Well, needless to say I've been overwhelmed with the suggestions that have been flooding in. ;) One day, you'll all want to say, "hey, I was there from the beginning".
To start things off, I like the radial approach of the single player chapter one of NWN, which is pretty much how all the BG games went as well. So I think I'll at least start assuming that same schema.
This is going to be whimsical so bear with me... The focus of the central area would be Carl's Bar and Grill, the premiere watering hole - supply depot - bard stop - whore house - etc. of the whole area. There would be a small, or large, town built up around the area, maybe even a local castle/government center, temples, etc. For now, I'll call it Carlsville.
In Carlsville, there would be an NPC (non-player character) representing every regular member of the board, until such time as they actually started playing the game and had their own player character. They might just be hanging around the bar, running a store, or performing some other function. A few people might be key NPC's in whatever quests are developed. For example, I picture JHansberger as some sort of evil undead ringleader in a key quest area to be developed outside of Carlsville. That way I could go out and kick his ass over and over and over again.
Needless to say, there would be minor quests, but for the main quest, even more whimsical, I had the thought of Carl's B&G having been a victim of a horrible theft, and losing it's magical keg tap and magical self-filling kegs (4 or 5 kinds, like Guiness, VB, etc.). The only such devices in the entire kingdom... allowing Carl's to NEVER run out of beer. Until they can be recovered, Carl's needs to rely on imported Ballantines from a neighboring kingdom at outrageous prices.
So that would be the main area, each of the adjoining areas would include an adventure to uncover one of the kegs. Information found in each of the areas would 'unlock' the ultimate mystery of the whereabouts of the magical keg tap.
Any thoughts?
Anyone want to take on an adjoining area, conceptually that is?

Oh... there will definitely need to be something in there about sacking a Ye Olde Starbucks and 'violating' all of its employees.

I'll probably have this up as a re-supply town tonight. I've made a few custom items that are expensive and level restricted, but possibly interesting. Plus it was just getting hard as hell to find anyone who stocked traps for my rogue. ;) So I made my own.
Eventually, everyone active on the board will be in here somewhere... even Cuda.
I'll be the powerful and brooding (yet kind-hearted) Ranger sitting in the shadows in the pub right? :D cooooooooool...

LOL... yeah sure... ;)
Did you log on to the game I'm serving up?

what is the zip code of your little town there (IP)??

Bresslerville is not posted yet.
I do have a game running though. Server is 'Atilla' and it's listed on the matching service, no password. The game is pretty huge. It's been running all day so a lot of the easy stuff has already been cleared out but it looks like the harder stuff is still left.
Seems to require a lot of keys though. Think I will start a different one tonight (in 2-3 hours).

Lots of changes yesterday. The second floor is now a gambling hall with three slot machines and cock fighting. It should all work.
I was having some problems with the cock-fighting for while, but I think it's worked out. The cocks would fight, then the winner would attack me, then I would attack the winner, and then everybody in the room attacked me. Which was bad.
Still working on the town. Lots of good shopping that may not be as good when it's done... been experimenting with item creation. I had some arrows that were around 30,000gp but I tossed them, not very practical.
If anyone wants to come up with some more creative NPC dialogue, send it along (especially for the prostitute upstairs).

It would be great if you could somehow get the scripts from the prostitutes in the first game campaign, because its funny how they collapse from exhaustion afterwards.

Barb101's 'Temple' will be up by tonight. ;)
That's a good idea on the prostitutes. I should have thought of that since my first floor is the same as the Moonstone Mask.

How do we get the password?

Hey, those cows and chickens didn't put up much of a fight.
The dragon kicked my ass though.

You should try Colonel and Phoebe.

A lot of my time on Bresslerville is going towards making it painful for people like you who like to attack the NPCs. ;)
I couldn't bring myself to try killing the dogs.

I've started work on the first 'campaign area' for Bresslerville. It's a low level mine setting with goblins and whatnot. I'm thinking 3-4 subterranian levels, getting a little harder on the lower level.
There will be two quests built-in to it and I think I'm going to add some code to make them re-spawn regularly, as I want this to be a semi-persistent world that doesn't need to be reloaded to find some action.
If anyone can, or wants to build their own 'campaign area' and then integrate it into Bresslerville, that would be great.
By the time I'm done, I hope to have at least 5+ seperate campaign areas, each appealing to different levels of player. For example, my next one will probably be a crypt area, like Shirewood. I'll also make at least one level that even a level 20 would not be able to solo (for groups of 15-20s), or steal it from another module I like.
Anyhow, let me know. Doing it on my own may take some time. I don't know C+ so I'm patchworking it like I do everything else.
BTW, I changed the server name to bressler.org. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to pimp.

This is still moving. Learning a lot, but really minor things are eating up a lot of time and my current home computer can't really handle the toolset (new one on the way).
Right now, I'm pretty much done with a 3-Level dungeon for low level characters (2 quests) and a VERY high level dungeon for powerful parties (no quest built in yet, just the critters and environment).
The high level dungeon is actually somebody else's work who I contacted for permission to use. I'm going to add traps and quests. He had neither. It is the toughest area I've ever played (one cr 54 creature) and I'm going to make it tougher and basically the 'finale' of Bresslerville.
I have an extensive crypt area (mid-levels) close to ready to integrate, but I want to finish the low level stuff first.
The little stuff and the computer issues are killing me now. For example, the issues that are keeping the low level area from being finished: getting doors to re-close and re-lock themselves, respawning loot in chests. The rest is done.
Before I put it back up, I'm going to add:
* a transition area between Bresslerville and the low level area that should get anyone to at least level 2
* add encounters/conversation that leads folks to the high level area.
* crypt area and associated quests
* transition area leading to crypt area
* another henchman (groovehouse), there already is one rogue henchman
* Wrecker and 'his men'
* edit some of the conversations
Currently:
5 merchants (Carl, Robb, Eddioboy, Barb101, Cuda)
1 henchman
5 areas with encounters/hostiles
2 quests
1 cock fight area (pays off too)
2 slot machines (pays off too)
1 functioning (?) prostitute
1 active bar scene (a lot of board people in here)
After testting that, will add more areas including one area with mostly giants (exterior environment already done).

Bresslerville has not been up for a month. Probably won't be up for another 4 days to a week (and in an incomplete form).
I haven't had the server on either for the last day. I'll put something up though right now. It won't be Bresslerville though.

any word on Bresslerville?
I've finally moved and got NWN set back up on my machine (with a legit copy to boot!).

I haven't touched it for a long time because I'm still playing Morrowind. But... I'm almost done with MW, so I'll probably at least finish what I started in Bresslerville and set my server back up in the near future.
It's a lot of work, at least for me, and since it's been a solo project so far I don't know how much farther I'll take it beyond what's there. But you never know...
The game is continueing to get better with time, and Bioware is working on another MAJOR campaign series for NWN called Witchwork, that will be free.

Grrr... I've got the server going again, but it's not showing up on Gamespy. I'll work it out then start a new thread.
Someone made a persistent world available, so I'm going to try that out, maybe incorporate Bresslerville into it. It's HardCore rules, and I'm going to make it servervault. So it'll be tough.

Man, I just want to play on a server for 20 minutes without it crashing so I can save the cool stuff people trade me.
Just give me the address when you get it done then we can go bash other people around...er...I mean monsters.
Started playing NWN again last night after about a month and a half and now I'm stuck! I got to the top of that wizard host tower place (the place with the 9 transports) and can't advance!:what:
I can't get to any of the characters behind the gate on the roof area of the tower.
help....

Ok so first thing you do is open the door on your immediate left. Then you make a chance roll with a 30 sided die. If you get more than 15 you get an initiative roll and if you get over 20 on that then you get a reflex roll. If your reflex roll fails, you have to make a saving roll. If the reflex roll succeeds, you have to make a saving roll. If the result of the saving roll is less than 5, you die and if it's more than 6 you die.
I'm pretty sure that's what you do, but I'm using 2nd edition rules so we'll have to see if that's changed or not.

Are you on the top of the tower (pinnacle), or in the room with the nine portals?
JBMoney
10-31-02, 02:24 PM
Can someone check the 'role play' room and let me know if they see 'Bressler.org'. Maybe it's my client's problem and not the server. I can connect to the IP but can't see it on gamespy.

Roof top (pinnacle) where the main lead character "Arabeth"(sp?) is with a bunch of lizard creatures behind a big gate. Tried to smash the gate and attack them with arrows (and harsh language;)), but they don't come out.
I can't seem to find any good walkthoughs for NWN. I read one where they're just supposed to come out and attack you.
That's what I get for not playing for a while...:what: Damn this Carbon Based World!!!

After Aribeth does her thing, her and the principles are supposed to disappear, the gates open, and then you fight the Lizards and two mages.
If Aribeth hasn't completed the plot action, then the gates won't open and you won't be attacked.
So, if she's not completing the plot action, maybe you missed a triggering event.

10-31-02, 02:36 PM
Did you talk to all the folks on level 1 about Aribeth? On level 1 you might also need to find a 'Letter to Aribeth', a 'Small Diary' and a 'Tower Entry Key'.
The letter, diary, and conversations on level 1 may be triggers.

Well fuck... I can't get it to show up on Gamespy... at least not for me.
If it's there, it's under Bressler.org. If not, you can direct connect to 67.118.214.144. Only problem is, that IP will change at some point within the next 24 hours.
Anyhow, if you're interested in checking it out, you'll have to start a new character that'll stay on my server
OR
you can email me a character you want to use on my server (along with your login name).
Password is spudboy. If I can get the game to show on gamespy, then I'll get rid of the password and also put up bresslerville for shopping purposes.
It's meant to be a persistent world, so it saves every once in a while. If it crashes, it'll eventually boot back up and automatically load the last saved game.
Also, it's hard-core rules, so if you don't know what that is read all the bulletin board info at the start. Basically, if your first level character dies, your probably better off starting over. You can't log off after dieing and then log back on at full strenth. Where you leave is always where you come back UNLESS I restart the whole thing.
Of course, I haven't tested the technical aspects yet, nor have I ever played this module... so it's all one big mystery and you're on your own.
Tried connecting by IP, but your server wasn't found. Also I didn't see you on gamespy.

It's off. I gave up. SBC was changing my IP every hour.

let's see.....
Letter to Aribeth - got it
Small Diary - got it
Tower Entry Key - (?)...think I got it otherwise I couldn't have gone in.
I left everyone on the first level alive except for the one Golem with an attitude. Should I just kill everybody.
man this is gonna bug me for a long time...

It's ok that it's off. My roomie just got Vice City so I'm pretty occupied with that right now.
The soundtrack alone is worth buying the game.

They are actually selling soundtracks from the game. Each CD has the tracks from a different radio station. I don't plan on getting any of them, but I have Vice City and find it quite good.
