Folks, I urge you to visit the following website:
http://www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/ and look up the June 1 edition. scroll down to the 9th question.
The (Deleted by poster) writing this column concludes his answer by saying, and I am quoting directly here "That's just what TV needs: another slut in uniform."
If you are as outraged as I am, please call 1-918-488-4000 and ask to speak with Peggy Watkins. Tell this woman that you dont appreciate our women in uniform being slammed like this.
Am I pissed? Ya damn Skippy! If I had a chance, I think I would chicken choke this elitest (Deleted by Poster)!
:fbomb: Ausiello !!!
Not a bad thing I was # 2 to call, I didn't slam this lady because she said this idiot who made such comments is in NYC, so I just said that was really uncool and that as a women you should be offended. I said if I heard this idiot say that about my gender I'd choke the piss out of him and I spent 13 years wearing the uniform and I didn't think it appropriate at all to slander our troops in uniform, So give it a go maybe you'll be transfered to another person more qualified to receive an earful, but this lady I didn't feel the need to chew her ass. Just FYI Thanks for posting this, nice to see some other folk do care about what others are saying

Thanks! I called back and was transferred to VX mail. GO figure. Thing is, with my mediocre internet skills, I was not able to find an N.Y contact number. What we need to do, is keep up the pressure. Demand a public (In Writing) apology from this turd-WOG sandwich.
Michael Ausiello needs to be, publically :whip: !

I spoke with Ms. Watkins. She is offended as I am. She assures me that she is trying to reach suitable management team members. However, the only way WE as a group can make our outrage known is to keep calling her and let her know, In polite terms, that we want GemstarTVGuide corporate management to correct the situation and demand that Ausiello make a written apology!
Shipmates, We need to demand a written apology. I am close to finding a New York number and when I do, let us fill their phone banks with our displeasure!
Wrong is wrong. Back in the day, we swore to correct all that was wrong.
For your support I :worthy: before you!

I understand you being upset Billntwrk if someone is calling girls in uniform sluts; however, I'm not convinced the writer meant it the way you're taking it.
The way I read it the columnist is quoting Bellasario as saying he wants to make a sexually open character and the columnist is criticizing Bellasario. If that is the case, I would agree with the columnist wholeheartedly that our women in uniform shouldn't be portrayed as sluts.
I'm not much of a TV Guide reader, so this is my only point of reference. If this person is into slamming our military and you can show me, I'll be more than glad to make a phone call. I'm just not sure in this case that's how it was meant.
I agree with Gops... they were saying that we DON'T need another woman portraying a "slut" in a uniform. JMHO.
To be honest, when I read it I was clueless as to what he was referring to. Was he saying there are too many sluts in uniform on TV... in military service... in his life? And if he really is upset that there are too many women in uniform portrayed as sluts he should have said that a lot more clearer than his attempt at a whitty one-liner. If you just read our posts you can see that some of us are pissed, some are confused and others are trying to interpret the writer's intentions for him. He could have used a lot more gray matter when throwing around a loaded statement like that. Instead of calling the number, I e-mailed Ausiello asking him to expand on the statement. His words, his responsiblity to explain himself.

Hello all,
I am posting as an official representative of TV Guide.
TVGuide.com has been alerted to the recent concern with regards to Michael Ausiello’s comment in his story about the replacement of an actress on the network television drama NCIS.
It is unfortunate that Ausiello’s comment was misunderstood. His intention was to poke fun at the way television sexualizes characters to make them more appealing.
Mr. Ausiello says: “In no way was my comment meant to be derogatory against women or female military officers. I was responding, in a tongue-in-cheek way, to the tendency of TV producers to use sexuality as a default to make female characters interesting.”
Sincerely,
Shira Berk

Thanks for the clarification Shira. It's much appreciated. :)

Maam,
With all due respect, if what you say is true, than have Mr. Ausiello make these same statements in his next column. He needs make his apology and statements in his next column so that those who read the Q and A can read his apology.
And just so you know, Folks on this board will tell you (those that know me personally) that I am not letting this go. As such, I am in the process of Gathering Regional and National support from prominent, politically connected, Veterans organizations. Furthermore, Sam Rubin of WGN-Chicago/KTLA Los Angeles is watching with interest. His attitude is, "...lets see if the story grows legs "If it does, Tribune Broadcasting would certainly be interested in covering..."
I myself will be mounting an email campaign demanding an apology if one it not forthcoming in a timely manner.
I suggest the following for you and your corporate staffers. In this context, remove all references to N.C.I.S. and substitute "The Apprentice", Next instead of "Sluts in Uniform" substitute the Phrase "Sluts in the Boardroom". Give that some thought if see if you think it is so funny or "tongue in cheek"
Respectfully,

Just so everyone knows what I am talking about, I am enclosing a "Clip & Paste" of the Oroginal Question and answer as it appears now.
Question: Who will take Kate's place on NCIS? — Darlene
Ausiello: Bellisario is currently holding auditions for her successor and hopes to have the role cast by mid-July. "I am looking to globalize the show, so I am going to cast someone who is non-American — maybe an Australian," he reveals. "I want to bring somebody in who is different from Kate, a girl who is more sexually open. Kate was uptight. I think [the new girl] will give Tony a run for his money." That's just what TV needs: another slut in uniform.

Much as I would like to highlight the offending statement, I post this as it currently appearing/running. No edits, no high lights. Taken in context, I invite you to reach your own conclusions.

Greetings, Friends of Veterans and Midway. I recently recieved an email form the good folks at GEMSTAR-TV Guide and I will take them at their word. The short version is that we need to see what appears this coming wednesday, June 8th. An explanation and or apology is promised. I am inclined to give TV Guide the benefit of the doubt.
I gotta tell you all that eagle3 counseled restraint. I respect Buzz's opinion so I did restrain myself. I put off a chance to be interviewed by a major news organization so that "Cooler Heads" could prevail. It appears, cooler heads are going to prevail. As a veteran, I am only to happy to let TV Guide correct the error of their employees. This was never about me, it IS about our fine Women in Uniform.

Seems to me that if ole boy would have kept his comments cleaner and poked directly at the producers at the possible blunder and made no mention of gender or uniform we all would have just thought, or at least me anyway, those idiots in Hollywood! Look at the manhours wasted over a comment, I wonder if that would be filed under lessons learned? :lookathim

Well Folks, here it is. AS I said earlier, I am inclined to consider the matter closed. Make your own decision. Here is is in it's entirety:
Question: Dude! That "slut in uniform" crack (Ask Ausiello 6/1) was just plain rude — even by your standards. You have just demeaned over a half million women serving this great country. More to the point, you angered one million-plus brothers in uniform. Low blow. — Bill P
Ausiello: Hmmm... My brother David is a lieutenant in the Navy and he laughed. (Of course, he's also a fan of Still Standing, so his bar is set pretty low.) In any event, in no way was my comment meant to be derogatory against women or female military officers, Bill. I'm sorry if it came across that way. I was responding, in a tongue-in-cheek way, to the tendency of TV producers to use sexuality as a default to make female characters interesting — in this case, Sasha Alexander's successor on NCIS. Now, in closing, I'd just like to say: "Go Navy, beat Army!" (That's for you, Dave.)
I was responding, in a tongue-in-cheek way
:nono:
PUH-LEASE!!!! Do we all have to be so sensitive,as to think, that every little slip of the word or turn of a phrase, is an insult to others???? I try to be a P.C. kinda guy. But, I can still laugh at a good joke or a mis-worded phrase.
I still have a good laugh at a good political, sexual, and yes...a good racial joke....every now and then. I am not a racist, sexist or politician. Good God, lighten up people!!!! Have we all become so politically correct that we can't laugh at ourselves???
:smokin: :Boobies:
P.S. I still love a good religious joke. (no matter what denomination it is.)

PRoblem is not any of the things you just said. It was painting an Outstanding group of Americans with a very harsh and unforgiving brush.

I'm not trying to sound like an ass here, but....He was talking about a television show.
And, we all have to admit, Sex sells. They make every woman/man look the very best that they can and then throw in a side-line of her/his sexuality. Unfortunately, the women are made to be the most slutty. I have been watching T.V. for years and it's always the same. Guy meets girl.... guy falls for girl... guy and girl have a sexual tension... guy and girl get together in the end. It doesn't matter whether girl and guy both have significant others... it is always the same. And, they (T.V. execs) always make the girl out to be the bad guy in the relationship. Unless, of course, you watch Lifetime TV. Which is the exact opposite.
I guess, the only thing that I am getting at here is..... Discovery, TLC and History channels rule my existence..... I will now bow out :worthy:
