The Sixth Sense

Reviewing this movie in-depth must be agonizing for any professional critic. When you see it you'll understand why. Bruce Willis plays Malcolm Crowe, a successful child psychologist whose career, and marriage, are put on the skids after he is shot by one of his few failures. Haley Joel Osment plays Cole Sear, a young boy who has the same problems as Crowe's assailant, he believes that he sees and hears dead people. Crowe believes that curing the boy will serve as redemption, putting his life back on the right track. The acting is tremendous by Willis and Osment. The story is intriguing and suspenseful, but things move pretty slowly. Even so, I guarantee that you will have something to talk about on the way out of the theatre. I give this an extra 1/2 star just because someone had the courage to cast Willis in this type of role.

Score: 8/10

I went to see "The Sixth Sense" last night and thought it was very good. You mention the great acting, but don't forget the great directing. I would watch out for this guy's next film, but I can't pronounce his name. Everything that happens makes sense and can be figured out by the attentive viewer. The only problem I found is the scene at the school: when Cole yells at his teacher. How did the boy know what he knew about his teacher's childhood? He can see ghosts, not read minds.

Cole said he could hear ghosts and they were telling him "to do things".

Late in the movie (at the the play), the same teacher tells Cole that when he was a student there was a terrible fire at the school and one or more students died. One of these dead students was "talking" to Cole.
