It's that time again...this season we can actually start from the beginning...ya know, before any races have already been run

ESPN Fantasy Racing Frontpage (http://games.espn.go.com/stockcar/frontpage)

Group: (take a guess, Einstein) bressler.org
PW: bushwhacked

It's free, it's simple - you have 100 points to spend each week and you pick your five drivers based on their point value and see how you do. (once you pick your 5 you can leave it alone and it will keep your same drivers each week...for you lazy-asses out there)

The scoring for the season is a little different this year - it's divided into 2 parts, the regular season (26 races) and the chase (10 races). So basically it will all reset for the chase and you're screwed like last year because all the guys that got you there will be too high priced for you to keep in the chase. :nolike:

ALSO!
Please feel free to use this thread to discuss how bad Junior will continue to suck this year or how much Gordon sucks all the time...ya know, the usual
;)

Well I've been running my sim everyday or so and that keeps me centered!
Now about JG----I have a feeling they JG/JJ are going to be pretty fast. Of course we won't really know fully until the twins, and even that could be a sandbag job. I'm hoping those Fords will be fast but not overly fast. They have done some testing at Vegas and Cali, and Dodge will run the intreped or at least Penske South will. I'm ready to drop tha hamma:nuts:

And Dale Jr. He'll have to be better since Martin Truexis over there now.

I'll split half my Bressler Bucks (as of the end of the season) between Cooda and SO if JR wins more than 3 races and JG isn't in the top 5.

Your are correct sir. Jr still sucks and Gordon will be in the top 5. (I don't necessarily like Gordon, but I don't dislike him either. He is a decent driver imo though.)

A few of my guys did pretty good.
I was bummed by the jokers that got into Bobby - he had a great car and could have finished in the top 10.
Ken Scrader rocked as did Elliot!
I don't know how to post them, so whoever has the time on a busy Monday...

How many of you think that the 48 car should have been disqualified? I'm not sure what to think, but it's irritating that they could win when there was obvious cheating.

How many of you think that the 48 car should have been disqualified?
Good question, but when you work for HMS you can bet that having officials in your hip pocket is key to winning. What I'm saying is history has shown that running shine wasn't a honest job, and I fully expect every team to push the limits of the rules to their advantage. But the 48 team has been called down a lot in the last 2 years over rules. If NASCAR DQ'ed the whole team it not only would excite the sponsor(s) but also the owner(s) and tell others in the garage not to muck about so close to that fine line. The real point should have been why wasn't the 20 team jammed up over the agressive driving even after the 20 made such a stink over the so-called slam drafting and possible loss of life if it continued??? I'm hoping to see a good run at California this weekend.

Dave

I love how Stewart was preaching in interviews how "someone was gonna die out there" and then he pretty much commits attempted murder on Kenseth by forcing him into the infield......when Kenseth swung around and skidded backwards onto the track...I dont know how he threaded himself thru the oncoming cars...that would have benn one hell of a head on collision.

Sideout
02-24-06, 10:10 AM
I dunno - something just wasn't right about that Stewart-Kenseth get-together...I think there's more too it than just Tony getting mad, his car moved over a full three lanes worth and it just looked weird. I'm not saying he wasn't doing a little payback driving out there, but if you want to wreck a guy, you can do it without sliding your car around that much...Kyle Busch does it all the time

Ojive
02-24-06, 10:10 AM
I'm all for racing in any form, but if you review past champions in the 500 they always have some juice at the beginning of the season. But being past champ does have some responsibility too and being a good driver is important, that driver doesn't own that car, the sponsor does because of the funding they give. the 20 is a good driver and has a lot of talent, but he needs to remember about his anger and think ahead and keep his trap shut so when he does a move like we saw several times last weekend he can give the dumb airman look after the race during the interview----dumb airman is this:shrug: and then walk away:laugh:

Ojive

Dave
02-24-06, 10:21 AM
don't get me wrong...that crap makes it exciting but lets not get to bad and create soap operas or Nascar will be compared to the WWE

...the thing is, he whined on tv saying someone was gonna die and then he jets out 5 car lengths like SO said to get Kenseth.....

Ojive
02-24-06, 10:33 AM
Dave,
You are right, see even a champ knows his boundry. Look at Dale Earnhart a thick headed cat but he would mess with someone in the right places later on in his career. Tony has no excuses here, he ain't having to race into each race everyweek. Acting like Robby Gordon ain't cool in his position. I can fence sit on a number of subjects, but if he's gonna open his fat trap then he'd damn well better play the part. You know it's a racing thang.....meh:Z:

Could not agree more on both points. Actually, you name a team that does not try to push the limit to get the best response from their car. Further, NASCAR made sure that the car was with legal perimeters. The only reason they went after the crew chief is because of his aggressive nature and willingness to push the limits.

I hate to say it, well no I don't, but I want a crew chief who is willing to try anything give me the best chance of winning. Do I want him to break the rules? No, but I do want him to push it, if it gives me a better chance to win.

On the Stewart matter, I just have no respect for a man who can not walk the talk!!!

Spotter
02-24-06, 05:27 PM
Chad Knaus wasn't "pushing the limits." It was as blatant an attempt at cheating as you could find. NASCAR told him (and the Hendrick team) not to even think about the appeal. They were just lucky to even get the car back.

Ojive
02-27-06, 05:29 AM
One thing I have a hard time understanding is why would a owner want his team to be put in the spot light over rules violations when they really don't need to violate anything due to the great resources they have? I mean back in the day when Harry Hyde used to pull things out of his hat for Tim Richmond, it was truly making a situation a little better. If you ever read about Junior Johnson you'll get a clear understanding of a driver and team owner, but that was many years ago and things are a lot different nowdays.

Yeah but Jimmie's new chief should be called Junior Because he's learned those HMS moves quiet well. I like JJ all right but lately if he ain't wrecking somebody, then he's being a titty baby like his owner JG is and it really takes the fun out of things! I mean when Johnson was in ASA he wasn't all that I saw him wreck and tear shit up plenty of times back in the day.

I think it's pretty cool - I think it would be even cooler if they took out all the parts with Jr. being a dork in between footage rolls, but I guess you can't have everything. I was a big fan of the King when I was just a little dude, so it's neat to see some race video since we pretty much listened to it on the radio then

S/O I used to work nights some years ago and in the morning at 10 am on speed they used to have races like back in the day with out Junior being a dork, but it was pretty much like that. And like you said considering if the races were on the radio then you'd hear it that way. But seeing those real stock cars with locked doors and a pretty hot motor was cool. If you read check out Brave in Life the story of Junior Johnson. The inside cover shows Junior coming out the back window of his car while it's flipping. Junior was a big corn fed feller. Yeah I'd have to say I'd like the see NASCAR back in the day with some of the technology we have now. Seeing Harry Hyde and the likes of other crew chiefs cheating would be wild.

Dave

Jr and Stewart aren't bad at it either

How many of you are so sick of the Waltrips...man, every damn commercial while the race is on has on of them or both of them in it.....Michael always finishes 30th or worse so I guess he needs to make his money elsewhere

Ojive
03-29-06, 08:13 AM
Dave good point here, well kinda IMO. I like DW for his abilities, but he was a 3 time champ (AKA Jaws) He learned to play things in his favor and that is what made him a legend, Mikey is a cool cat it would be better if he'd be up front more and put his money where is mouth is. I do get tired of the whole Larry mac, Hammond, DW drill. Each of them collectively have the skills and are good at what they once did, but sometimes it is TMI, I live racing and I learn from them and I use something’s they mention on my Sim like shock configurations and tire pressures. Sometimes it works and other times it just sucks. I like Benny Parsons and his brother Phil, Wally Dallenback is ok. But on this rant what I really dislike is diversity to the sport in the media with a skirt that has no clue of the sport. Give me a lady who knows about it and I'm good to go.
BTW I listen to the races most of the time because I can get a lot done and I can catch the highlights on speed in one hour.
Yeah ya:thumbsup:

From the slightly-less-than-serious power rankings on nascar.com...

"A lot of you guys have already e-mailed and ridiculed Jeff Gordon for keeping his helmet and HANS device on when he shoved Kenseth. That is because that wasn't Jeff Gordon who shoved Kenseth. It was a stunt double. Gordon was already back in the motorcoach sipping a latte."

Speaking of Jimmy Johnson he totalled his car yesterday at LMS during tiring testing, seems he blew a right rear tire and hit the wall. It is said the speeds will go up dramically because Bobby Labonte was not far off the track record set last year by Elliot Sadler in qualifying.

I'm glad somebody got to watch it.

I was enjoying it in HD and right at the last 10 laps my wife walks right in front of the TV and starts chatting about our taxes. And guys...you know you can't look at the tv or you're dead. You better make eye contact the whole time. So all I could hear was the race announcers and my wife blocking a 50" TV going blah..blah..blah.."sure honey" blah..blah blah..."ok"...blah blah blah "that sounds great"..blah..blah ...blah. :nolike:

That really sucked that Biffle got taken out like that - his car was flyin' - he was putting people a lap down after only 20-something laps. I still think that Johnson has things fixed, or he's just the luckiest idiot I've ever seen - After watching guys like Martin fight all day at martinsville to get back just one lap, I swear Johnson could be 8 laps down and he'd somehow get the lucky dog eight times and end up there at the end
Good to see Kenseth come from the back to the front, but I still think Biffle had the car to beat until it got "adjusted" :nolike:

It should also be mentioned that my lovely and talented wife took the top spot this week ;)

So MM calls on his Nextel hey Fanando ready? and this cat comes flipping acros the way and goes behind MM car. And Mark comes out all the sudden. Carl mumbles under his breath old man! Pretty good one. And about Jimmy boy, Hey rick writes the checks to the officials what are ya gonna do? I was glad to see Kasey win yesterday, I will say that if Mayfield don't figure something out soon he'll be looking for a ride in the Truck series. And Scott Riggs did well considering Matt took a bite out of his bumper.

Yes I picked Jeffy too thinking he'd fair well----->not! And yeah I saw the lil cat fight of words. Like they can really change anything! The Busch boys need to be back when Dale Senior was in his prime. Then those too could see what it was really like to trade paint. These days drivers are told don't be tearing shit up. I mean we are talking about a millon dollar asset so a driver should be somewhat smart. I mean besides Kurt winning the cup I don't see Jeff Gordon, DJ,Kenseth,Smoke or Bobby do that stuff very often to other drivers. We know it's going to happen but every week----BS but it makes for great whine material and looks good on TV:thumbsup: I'd like to see Kurt drive on those figure 8 races with a school bus I know he'd like that!

I have gotten that I run the guys whom I think will do well so I echo the Biffle drill, I mean drivers who have been fairly competitive this year really stink.
Reno must have picked the 5 drivers that fell out during the race because so far he's da man to beat or catch this season. Speaking of Biffle I'd like to go on a dune buggy ride with him I bet that would be one heck of a experience.

The last truck reace I got to see there was from the pit lane. I was actually in David Starr's pit for most of the race. Listening to the scanner, standing at the back of the pit, it was very exciting. Especially when he hit the wall and had to come in several times to fix the truck. Lots of action and I felt like I was involved!

So how was the mood of the crew after the accident with the wall? I mean he most likely wasn't fighting for the win?

Spotter
06-08-06, 07:14 PM
The crew was fairly well silent, except for communications about repairing the truck.

The crew chief was doing triple duty. He had to examine the damage, and decide what to do. He also had to listen to the spotter, so to get the truck back out after repairs, trying to keep from going a lap down. And he had to baby sit his irate driver, trying to keep his head cool and keep him focused.

The driver just wanted to argue about who was to blame and yell at everyone for working too slow.

After the wreck, there was no way they were gonna stay near the top of the leader board.

It was still a fun weekend  Just a really odd finishing order - not the way things would have been if it had gone the whole way. Best part was listening to Carl Edwards debate that last pitstop - the crew knew the rain was coming, just not when...and I still don't know if they could have stayed out and outrun Kahne on old tires...
Kind of a bummer for guys like Mark and Bobby who were making their way toward the top 10, then got stuck way back after the pitstop - what can you do

I rather liked the finishing order. I had 1st, 3rd,4th,6th and 40th!

I'm actually leaning more to Kenseth, I'd like to see Mark finally get the illusive one. But I think Denny Hamlin could run well. Jimmy not sure yet on him he's been slacking lately. And I'd like to see Jeff Burton and Happy do well. But I really want to see the Blue oval with the cup

In that situation, Vickers did nothing wrong. You have to keep the steering wheel straight forward and you have to keep the gas flat to the floor. He did both.

Yup - he was trying to follow his teammate, but johnson made a move that was so far from smooth that there just wasn't a way for him to stay in the draft.

but man don't say that to the whining bud crowd

Right before Johnson made the move I wouldn't have been surprised if he (and Kahne) just stayed in line and finished in the top 5 for some decent cup points...Vickers and Busch would have been more likely to make a move...but God knows Johnson can't settle for 2nd place.

Those plate races are nuts...Kahne moved up from 15th to 1st in a few laps by taking the inside and drafting off Stewart.

I watched wind tunnel sunday night and Mark said he wanted to run a Ford but Roush didn't deliver. So with the schedule and it being full time it fit Mark's schedule and also for competition sake. It will be interesting if he'll even have any success with a new crew? You know yet to be seen.
About the chase NASCAR needs to loose several of those 1.5 mile tracks that hold similiarity. and add a road course, and maybe even a dirt track race. Tha would be really awesome. (I know the dirt track is a pipe dream)

Brian wasn't in the chase and was leaving the team butr a win is a win anyone who ever watched the late Dale Earnhart could see that. I guess the fine line between being in the chase and having a win. You know my experience watching Vickers has been he's a stand up kid unlike his junior team mate.....I think looking at the footage that the 48 was out of shape when he pulled out and it was just the deal. Last lap shootout, and even though the 8 wasn't happy with the finish he clearly said that Vickers wasn't always wrecking everyone.....Hint-Hint #48 so basically it sucks to be Brian Vickers right now.

Johnson's anger toward his teammate and friend had not subsided Tuesday, two days after Vickers wrecked Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the final lap at Talladega Superspeedway.

Johnson spent the bulk of his weekly conference call avoiding even mentioning Vickers' name, finally unloading on his teammate about 20 minutes in when asked if the two had spoken.

"I got a message from him, but that was about it," Johnson said. "I don't have much to say or much to talk to him about."

Asked if their relationship had changed, Johnson said he wasn't sure because it had only been two days since the incident. But it didn't sound as if Johnson has any plans to forgive Vickers any time soon.

"I have a hard time feeling he was really sorry for what he's done," Johnson said. "At the same time I know it wasn't intentional so I just kind of go on, (but) if I look at the interviews and the quotes and the message that Brian left me, I wouldn't take it as an apology by any stretch of the imagination. That's where I am at."

Earnhardt was leading on the final lap of Sunday's race at Talladega, with the two Hendrick Motorsports drivers running second and third. Johnson attempted to pass Earnhardt heading into the third turn and Vickers followed to help push him into the lead.

But Vickers hooked the back of Johnson instead of pushing him, and the contact sent Johnson spinning into Earnhardt. Vickers darted by both of them for his first Nextel Cup victory.

The outcome hurt both Johnson and Earnhardt in the Chase for the championship standings. Vickers, who is not eligible for the Nextel Cup title, is leaving Hendrick at the end of the season to drive for Toyota next year.

His impending departure has gotten him locked out of Hendrick team meetings, and racing incidents with teammate Jeff Gordon in New Hampshire last month and now Johnson has caused friction between the once close-knit group.

But Vickers said he believes he and Johnson can get past Talladega.

"Do I think Jimmie is upset? Yes, of course he is. Do I think we can fix that? Absolutely," he said after the race. "Jimmie is a great person, he is a very mature man and I am sure when the time is right, we will have our opportunity to work things out."

Sunday's outcome also has been awkward for car owner Rick Hendrick, Johnson said.

Hendrick is like a second father to Vickers, who was very close to Ricky Hendrick - Rick's son - before his death in a 2004 plane crash. And Vickers' win was done in the No. 25 Chevrolet, which was owned by Rick Hendrick's late father, Papa Joe, and run by Ricky.

Hendrick had an emotional discussion with Vickers in Victory Lane, then left the track without talking to reporters.

"Rick's view is that he's the highest of highs and the lowest of lows," Johnson said. "His father's team got back to Victory Lane, but at the expense of one of his other cars taking a hit in the points. I think it's tough for him. He's happy, he's bummed.

"It's the same way that I am and my team is. But at the end of the day, I'm happy for the No. 25 team. They've been working very hard to get where they are, and they've been close to winning. So I am happy for those guys. But I'm disappointed that I lost all those points that I did. And I think that's just kind of the overall feeling that everybody has."

ya know...I'm not usually one to go with the conspiracy theory....but, that caution with gordon only involved him and one other car and they both got off the track under their own power...and it was a full 3 LAPS longer than any other caution that day, even the multi-car accidents later in the race. So he pits 5 times without losing a lap and gets his car all fixed up...give me a break :nolike:

That deal with jr. reminded me of that Kyle Busch incident where he got back 5 laps on lucky dogs and finished in the top 10 ahead of a lot of cars that never fell off the lead lap...that is total crap.

You've got that right, I guess when I was out last summer and running around the track it was real cool to have been able to experience it. I'm hoping next year I can spread out for another truck venue. I just find having to sit or stand during a cup race and not to mention the cost for the race isn't worth it. I am rethinking my weekend plans. Since I have to be in Dallas Sunday night, I am thinking about driving to Ft. Worth and trying to time it to where I arrive right at green flag time. Or maybe ten or 15 minutes after the start of the race. Then I can snake a cheap scalper seat and watch it. Or wait till they open the gate 1/2 way thru the race and walk right in for free. since my gas and room are paid for already
How'd it go?

Since I had already attended two concerts over the weekend, I crapped out and stayed homer and watched it on TV and drove to Dallas after the race. I got a call around noon telling me I had a freebie in one of the upper row PSL seats, but I had already decided to stay home. No regrets. It is only the 2nd cup race I have missed out of the 12 they have run.

And I really stunk it up in the NASCAR Pick 'Em. I dropped Bowyer for Sadler and that hurt. Plus Kahne blowing up hurt, too.

Last race of the year. Coming down to the wire. Good luck to everyone. And wish me luck, too!

And if anyone is up and surfing tomorrow morning at 10 AM central time, you can hear me doing a guest spot on a local racing talk radio show. Just go to www.sportsradio1300.com and listen online to The Motorsports Zone. It's only a 1 hour show and the host has been asking me to come in all year. So I finally gave in. :p It's pretty fun. I've done it a couple of times before. I am no expert, but I am fairly knowledgeable. So, listen in and hear me make a fool of myself live!

Actually it is amazing that spinning those R's these motors don't go high order! Serious technology and reliability. I haven't been around F-1 cars but I have had a little time around Cart cars and they are equally impressive. Boost and fuel control from the cockpit. I try to imagine what if NASCAR ever allowed a no holes barred race that allowed computers in the engine and traction control and fuel control from inside what would the out come be? And I will add that cart has gone about as far as they can go with the existing technology. So whats next?

Johnson breaks wrist after falling from cart

http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/6257616?FSO1&ATT=HCP&GT1=8901

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson broke his left wrist when he fell out of a golf cart during a celebrity tournament, his team said Sunday.

The injury occurred Friday at a tournament in Lecanto, Fla., and will prevent him from driving for at least four weeks. The injury was to his non-shifting hand, and he should be able to participate in preseason testing at Daytona International Speedway next month.

"I was in a golf cart and the driver took a sharp turn," Johnson said in a statement. "I wasn't holding on tight enough, landed awkwardly on the ground and heard a little pop. It was a fluke deal, but fortunately we're in the offseason and I don't plan to miss any additional time."

Go rent yourself Nascar IMAX and fire it up on a big screen and surround system...and enjoy. Better yet, go see it in an IMAX 3D when it comes around again.

Bobby Hamilton paid his early bills driving a wrecker, got his NASCAR break driving a car used in "Days of Thunder" and won the 2004 Craftsman Truck championship in his own truck.
Following his death Sunday of cancer at the age of 49, Hamilton was remembered for his love of the sport, kindness and blue-collar persona.
Nextel Cup driver Sterling Marlin, a fellow Tennessee native, said Sunday night that a lot of people didn't get to know Hamilton well, but that the driver who started with nothing and never had the best equipment would be missed.
"He would give you the shirt off his back, and he helped me out a lot through the years," Marlin said.
Born in Nashville in 1957, Hamilton got his start on local tracks and qualified fifth in his first Cup race at Phoenix in 1989 with a car used in the movie "Days of Thunder." He drove in all of NASCAR's top three divisions, making 371 Cup starts and winning four races in what is now the Nextel Cup series, including the 2001 Talladega 500.
The death was shocking to people who had not seen him recently. His racing team announced only last month that Ken Schrader would drive its truck this season.
"NASCAR is saddened by the passing of Bobby Hamilton," said Jim Hunter, NASCAR's vice president of communications. "Bobby was a great competitor, dedicated team owner and friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the Hamilton family."
Hamilton won 10 times in the truck series, including four victories in 2004 when he became the first owner-driver to win a NASCAR series title since the late Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup championship in 1992.
"I think at the end of the Cup deal, he was burnt out on the system. But he always had a good vision," Marlin said. "He always wanted to do things his own way, so he became his own boss, got into trucks, and it worked out well for him."
Hamilton was diagnosed in February with head and neck cancer. A malignant growth was found when swelling from dental surgery did not go down.
He raced in the first three truck races of the season, with a best finish of 14th at Atlanta Motor Speedway, before turning over the wheel to his son, Bobby Hamilton Jr. The senior Hamilton then started chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
Liz Allison, widow of former NASCAR star Davey Allison, co-hosted a local radio show with Hamilton that started in January 2006.

NASCAR isn’t commenting beyond spokesman Jim Hunter’s statement Thursday that the Chase for the Nextel Cup will include more than 10 drivers this year.
But Speedway Motorsports Inc. president Bruton Smith hinted Friday the new number could be 12.
“I think you can look for 12, but that’s just my opinion,” Smith said on Sirius Satellite Radio’s new NASCAR channel.
Smith also said he believes the winner of each race will get an additional 10 points in the changes expected to be announced later this month.

I reckon if Bruton said it or hinted at it then it very well might happen. Hopefully the extra 10 points will be during the regular season but that is truly yet to be seen.
