the ones who want to participate) and I, based on photoshops just for that month. I think we will do a January and a February, so expect a January soon.

Best Individual Photoshop of Month. A poll for best inividual photoshop between 5 or so pics each month. I'll take one nomination from any registered user on the board, even if they don't photoshop. The top 5 or so will be in the poll. We can start this off NOW for January.

In the long run, I'd like us to be able to vote for the best picture in every individual thread. The only practical way to do this though, will be if I can find a board hack that will do it for us. Any other method violates two basic priciples:

It has to be easy to do. My concern is that any competition be subsidary to the actual photoshopping. Ultimately, it's just for fun and I don't want any extra work for anyone, or hard feelings. The more complex it is, the fewer people will participate regularly.

It has to be easy to understand. It has to be so basic that even someone like JHansberger would know what was going on (it's nice to have that baseline available). Requiring anything more than reviewing one thread at a time is probably too much to ask.

Someday we'll get it down to one person, but it was too close this time around. As you probably noticed, Barb101 has been out for some weeks (on a humanitarian mission), and we have a lot of new folks, so chances are good that we'll see a new face in March. CONGRATS to both!

This was the first time we had a monthly poll on best picture and I would expect that next month, if we do the same thing, it'll be a little more restrictive.

Here's the concern, and at least one person mentioned it, but I considered it as soon as the poll went up. I had restricted the polls in the Photoshop Forum to registered users only, but there was no further qualification on that. Theoretically, if you had more than one username, you could vote more than once. You could have also registered a new name and voted again. If we had a couple hundred people voting, it wouldn't matter so much, but since we don't... BAD FORM!

At a minimum, there will be a post requirement to have your vote count next time. You'll still be able to vote, but if you're a 'ghostnic' (and please believe that I can tell ;)) your vote will get adjusted out.

In this instance though, I can gaurantee that even if I exclude the votes of anyone who might have voted twice AND anyone with zero posts AND anyone who registered after the poll went up, Barb101's picture still wins.

So, now that I've made a big deal out of a 'just for fun' contest, Congrats to the Winners. My apologies that the January info won't be up long. Now that we're caught up, the March stuff is right around the corner and I expect that is going to be really close.

I know what you mean Laurie. I haven't posted a photoshop in weeks and now I see the March PS Champ label under my name. I'm humbled by the honor and will try to get back to photoshopping soon. I get as much enjoyment looking at everyone's creations as I do making my own. Sometimes I have to walk away from the computer for a few minutes because I'm laughing so hard. The reason for my absence is I've been playing Joe Hammer 'n Nails at home building the ultimate hobby room / computer den / and work room and it's taking all of my free time as soon as I get home. I want to get it done and start enjoying it. :) I lay the carpet down this weekend and then can start moving the computer. :D
