Got into a sneak preview of this flick last night, it's good to have underworld connections.

If anyone has read the book, this film takes a lot of liberties and makes a lot of changes. Ben Affleck takes over Harrison Ford's role as Jack Ryan, but now he's merely a junior CIA intelligence analyst. So he has to try extra hard the whole movie to get his opinion heard.

The movie is paced well. The revolves around a bombing on US soil which escalates into defacto war between the USA and Russia. All the while, Affleck is scrambling to get the right information to the right people and worrying about whether his girlfriend is even alive.

I really enjoyed how they ratcheted up the suspense, so much so that I got swept along with the story and lost my objective viewpoint. So I can't say for sure if there were any big plot holes, but I didn't notice any. Oh and the fact that Russia launched their whole nuclear arsenal and obliterated the US at the end was a nice touch. The director had balls to make that change from the book.

All in all, this was a fun, exciting and interesting movie to watch. I recommend it.

Wham - good to hear that you liked it and you've read the book - I'm really looking forward to this one, though it'll be a little weird having different people play most of the lead characters, but I'm always afraid of seeing a movie like this when I've read the book first. I just don't want to be disappointed like I was at the ending of Patriot Games.

Lacking your underworld connections, I'll just have to wait til it opens ;)
