View Full Version : Lost
Anybody watching this?? There may be a thread already and if so I appologize....where is this show going, last night was way out there.
We finally got the first season through Netflix and were hooked. But by the time we watched them all the 2nd season had started and we don't want to watch it on TV because we're too far behind. We have to wait until the 2nd comes out on dvd. And I keep hearing rumors about stuff and it's driving me crazy. I'm dying to see what's happening.
This happened to us with Six Feet Under. We can't wait until the final season (5) is out. HBO has it but they're all old episodes.
So if your going to talk about the 2nd season of Lost here I'm staying away from this thread.
I did the same thing Bucko, I missed the first season and my friends talked about the show so much i rented it on Netflix and finished in time to see the new season.
2nd season started out hot and heavy...cooled off...then heated up again, its really good it sweeps months and ok in the other months...they show lots of repeats in off months

Well don't tell me anything. Last thing I saw was them looking down the open hatch.

My mom watched this from the beginning and was asking me if I'd watched it which I hadn't. I finally rented the first dvd of the first season and watched it to see if it was any good. It had me hooked from the first moment. I finished the first disc, went back to Hollywood and rented the other dvds to finish out the first season. I had a Lost marathon over the weekend and finished them in time to catch the second season. I have to admit I never thought I'd be so into a series like this. Now my family knows on Wednesday nights I get one of the tvs and they'd better not bug me for an hour. The other series that I can remember just "having to watch" each weekday night they were on were Dallas and Soap.
Bucko - DONT READ THIS
My friend sent me some stuff from the message board on what those read symbols meant.......but I dont want to be a spoiler

Love the show. Tivo it every Wednesday and watch the first free moment on the weekend.
Think I'm caught up but missed the last 20 minutes or so of last night episode. My bud filled me in.
Here's my theories.
1. They were put there as an experiment.
2. They're all from the metal hospital.
3. The korean gals baby is not going to be the Korean guys she's married to.
4. The guy they have captured is not a good guy. He's lying. He's bad
5. Nothing happens if you don't put the numbers in the computer.
I'll think of more as things proceed. Love the show though.
Just got the last cd of Six Feet Under season 5. Can't wait to watch that.
Ok Bucko - I have been holding off writing in the thread because I know you weren't caught up......Wed's episode - it appears they are there for a reason nad it seems they were all paired up at some point previous to being on the island.....
Hurley and the Taily
The Dr and The Cop
Shannon and her brother
Kate and Sawyer
The Koreans
Locke and possibly the Aussie
and, have you noticed that everytime they are going on a hunt for the others or on some other dangerous situation that it starts to downpour - there is definately some kind of weather experiment going on there - I think there are more than one type of experiment going on and each hatch (cause there seems to be many that all lead into a center hub).
Very strange show - the thingis - I don't think the writers know where it is going.

i love this show .................... i think its a human experiment of sorts - Survival of the fittest stuff.
I think there is more to it the - the whole baby snatching stuff, taking the young kids.....and the whole weather thing.......when the alarm was going off and all that stuff flashed on the walls - someone sent me a picture of it close up and it was a map of all the hatches leading into a center hub and there were notes all over it like "you are here" and "weather experiment" - I think there are about 8-10 hatches and each conducts its own experiment.
I read a book once about a guy who made a machine that controlled the weather and he used it in bad ways - created tornados to kill certain people - invested short in futures and then caused droughts.....made it snow in tropical clients...shit like that

i think you guys are ahead of us. The episode last night was the one where the blondie gets shot by the policewoman chickie fiery one and the indian dude is smitten with her and devastated at her death. Thats where we are at.
Yep Mel..I think that was two or three episodes ago..maybe more.
Want us to shut up about it?
At work we get some pretty wild ideas about what's happening from some people who watch it.
Bucko - go look at the wild stuff thats typed on the message boards...the number 108 is very symbolic to the whole theme.
Mel - we are at least 5 shows ahead

I didn't even think about the weather. When I was stationed in the P.I. it used to rain like that. Interesting observation. I'll have to keep an eye on that one. I think the writers know what's going on. They're just feeding us enough to keep you watching.
Like the prisoner. It appears there was a balloon and grave but the wallet they found wasn't of his wife. Then he says the bearded guy isn't the one you have to worry about. Also when he didn't put the numbers in.
I think there's more to him that we'll find out later.
You know, it's almost worth renting the DVD's if they'd come out faster. We did that with the 1st season. Now that I'm watching it on TV just as it gets interresting a friggin commercial comes on. Drives me nuts.
Even watching it I miss stuff. My buddy had to tell me that Hurly was stashing food. I must have dozed off during that part. Plus another friend said the black stallion showed up in the 1st season. I didn't recall that at all...only during the 2nd season did I see that.
Well whatever happens they have me hooked. The only really hokey part was the 1st episode when the guy gets sucked up in the jet engine. That would never have happened. And they most certainly wouldn't have survived a plane breakup at 30k feet. And why is there all kinds of medicine for seemingly everything that ails them? A pregnancy test in an emergency kit? I don't think so.
thats another thing - the polar bear - another experiment?? and what about the black cloud monster - they aren't worried about that?!?! lol
lots of twists and alarming things and then they drop them and don't talk about them again.

I'll bet the black cloud turns out to be just gnats or some bugs.
I have no explanation for the polar bear though. You're right, they never quite show you enough, then you don't hear anything for a while.
One thing I think I missed. did the hobbit start using heroin again???
I dont think he is using - Locke took all the statues and locked them in the hatch.....speaking of Locke - what about the fact that he can walk now?
I wish they would show more of Kate swimming in her undies

Oh yeah..I'll second that. She's a babe.
I'm not sure Locke couldn't walk all along. I know they showed him in the wheelchair at the airport, but I'm thinking it was just phsycoschematic <sp?>
He could walk all along. I also think he either knows more than he's telling or he's really trying to find out what's going on.
I do like Sawyer. The names he comes up for people just crack me up. And when Hurley kicked his ass I was laughing my ass off.

...And what about whatever it was that snatched the pilot out of the tree when they found him and were trying to help him get down. Did I miss something there?
Exactly - these huge things happen that people would talk about every second they were awake...they happen on the island and everyone gasps and goes about their business and never talk about it again - I'd be sitting right next to the shore at all times - I'd be scared shitless to go into the woods.

THE Q THEORY OVERVIEW
The LOSTaways are stranded on an island in the south pacific that used to be home to a research station made up of a team of international scientists. The island was manned for a few years when there was an incident. The research dealt with electromagnetism, psychology, zoology, meteorology and parapsychology. The scientists experimented on all kinds of animals from all over the world including polar bears. One day one of their experiments went horribly wrong and released some kind of radiation on the island. The whole island was quarantined. The scientists remaining on the island were never rescued. Today the major governments of the world know about the island and its quarantine but are keeping it top secret. The military has standing orders to sink ANY ship leaving the island.
THE NUMBERS
The numbers correspond to a frequency of electromagnetic radiation. That particular frequency 4815162342 Hertz lies in the microwave region of the spectrum. The experimenters on the island discovered that that particular frequency of microwave radiation caused strange effects on human and animal subjects. Some subjects were cured of ailments. Others gained unique psychic abilities such as the ability to read minds. Stranger still was that after being exposed to the radiation subjects subconsciously started using the numbers. Experiments showed that the pattern of numbers tended to be chosen by subjects randomly choosing cards with numbers on them. As though psychically they could tell what numbers were on the cards and mostly chose those numbers in the sequence 4,8,15,16,23,42. The experimenters decided to increase the intensity of this radiation on the subjects to see what would happen. A computer was hooked up in the hatch to an electromagnetic field generator. The generator was designed to start emitting low intensity microwave radiation at the magic frequency and then slowly increase the intensity with the subjects nearby. The experimenters did not have exactly the right equipment to the experiment that they wanted so they modified an existing generator. But in doing so they discovered that they didn’t have a way of varying the radiation intensity at that high level that they wanted. The only thing they could do was increase the intensity or shut down the radiation and start over. The experimenters rigged it so that if the sequence of numbers was typed in every 108 minutes it would stop the increase of the intensity and the experiment would start over. The numbers tell the generator what frequency of radiation to stop emitting and then restart emitting. This experiment had disastrous consequences causing subjects to hallucinate and become sick and die. Attempts were made to enter the hatch and shut down the electromagnetic wave generator but failed. Each person who tried it died. The decision was made to cement up the experiment and use the computer to continue to keep the radiation intensity in check. Even today the radiation is emitted and permeates the island but it is not at full intensity. If the button were not pushed every 108 minutes then the maximum intensity of this radiation would be unleashed causing widespread harm.
HURLEY’S BACK LUCK
Once Hurley got the number stuck in his mind after listening to Leonard say them over and over he developed a psychic connection with them. Although he is totally unaware of this. Yes, Hurley is psychic. Hurley broadcasts the numbers psychically. This causes the numbers to appear in Hurley’s life everywhere he goes and other seemingly bizarre coincidences.
THE POLAR BEARS
The scientists experimented on all kinds of animals from all over the world including polar bears.
THE OTHERS
The others are a group of infected humans living on the island. This includes two former grad students from the University of Michigan who founded the DHARMA Initiative. Over the years other ships have crashed on the island and stranded people who then become infected.
WHO WAS ETHAN?
Ethan was working with THE OTHERS to find a treatment for their illness. He wanted Claire for her baby. Children are affected by the radiation differently and THE OTHERS want to study this. His unusual strength is explained by the electromagnetic radiation permeating the island. Like Locke, the radiation had a beneficial effect on him. As a side note, you can now see the actor who played Ethan on another series called THRESHOLD where he plays a human who has been changed by a dosage of an alien signal!
THE CRASH AND ISLAND'S MAGNETIC FIELD
The microwave radiation emitted by the island can interfere with electronic equipment causing boats and planes to crash.
THE HATCH
The hatch is an entrance way to an underground lab where scientists did psychological experiments on humans and was part of the DHARMA INITIATIVE. An orientation film explained that there was an incident on the island that required a button to be pushed every 108 minutes. The incident was an accident on the island with an experiment with the microwave radiation.
WALT
Walt's brain chemistry is such that he is able to harness the power of that particular frequency of microwave radiation and can cause things such as birds to fly into windows and his own mom to become sick. Notice the quick demise of his mom. Healthy one minute and dead the next.
LOCKE
Locke as well as everyone else has been exposed to low levels of the radiation since crashing on the island. The force of the crash on his body along with the low radiation dosage combined together to create a unique effect and gave Locke the ability to walk again. Other effects on Locke have been very positive and include giving him the ability to sense the presence of electric and magnetic fields. Locke already had an inherent ability to read people which helps him help others on the island. He cannot read minds and is not an angel, god or anything other such thing. He is a man who has been affected by the radiation in a positive way. Sometimes the radiation harms you and sometimes it helps you. Although other people on the plane were also exposed to this radiation the effect on them has not been the same as on Locke. This is because different people have different reactions to the same dosage of radiation.
THE MONSTER
Believe it or not Hurly's description of the monster as a P O'd giraffe is the closest explanation. The monster is an ordinary animal such as an elephant that has been experimented on or has been greatly affected by the radiation. The animal's vocal chords have been altered so now it makes the odd sound that it does. Locke has seen this creature. He says that he has seen the eye of the island and that it is beautiful. This is because he can see the positive effects of the radiation on the creature. It may look very beautiful now. The creature is used by THE OTHERS to keep people away from them. But the animal is not the only part of the creature. There are also underground pulleys smoke and other things.
JACK'S FATHER AND OTHER HALLUCINATIONS
Jack's father is dead. His zombie does not roam the island. The hallucinations can be explained by the radiation. It causes some people to see things.
WHO HIT SAYID?
It was Locke.
LIGHT AND DARK PIECES
The light and dark pieces represent two different outlooks on life. Destiny versus chance.
CLAIRE AND THE PSYCHIC
Whether or not you believe that guy was psychic the fact is that the guy believed he was psychic and believed that Claire needed to raise that baby by herself. He probably saw the plane crash coming and sent Claire on the doomed flight so she could raise her baby herself on the island.
THE ISLAND
Reference has been made to the island being alive and being a character on the show. The island does give off unusual electromagnetic fields which in a way are its arms reaching out to touch planes and ships in the area.
DANIELLE
She crashed on the island with her team. They became infected by the radiation and it had very negative effects on them. Danielle killed them before they could build their own raft and release the contagion on the world. Although they may not have been contagious.
WHO IS ALEX?
Alex is Danielle's daughter. Alex was kidnapped by THE OTHERS for use in their experiments to find a cure. She hasn't seen her since.
THE WHISPERS
The whispers heard by Danielle, Sayid and Sawyer are caused by the radiation. They are a psychic connection to THE OTHERS on the island and also other things like their own past.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AS THE SERIES PROGRESSES?
The LOSTaway will find out more about THE OTHERS and discover that they are so desperate that they will do anything including maroon and kill people. The LOSTaways will battle for control of the island and this will lead to a huge confrontation with THE OTHERS resulting in several deaths on both sides. The LOSTaways will prevail however and discover research labs and what can only be described as an underground city. They will come to understand what has happened and about the quarantine. They will then ponder a way to get off the island. They will find evidence of past ship and plane wrecks and may meet a few other people stranded on the island who are not part of THE OTHERS.
Interesting theories but I can't imagine that radiation would be beneficial to some and not others. I would think it would be harmful to everyone in long term dosages.
But I did find it interesting that when Bernards wife sat down next to Locke and he said the doc told him it would take four weeks to heal that she said "We both know that's not true" Hmmmmm....Maybe her cancer's cured but how could radiation help with healing bones?? I'm no doctor but I found that interesting.
And anyone swinging in a net that can shoot through a 3/4"-1" rope with a 9mm is a damn good shot. I don't think I could do that. That was a little hokey. Plus..they shot one round and he said they had 13 rounds left to kill themselves. Does a 9mm even hold that many rounds??? I don't have one so I don't know.
There were a couple of intersting things last night but not as much as I had hoped for. I thought it was interesting that they mentioned they found another hatch with just old clothes and a fake beard. Another Hmmmm.
I'm also not sure about the prisoner. I can't quite figure him out yet even though I agree he may be evil. We know he's a liar.
I also noticed the camera focused a split second more on the serial numbers on the food containers when Bernards wife was putting them away.
I wonder what the significance of that was or maybe it was just my imagination and they happened to be in the frame longer.
Personally, I'd be doing what Bernards doing just to be doing something. He made some good points about sattelites and planes flying over, although I think I would have written flight # (whatever) instead of Help we're stranded.
But then they never did show what he was going to try and write.
I hate the commercials though. I watched the box set of the 1st season and got more interested than watching it on TV.

  That explains it...they must be the hash-bash-hippie variety...
Well..it was a pretty interesting episode last night.
I have a funny feeling Walts dad has been converted by "The Others" I'd bet he lets the prisoner go and shot himself to make it look like the prisoner did it. I didn't expect him to shoot the other girl though but I was glad he took out the pissed off ex-cop.
She was really grating on my nerves.
That was a good episode.....I think Anna was hot though, a little bit too much of a hard ass but nice body...I don't think she is dead though....two many people killed off at once.
I think Mike is desperate to get Walt back and will do whatever they say....the other was coming for John......getting really good

Well I didn't see any blood so it's hard to tell if she was even shot. But she's such a hard ass she probably just scowled at the bullet and it made an immediate right turn. Either that or she has such a tight bod it just bounced off like a quarter on recruits bed. :)

Well, if Anna Lucia isn't dead, she's [I]really[U] going to be pissed off now. And come to think of it, Hurley will be too. Is this a case of divide and conquer? And will Michael blame it all on Henry to prove his point that they should take over the Others now or will both of them escape back to the Others so Michael can get Walt back? Tune in next week....

They said that JJ Abrahms was surprised at the ending of the season finale. It must be the most surprising surprise ever. Well that's what they all say but for some reason I think it will be a great surprise. I don't know, we'll see.

I've rented the first & second DVD of the first season to finally see what all the hype is about.
Excellent production values, good set-up for the main story line, and interesting to watch, but interesting in the sort of way that any semi-paranormal thriller is going to be. People just like that stuff.
I'm only five episodes in. So far, very entertaining and the characters are intrigueing. I will continue.
I don't see how they can keep it up though without turning it into a soap opera (like most shows).
I kind of see this having a similar life cycle to X-Files. You just keep making the main story line more and more complex, diluted, confusing and ultimately meaningless. By the last few seasons of the series you just keep promising to 'reveal the real truth' but never do and the show focuses more and more on who may, or may not, be sleeping with who.
Hopefully it doesn't go that route.
Lost is pretty consistent...a weak episode every now and then but not too bad...right now it has taken a huge turn towards something happening....the season finale has the potentail to be a real cliff hanger.
JB, when you watch the dvd's pay a lot of attention to the back stories......there are a lot of sbtle clues and charaters of the show were crossing paths long before the place crash....hinting towards destiny or fate.
Well...I totally missed part of Lost last night. I wish they hadn't have had that hour of recapping prior to the finale. I think this is the second time I've seen that.
I tried but fell asleep about the time they found the original guy on the boat.
Anyone know if they're going to repeat the finale?

This is one of the few shows on the crap channels I like. With the exception of the over-done camera moving effect it's pretty good. I hate watching anything with this bobbing camera thing. It's almost like watching home movies with bad camera work. Drives me nuts.

Anyone out there still watching?
Wifey and I just finished with the second seasons and theory I come up with has something that doesn't fit.
Wife thinks is purgatory which seemed to fit until the last episode. Penny somehow knew what to look for to find Desmond so...
I saw some previews for the new season last night....looks like the three that were trapped are now in cages, old cages used for behavioral testing...the equipment appears really old. The whole place seems like there was a whole lot of human testing going on...for what, who knows...we shall find out at some point in time I guess.
The 7th disc on the 2nd season set had some pretty interesting comments by the writers. They also made a lot of comments on what wasn't going to happen. When does the 3rd season start?
I watched the summary show to kick off the 3rd season. It was a really good refresher of the first two seasons in a logical order. It got me pumped up for the new season.

I thought the same thing. A couple I thought were part of the show and turned out to be a jeep commercials. Was pretty interesting episode though.
Sadly I fell asleep for about the last 20 minutes. At least I video taped it and can watch with the wife.
I thought it was funny Sawyer being in that giant hampster cage or whatever it was. Of course the rock he grabs was just able to fit through the bars.

Great show last night, way too many f-ing commercials. I was watching the clock and about every 4-5 minutes of shows between commercials. Wife and I are thinking about abandoning network broadcast and waiting for the DVDs.:fbomb:
I noticed the frequent commercials as well
Locke is a stoner!!
I need to go back and watch the second half again cuz I was starting to drift off (during all those commercials I'd close my eyes)
That cracked me up Locke was a stoner too. I swear one of those guys growing the pot was the same guard who told Sawyer that the bears had gotten the bisquit in two hours? I have a funny feeling now that Locke knows a lot more than he's telling.
Anf WTF do you think he was eating that gave him the hallucigens in the sweat house?
I think we're about to find out how Locke lost the use of his legs and it has somethig to do with the pot growing.
I agree..Waaaaay too many commercials, although I do like the Geico ammercials with the caveman. My son keeps swearing that's Val Kilmer and I just crack up.
Locke is at one with nature, he must know of some wild growing weed that would do the trick. I thought the head guy who was pissed at him in the greenhouse looked familiar, like one of "the others".
It appears as if he did not shoot that cop so something had to progress with that situation.
And whats up with the other guy from the hatcj (cant remember his name right now)....he can see into the future??

Remember that they were apparently missing for a day after the hatch blast. That could be significant.
Am I crazy or did the cop look and act an awful lot like Henry? Could it be his son?
After everything that's been going on, I really think it all revolves around Locke.

we got some info on Julie last night, now we know why she is ther and that she why she sick of being controlled and that she was involved with some cutting edge research and was sent to the island to do that type of research....wasnt the best show but better than some of the ones in the first half this year.

You're right about that but I think last night's show was much better than the rest of the season so far.
Is it just me or does it seem like there are getting to be a lot of character inconsistencies? Hope it keeps moving along.
Lost is lost - the problem is, they got huge ratings in the first season and ABC wanted more years out of the show which screwed up the writers who porbably were going to wrap it up in 2 or 3 years.....from what I have read ABC has told the writers to start thinking about wrapping it up
Yeah, last night gave us more than usual but it still drips along at a very slow pace.
I haven't watched it at all this last season. They waited waaaay too long after the previous one. I had already forgotten what had happened and wasn't going to watch it again to catch up. I don't think the writers thought it would be as popular as it was and weren't prepared to come up with more episodes.

I can sum up last nights episode for ya's:
Claire learned Charlie's secret and Locke, Sayid, and Kate jumped the neighbor's fence. Not bad progress for an hour show.:fbomb:
I didn't watch it yet, have it on the DVr...but that shows you something because in the past I would have been there to watch it live.

Do ya think maybe John Locke is a plant by Dharma (or however you spell it)?
I dont think so, my theory is that the plane was full of bad people and good people who had bad things happen to them and the island dragged them out of the sky and is opening up a can of whoop ass on the bad ones and easing the inner pain of the good ones
Did we really need the back story of two new people?

Lost to end in 2010
(http://www.itv.com/news/entertainment_45bb36a83af239ec3e2d05dfa7bc59fb.htm l)
Producers of US TV show Lost have confirmed the show will run until 2010.
A further 48 episodes, split into three shorter seasons, will follow the conclusion of the current third series and the show's final episode - Lost's 119th - will air in three years' time.
Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, who made setting an end date for the show a condition for staying, have signed new multi-year deals with ABC Television Studio to continue with the series until the end.
ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson said: "In considering the powerful storytelling of Lost, we felt this was the only way to give it a proper creative conclusion.
"I always said that we would allow the series to grow and give viewers the most compelling hour possible.
"And, due to the unique nature of the series, we knew it would require an end date to keep the integrity and strength of the show consistent throughout, and to give the audience the payoff they deserve."
Cuse also said that he hoped more shows would follow suit and declare an end date.

You really had to be paying attention to catch that there actually was something there. Buffy completely missed it. I had to rewind it to show her.
I completely missed it, I saw still from pics that someone emailed to me, I'll dig them up

Nice to see I'm not the only one obsessed with this show. Never wanted to see it; thought it sounded like some cheap-ass rip-off of Survivor (a show I find seriously annoying). Then a whole bunch of people kept telling me and Da Man that we needed to see it, so we skeptically rented the first disc of season one. And we were hooked. I think we saw all episodes of the first two seasons in less than a week. We would be up watching it until 3 am and then facing the alarm clock at 7 am. Dragon now has nicknamed me Charlie. I can't wait til Wednesday and then I am punching the pillow and creatively cussing as soon as it ends, facing the agony of another full week of waiting. I just hope to God the writers don't totally cheat and pull some lame ending out at the last minute that is inconsistent with the whole show. But hey, at least I will have my dreams of Sawyer. As Rachel Ray would say - YUM O!!!!!!!! :smooch:

Alrighty, people.... Two words. SEASON FINALE. Thoughts? Kind of a curveball there at the end, eh? Not that this should surprise any of us. That throws the ol' "Purgatory" theory right out of the water, doesn't it? So what is the explanation? I myself am gonna have to run with the whole "Bermuda Triangle - time travel" theory.
I myself am gonna have to run with the whole "Bermuda Triangle - time travel" theory.
I don't watch lost. But what if it was a huge methane cloud that messed everything up? Remember you said Bermuda Triangle. My theory of why things get lost in that area, I could be wrong but then again....

a huge methane cloud
Not knowing, I shall ask.... IS there a huge methane cloud at the Bermuda Triangle? Or just a large cow farm?
Not knowing, I shall ask.... IS there a huge methane cloud at the Bermuda Triangle? Or just a large cow farm?
There are large methane pockets under water and this could be why these mysterious things have happened. For example a ship could rapidly sink if it lost buoyancy from methane bubbles due to escaping methane pockets from underwater. I know an engine will not run if methane is ingested into the air/fuel mixture.
Check this link out: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/10/22/1066631498889.html?from=storyrhs
Massive gas bubbles rising from the sea floor may be capable of sinking ships and could explain the disappearance of a vessel in a North Sea "Bermuda Triangle", Melbourne researchers have concluded.
The massive gas bubbles had the potential to cause aircraft to crash, Mr May said yesterday. "In the Bermuda Triangle, methane gas is known to be present and the release of that gas could cause not only boats to sink, as shown in our study, but also aeroplanes to crash," he said. The gas could cause an explosion if it came in contact with the hot engine of a plane.
Oil-drilling platforms are aware of the dangers of ocean floor gas bubbles and have safety procedures to follow if they hit a methane pocket.
Hopefully this didn't put you to sleep, I thought it pretty interesting since mining recovery is being done on limited scales and oil companies are looking for safer ways of getting methane without it going into the atmosphere and harming the ecosystem.
Very informative but...I don't think the "methane theory" makes for good television.
Time travel looks like a possibility but, Oceanic gave Jack a "golden pass" to fly anywhere anytime, most likely because he survived a plane crash on their airline...so, that kind of kills the time travel.
My guess is that they have a whole new battle on their hands with whoever is on that boat that they made contact with and that they will actually have to team up with whoever is left of the "others", especially Ben....there ar 48 episodes left so there is plenty of time for a whole new plot line.
Cool, I don't have a clue about the show. So I guess this is a scifi flick of sorts?
Wasnt suppose to be...but, who knows where its going.
There is a theory of a strong magnetic field on the island that puuled the plane in, makes the women infertal, makes the men 3 times as fertal, cures cancers and other illnesses, keeps the natives from aging, etc, etc

Do yourself a favor. Unless you have UNLIMITED amounts of free time in the next two weeks, don't even get started. I had no interest in it whatever. My husband had me watch ONE episode. I think it was by the end of the week or maybe a week and a half that we had managed to catch up on the entire first two seasons. And that is while managing daily life and a job and four kids!!! We were up until 3:00 or 4:00 every morning. It is truly addictive.

LOST returns for Season 4 in February, 2008, and will then air 16 (sixteen) episodes straight through till May. Are they FRICKIN' KIDDING ME!?!? i was tortured enough thinking i would have to wait until december, as originally planned. it better be worth it!!!!
2. Why is LOST returning in February and not in September? Season 1 and 2 people complained like crazy about the reruns. So Season 3, they decided to placate those people and not run reruns, but instead to have a hiatus of 13 weeks. People complained incessantly about that, and "demanded" it be shown in a straight run, a la "24." So, S4, that's exactly what they are doing. If the audience won't tolerate reruns, and won't tolerate a hiatus, the only other choice is to take those weeks and add them to the wait between seasons, which means (since it's only 16 episodes) it doesn't start until Feb 2008.
3. Why only 16 episodes? When TPTB negotiated LOST's final ending date with the network this past winter, Damon & Carlton wanted only two more seasons. From the very beginning Damon & Carlton have said the show should run about 100-110 episodes to tell the story they wanted to tell. However, the network wanted LOST to air longer than two more seasons. Thus, during the negotiations a compromise was reached. Instead of running only two more seasons of 22 episodes each (44-46 more episodes total) LOST will run for three more seasons but each season will consist of only approximately 16 episodes (48 more episodes total). When all is said and done, LOST's story will have been told in approximately 110 episodes give or take, which is what Damon and Carlton wanted, but the network gets to spread it out over an additional year. Win-Win, shake hands, everybody walks away happy.

Warning: this is a rant.
So we're into another season and have had two episodes. I'm signing off and if I get the bug I might catch LOST on the internet. At this point I almost feel insulted by ABC.
- If you had Ben by the balls, wouldn't you pump him for information? Nobody seems to even care why he's concerned, what the history of the island it, or what some of those mysterious events were. I'm thinking about Jacob, the thing that could tear down trees, why darma was killed off, etc, etc, etc. Locke asked about the smoke, big deal.
- What motivated Kate to take the freakin' phone? There was no reason at all except to get it to that freighter chick (can't remember her name)
- Does anyone think that Ben's guy on the freighter could be anyone other than Micheal or Walt? I guess that's what passes for island mystery these days.
All in all, I'm feeling another cloverfield ending here and I refuse to play along anymore.

A latter day unknown Einstein, Tamki, is hunkered down in a glass and hydrogen/deuterium lab 40-miles beneath the island. He has a golden joystick hooked to a nuclear powered piece of wood and controls the space/time continuum, pushing the upper inhabitants and their enviroment closer to the speed of light and thereby slowing their age. Tamki was placed there by 'The Company' long before the upper bunkers were built and manned: long before the island rose from the sea. Tamki is close to 400-million years old. In Season 3, Episode 8, there was a leaf to the left of John which moved in a circular, counter-clockwise motion, giving the one clue to the present aging dilemma. Unless the Sun releases a reverse directional plasma tower within 17-hours after the second commercial break of the next episode, all of the island inhabitants' ages will remain as they are until the series ends.
I find it hard to believe none of you never noticed this clue. You folks must sleep during the show.

Barb, that is just what I intended. Just like the show. ;)
Sissy, "Lost" is the only TV show I would ever write for, everything is up for grabs. So, no matter how far fetched the plot is, it is accepted and pondered by the viewers. There could be a volcano in John's shorts and that would be OK. I might write that in for a future episode.
BTW, a new person comes in who has no relation to anything that has gone on before. This will keep the audience wondering what the hell is going on and why she disappears from time to time. You might think she is working with Tamki, or, the "others", but there is another entity at work. Is she really a "she"?
Sayid is the only one I would trust with survival. He's a "no bullshit" guy who knows how to handle things. Sure, he has his suspicions, as do all of them, and has made very few mistakes. But he's definitely not a dumbass and can calculate the odds and knows how to kill, quickly, when necessary. He knows when things aren't right. He's the one I would want on my side.
Dave, it's not Michael from New York, it's Michael York. They split the nouns to confuse the viewers. York stays in the background and releases strange interludes every now and then. He's too wrinkly for the camera so they keep him in post-production. I could tell you all how the series ends, but that wouldn't be sporting.
Keep in mind - Ben had tons of passports, they may have fabricated a story and said he was one of them
I think it will be Sun at least. She will die if she doesn't get off the island soon.
when my daughter kept telling me about lost, i thought," this is so unreal, there is no way people watch this shit"... but she made me watch the first two episodes, and i was hooked.
i usually watch REAL TV.... i don't like dramatizations, i want the whole thing... but LOST has me... i dunno why...

My kid thinks I'm nuts but I think Kate lied to Sawyer & really is/was pregnant.
you are nuts - but that is a possibility
never thought of that, but yea... that's a possibility... which would explain why jack doesn't want to see him. hmmm
I'm glad I don't understand anything on this page; I've only viewed the first and this last page of this thread. We did just start streaming this show (after quite a bit of referrals to watch) the other night and are about half way through the first season. I'm not convinced we're gong to continue but I also am beginning to think the writing does get quite a bit better. The first three episodes relied almost entirely on visual aspects. Therefore I think reading any more than what I have of this thread is not wise. I do take it that you all back up what we've been told and deem this worthy of continuing, correct?
Sean,
were you talking about American idol? I guess I'm lost:D

Of course it depends on your tastes but I've stopped watching this year. There have been several episodes that I will refer to as a big middle finger to the viewer. I've found that the writing has become predictable and boring.
But again, that's just me :bore:

Hmmmm, sadly that's been my opinion from episode one. We've gone through six or seven and the only good line so far was like in episode three, something along the lines of: "You've got the gun, there's one bullet left. Hell that'd be almost poetic."

I will not watch Star Search shows of any kind brother.

i have always liked the show, season in and season out. gops started out liking it a lot but has gotten bored with it now that it is going through more storylines on the Others. i just think it is both irritating and addictive that they always leave you hanging until next week, or four months from then.... i have stopped watching it - for my own sanity. i will wait until it all comes out on DVD and i can watch them back to back with no commercial breaks. so i guess i will need to avoid this thread so that ya'll won't blow it for me....
