A new addition to an old topic and new on video this week: "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels".

Perhaps you've heard it was a British version of a Tarantino film and decided you've had enough with the cloning and would rent "Reservoir Dogs" again. Pity. The film certainly fits the Tarantino mold: clever camerawork, smart script, snappy dialogue, strong acting (I didn't recognize any of these Brits, but I expect I'll see them again). These things are considered Tarantino-esque when they are attributes that have been around for decades in good crime films (rent "The Maltese Falcon"). Tarantino knew and used that, until he made "Jackie Brown".

Guy Ritchie does it in "Lock, Stock..." also. In addition: The cinematography is interesting - everything is filmed with a brownish hue. He also employs slow-motion, stop-motion, and split screen to good effect and not just because he has them in his arsenal. The film fits well on the small screen. Rent it and let me know what you think.
