What a movie! I know that I should be posting this topic in the Movie forum, but Titus is one of the most stylish movies I have seen in a really long time.

The guts, the gore, the revenge, the greed, the cannibalism, and best of all - the revenge, glorius revenge! Titus is a fantastic version of Shakespeare's most gruesome story, Titus Andronicus. In all fairness though, I must say that I've never seen any other version of the story, stage or film.

Who can beat Anthony Hopkins as such a character? Seeing him as Titus made me want to rush right home to watch Silence of the Lambs again. Jessica Lang, Alan Cumming and Angus MacFayden are all great, but there are too many great performances to list.

It's visually beautiful, which constrasts with the sheer darkness and evil of the story.

Perhaps the most uncomfortable thing about watching this movie is the humor. I felt like a bad person laughing at such a story.

There are probably very few who have seen this movie. I've had a hard time finding people who have even heard of it.

Please do yourself a favor, even if you're (gasp!) not a Shakespeare fan, go see this movie. I'm dying to know what others think of it.

I've been debating whether or not to see this film ever since I heard about the humor. I have seen a couple versions (one on stage, the other was a BBC production a number of years ago), and I couldn't get my head around the idea of laughing at it. Did they keep the words?

Okay, actually I could imagine laughing at it, as I saw a third (very short) version called "Titus Androgynous" performed by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. But they strayed very far from the Shakepeare play.

Please go see this Lucie. I am really interested to hear what you think of this telling of the story.

They do use the Shakespearean language, but I couldn't tell you whether or not they were true to the dialog of the play.

There really weren't that many people in the audience laughing throughout the movie. I guess I just have a sick sense of humor. Alan Cumming always cracks me up, and he does a great job with Saturninus - spoiled, weak and corrupt. And the revenge that Titus ultimately wreaks upon Tamora, while really sick, was kind of funny.

I could certainly picture Princess B laughing at human misfortune and tragedy.

...not that there's anything wrong with that.
