I just got off the phone with a friend of mine. She found a 7 foot snake skin under her stove. Her house is by a small creek and built on a slab. Poisonous snakes are rare in this area, but it's still unsettling to think that even a harmless one could still be in her house. Especially one that big. Or there could be more. Or her daughter will find out.:scary:

I've looked up some information online and she's calling an exterminator in the morning. In the meantime, I told her to take a shot of Nyquil and I'd ask you all for suggestions.

Are you sure it wasn't a 7 inch snake? One of those rubber play snakes?

Tell her it's cold there and he just wants warmth. He'll stay put.

no, it wasn't a 7 inch rubber "play snake".. she and I both know what to do with those :p

Spotter, someone already told her that snakes hibernate underground on their nests during the winter and that calmed her down.. I'm not about to tell her otherwise, true or not.

A snake that is outdoors at this time of year will hibernate, not sure about one that is indoors where it won't get cold. Since there is no way to tell the age of the skin, I would be worried that the thing is over 15 feet long by now.

On the plus side, the snake will keep the mice problem minimal. :D Lots of people in the boonies don't mind a snake at all in the basement, until it gets into the breaker box and gets fried.

tell her she does not have to worry about mice now.....

tell her she does not have to worry about mice now.....And if she's lucky she won't have to worry about her kids soon.

It sounds like it's probably a black snake. They're harmless and eat rats and stuff. I've seen that long living around creeks. The exterminator should just take it out in the woods and let it go.

i have tons of snake stories... but this one time about 5 years ago...i was coming down the stairs and turned the corner and saw what i thought was a belt laying on the floor... when i got to the end of the hall, i realized that belt wasn't there when i went up... so i flipped the light on and saw that it was a snake... started screaming, hubby ran downstairs, so then the snake was between us... i had to go outside and get a shovel, and throw the shovel to him... he held the snake down with the shovel and grabbed it behind it's head and then took it outside to kill it... (HUGE mistake... his hand and arm stunk for days)..it was a chicken snake..
narrowing it down, we found a hole behind the dishwasher ... and i didn't go to bed until that hole was plugged THAT night..

the only good snake is a DEAD snake.

 @everyone.. thanks.. I think I'll have to keep your suggestions to myself, though. We've lulled her into a false sense of security by telling her the snake wouldn't stay in her house and nobody is about to tell her otherwise. She's getting all the holes plugged up (probably seal the snake inside, huh?). Someone told her she didn't get any mice this fall because the snake skin was in her house and she bought that, too. I think she's shopping for an owl statue... or a few, for inside and out. Someone told her that would keep them away. She's got a Catch 22 situation. If she calls pest control, her daughter will freak and never live in the house again. If she doesn't, she's possibly living with a snake... I feel for her.
