For Love of the Game

Third time is a strike for Kevin Costner. A slow moving baseball game overshadows a somewhat moving but disjointed relationship. I heard this movie described as a chic flick for guys but I am certain, being a sports fan myself, that ALL of the dramatic pauses really drag out any excitement the game could lend to this movie. Costner's catcher is the highlight of the flick. A doting mother and otherwise mediocre player, he is a good sidekick to the serious pitcher. At most, I would recommend a matinee for this one - 2 stars.
