View Full Version : 2002 Forum Championship - FINAL... DONE... OVER

<p>There's a new game in town, and it's the Forum Championship. It's going to incorporate elements from all over the board, and in some instances, the main site. A new championship 'round' will start every half year. The first one starts today. The Forum Championship replaces the previous Trivia Challenge, although there will still be similar trivia quizes. <b>Congrats to Ty for dominating the previous Trivia Challenge</b> (unfortunately, you will soon lose your medal).</p>
<p>While the championship will recognize excellence in the Photoshop Challenges and the Gaming Challenges, it will be weighted towards other events, as those challenges already have their own recognition system in place.</p><p>There will be 'medals', under the member's avatar, that will reflect leader standings on a regular basis. At the end of 2002, the winner will have a special 2002 medal, in perpetuity... and then... a new contest will start. For now, the medals will probably read (subject to change):</p><p>1st Place - Forum Champion <br>2nd &amp; 3rd Places - Forum Gladiator </p><p>The new &quot;Forum Championship&quot; will incorporate points from a number of sources, including the Photoshop Challenge, the Gaming Challenge, random items (like the trivia quizes or questions), Survivor Showdowns, Oscar Contests, and special items (like referrals).</p><b>========================================= <br>SCORING ELEMENTS: <br>========================================= </b><p><b>SPECIAL AND RANDOM ITEMS:</b></p><blockquote><p>Random Items are things like the trivia quizes or single questions. Altered Photoshopper of the Month Points to 3.

A couple of reasons for this.

1) There are already two separate recognition systems for Photoshop efforts: listed in the forum index and the perpetual medals. Nobody else gets the same level of recognition, except arguably the Gaming Challenge (which is only 2 Forum Points for each winner, and only one medal).

2) The pool of points available to photoshoppers vs. the rest of the board is unbalancing. Having a pool of the same six or so people split up nine points a month pretty much gaurantees that whatever the monthly Photoshop results are will determine the Forum Champ leader.

3) It's become the 800-pound gorilla of the Forum Championship and it was never meant to be that way. Forum Championship should indicate participation across the board. Not that I'm implying that the current leaders don't participate in other areas (they do), but by no means should the Forum Championship be able to be won on Photoshop points alone.

4) It affects the selection process. I'm quite reluctant to award the same person photoshopper of the month twice when it means they're going to get another chunk of 5-7 points (assuming they probably also won a category).


A good part of this is my fault, because I expected more 'point' activity on the rest of the board (there are plenty of opportunities for them). But as it's turned out so far, that's not the case. So there it is.

This WILL NOT be retroactive.
